Churchill was right on Democracy "Democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried"

Democracy works best when the electorate is informed. That's never been further from case than now. Lies, misinformation and echo chambers (the latter across all sides of politics), makes for 'It's the vibe' elections across the West. I doubt many voting on either side in the US elections seriously looked at the economic policies (and others) of either side, to use that as to see 'who'd be best' going forward. The loss of trust in experts is perhaps the most disturbing trend of the last two decades. Scientists, economists (though questionable at times to call them experts), Doctors all are now distrusted by a large percentage of people who 'do their own research'.
Yes and being informed and doing their own research is usually down to looking for enough confirmation of their own leanings.

KrispyKremeMullanikka thankyou for posting a bunch of randos on the internet that no one except you really cares about.

This is how politics is these days for nuffies. The extreme edges of society posting memes and dishing out insults to each other.

It's boring. Most of us don't care. It also goes a long way to explain why working class people would support Trump. They've chosen a team based on a culture war and will defend the honour of that team. It's why Port supporters will go nuts that Houston was suspended at all, meanwhile other supporters will claim he got what he deserved.

But what policies does Trump have that will help working class people? His tax cuts are massively skewed to the weathiest. He will blow out the deficit with tax cuts the country can't afford, increasing interest repayments on their already massive debt (almost $1 trillion per year from a budget of $6 trillion). His plan to implement tariffs will be like a sales tax on all imports, increasing costs, not reducing them. They will hit the poorest the hardest.

But yay, I'm on team Trump. We won. You lost. Have a cry libtards.

No you moron because of young lady on TikTok said and I’ll quote some of the things she said.

Americans chose Trump because Kamala Harris ignored American families are struggling financially, unable to afford basic necessities like food.

Her response to these concerns was to showcase a celebrities who are mates of P Diddy.

The election loss was also attributed to her inadequate response to Americans who suffered devastating losses from a hurricane, where she suggested that a mere $750 should suffice for those affected, if they even qualified for assistance.

In contrast, she was criticized for funding the accommodation of illegal immigrants in luxury hotels in New York City, where they received three meals a day at the expense of taxpayers.

Harris's approach to anti-racism was also called into question, as she was seen blaming straight white men for many of the country's issues, which alienated a significant portion of the electorate.

The speaker pointed out the irony that demonizing a demographic could lead to their reluctance to support a candidate, suggesting that this strategy backfired on Harris.

Americans chose Donald Trump because the Biden/Harris administration don’t get to two fücks about the people and their genuine concerns. People are migrating illegally at a very fast rate. Their not help COA issues, prices are through the roof and inflation has barely came down.

But yeah Trump for the top end of town. Please give me a break

I didn’t watch. Is she an expert or something?

So when the tax cuts for the rich push up the national debt, when the tariffs cause costs of commodities to run up even higher, but fuel is cheaper, I guess it will all be good in the world

Despite y'know lefty things like a woman's right to not bleed out to death with any complication of pregnancy or what not

No she’s young regular person like me and you, worried about how she’s gonna pay her bills, feed her family and having good and stable employment that she can buy a home and raising a family.

Something that you lefty lunatics simply do not care about.

He was no saint, but he was what the world needed at the time. One of the few to realise early the risk of Hitler, and got the 'oh Churchill and his Hitler thing again' until it was almost too late. Much like Obama's 'the 80's wants it's policies back' line to Romney, about Russia/Putin, that doesn't cover him in glory (his repeated lack of action on crossed red lines in Syria / Crimea helped set the stage for the full scale invasion), you need leaders able to see the risks and confront them, even if it's easier to turn away and do 'business as usual'.

Why do I care what these people think? These people on social media are the type I wouldn't give the time of day in real life. Social media amplifies these morons, making it seem like everyone on Team <Lib/Conservative> is like that.

You make it sound like I'm defending Harris. I am not. I don't think she's a good candidate, and a pretty ineffective politician.

