Thankfully in Aus the mandatory voting at least adds a buffer from the Krispy styled nutters and we are saved from Hanson/Palmer types as legit PM threats

But Dutton seems to be trying to tap into that voting group further than Abbott and Morrison ever did

It’s not about that at all.

It’s taking away freedom of speech.

It’s taking away the responsibility away from parents doing their fücking job and being the responsible parent to their kids.

It’s up to parents to decide what’s good for their kids, not the government.

Democrats are more sensible than the likes of the Greens here. They realise to have the money to fund all the social programs, you need to first generate that money, so don't overly regulate / tax those generating the money, to the point they'll go elsewhere.

Yes he does Elon bought Twitter because in his words he aimed to make Twitter a "platform for free speech around the globe", hailing free speech as a "societal imperative for a functioning democracy" and insisting that he had not made the offer to increase his wealth.

Again Freedom of speech is a key and fundamental right to a healthy and normal society.

Twitter is has become the most downloaded News App in over 140 countries worldwide.

Yet people will hate Elon for Twitter and his support of Trump and for the “misinformation that he allows on his platform” but the same people with still buy his Tesla products.

Churchill was right on Democracy "Democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried"

Democracy works best when the electorate is informed. That's never been further from case than now. Lies, misinformation and echo chambers (the latter across all sides of politics), makes for 'It's the vibe' elections across the West. I doubt many voting on either side in the US elections seriously looked at the economic policies (and others) of either side, to use that as to see 'who'd be best' going forward. The loss of trust in experts is perhaps the most disturbing trend of the last two decades. Scientists, economists (though questionable at times to call them experts), Doctors all are now distrusted by a large percentage of people who 'do their own research'.

Distrust is formed from these industries (to a degree) being influenced by the money involved.

These industries are businesses above all else. And with that is a determination to ensure that the investors are getting maximal returns.

Absolutely. Democracy works well with an educated and informed population.

We're a long way from that. How do you fix it? Better access and improved higher education. Better parenting? How do you do that when most people don't want to have kids, and the people that do often pump out 5 or 6 of them without being properly prepared, repeating the cycle. How do you stop the spread of misinformation? Any attempt is met with: "but muh free speech!". Anyone with a basic degree of critical thinking and intelligence should be able to see through the BS.

Everything's pretty farked, but what can you do but ignore the bad shit and focus on the good and try to enjoy life.

This is how politics is these days for nuffies. The extreme edges of society posting memes and dishing out insults to each other.

It's boring. Most of us don't care. It also goes a long way to explain why working class people would support Trump. They've chosen a team based on a culture war and will defend the honour of that team. It's why Port supporters will go nuts that Houston was suspended at all, meanwhile other supporters will claim he got what he deserved.

But what policies does Trump have that will help working class people? His tax cuts are massively skewed to the weathiest. He will blow out the deficit with tax cuts the country can't afford, increasing interest repayments on their already massive debt (almost $1 trillion per year from a budget of $6 trillion). His plan to implement tariffs will be like a sales tax on all imports, increasing costs, not reducing them. They will hit the poorest the hardest.

But yay, I'm on team Trump. We won. You lost. Have a cry libtards.
 
I don't understand the argument of both ideologies, perhaps my ignorance. As someone looking from the outside both are a mirror image of each other and the behaviours exhibited by both sides can be terrible at times, I see no moral high ground to play.

You have very defined areas in America where the 2 ideologies have a very distinct hold.

NYC California San Francisco Chicago = very much known blue Ideology

Texas Florida = very much known red Ideology.

You have a snapshot in real time of both ideologies.you have it right there to see it play out.

I tried to understand the investment into each Ideology and I just cannot invest my energy into people/ parties who do absolutely nothing for us but widen the gap and division.

It's gotten the point where one side believes they are fighting the 4th Reich and the other side believes they are fighting literal demons....I mean wtf.

I can't treat this any other way than watching WWE.