What I'm saying is that you are fighting in the culture war. People have chosen a side and will defend their side, ignoring all evidence to the contrary and accepting "facts", true or not, that they agree with. Social media has massively helped to fuel this war. Exhibit A, you say inflation has barely come down, when in fact the inflation rate in the USA has been 2.5% for the last 12 months. Pretty normal.

Republicans in the USA, and I'm talking here of the traditional right-wing capitalist Republicans, figured that with rising inequality they would not be able to win over the working and middle class, as their economic policies go against their interests. Under neo-liberal policies promoted by both sides of politics, the working class was gutted as their jobs moved overseas. So they moved the battle to the culture war, something that they CAN win in a still deeply conservative Christian country. Now politics is mainly fought on those issues. And MAGA has usurped the traditional Republicans, at least in terms of who people vote for. The problem with the Democrats is they continue to fight the culture war, because they really don't want to fight the class war either. They give lip service to working class people because they too have lots of corporate and billionaire support they need to maintain.

I would bet a lot that your listed reasons for why Harris lost were because statements by Harris had been taken out of context, amplified, and the full meaning had been lost. Sure, that's politics. I'm sure if you chose to fully research it yourself you would likely find that whatever was attributed to her was probably out of context. Same goes for what Trump has said, all his dictator comments, use of the military etc.

And if you believe Trump gives "two fücks" about his supporters and their genuine concerns, well, you're lucky you're not American. What policies has he got that will help them? He just gives broad sweeping statements like he will bring inflation down, make gas cheaper, but no real explanation on how he will do that. Republicans spent tens of millions on ads about trans people. Often Trump would get up to talk and he would say "they want me to talk about the economy", mention a few things and then ramble about illegal immigrants, migrant crime, windmills, how big his crowds were and kids getting sex changes at school. Everything to do with the culture war, nothing about real issues.

Really?

So why Trump’s budgets give a tax cut to everyone and a slight increase in tax to the rich.

A complete and an utter dibble and nonsense on your behalf once again.

In today’s world, industries like tech and the silicone valley muppets are sooo ultra left that they truly don’t give a shit about the backbone of the US.

We don’t live in a world where the Democrats, just like Labor, used to stand up for the middle class, fair rights, and, in Albo's words, giving people a fair go.

They are all about pushing the agenda of the globalists across the world. Pushing their woke, communist ideas to the world with their ESG nonsense.

Yes, so terrible that celebrities that are friends with P Diddy supported Harris.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump is literally one of those friends of P Diddy. As well as Jeffrey Eppstein.

But you know...

You're still talking through an American lens as if we're all supportive of Harris. We're Australians. Start getting your political news from somewhere other than American alt-right YouTubers so you understand that the Dems aren't "left" by any normal standard and they don't have any left wing policies. The Dems are comfortably to the right of the Australian Liberal party even though Dutton will attempt a Trump like campaign.

The entire US political system is designed to stop even the most moderate left leaning politician from succeeding. Bernie Sanders ran on a Medicare for all platform, something every other western country has, and the Dems closed ranks to push him out.

I'm guessing if you're all about cost of living, housing affordability and lower bills, you'd be voting Greens in the next Australian election given they're the only significant party interested in actually fixing those issues. I guess you could vote for Katter or Lambie if you were in North QLD or Tassie but if you're in SA, it's really only the Greens.

Uh no, it’s not all. It’s the people that have replied to me through the past couple of days.

For starters, the Democratic Party and even Labor party are not even “mainstream left,” as they say, the bordering far left, not to the same level as the Greens, but you get my point.

Secondly, this thread is about the US election, so naturally we are talking about US politics, not Australian policies, so you have to talk from an “American Lens,” as you say.

I get my info for both sides and independent journalists, not just from the internet like a lefty’s in here, calm that I do.

Lastly, I hate the Australian Greens party, always have and always will, as I don’t align with their ideologies and despite Adam Bandits and the Greens hypocrisy.
