Appears Columbia will accept immigrants returning unshackled in passenger flights, but not shackled in military flights.

Seems a reasonable request to me...

Yes
This is quite an interesting thread .. you should still be able to read it regardless of whether or not you have a twitter account

Provides a bit of a comparison on immigration from 2017-2021 and then 2021-2025

Worth listening to the brief testimony as well (it's only a few minutes)

Heads up - this is from the Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank

Thanks. Excellent explanation.
Shame it will only take one comment from Trump about Cats and Dogs and MAGA will compliantly disregard these statistics and facts.
In fact I dare even one of our resident MAGAS to watch this to the end but I doubt they will even bother to click on it.

And the problem with the Dems is they don’t have someone out there day after day to engage entertain and speak the truth to the hordes, so Trump’s BS is all they hear.

Most illegals are not prisoners Bicks.

A concept you are struggling with.

Australia & most Western countries just return the illegals unshackled... the humane way.

You have to remember he thinks thru very simplistically.

Why the need to shackle them and not let them go to the toilet - hardly ideal.

Unfortunately predictable that both sides are not strictly following the ceasefire agreement & some residents attempting to return home are being killed.

The playbook is so obvious here - Israel to have them transferred to either Egypt or Jordan then never let them back to their home once Gaza is rebuilt. Both Egypt and Jordan have rejected it out of hand and rightfully so.

The obvious answer is a two state solution but Israel will never let that occur.

Officially Oil 40%, then coffee... so will the USA now go elsewhere for these?

Tariffs won't apply to the coke... so I'm sure it will be still readily available.

Got to say that having a coffee either in a US diner, Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts is bloody woeful. Not sure what they do but it is bloody tastes foul.

“Did you return the money Weinstein gave you? @SenKamalaHarris How many predators bankroll you?” McGowan tweeted last Wednesday.

I'm confused at your point.... are you trying to say that all American politics is ****ed and corrupt? If so, I'm completely with you!

This is a complete and utter lie.

In fact, that period was when the majority of vaccine mandates and sackings in regular, non-healthcare jobs were just kicking off.

Please provide evidence of any vaccine mandates that were “relaxed” in November/December 2021.

The omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 was first reported in South Africa on 24 November 2021.

Data on its transmissibility and clinical severity and differences to previous variants were systematically collected and analysed by public health units around the world over the next few weeks/months.

These data, in addition to increasing vaccination coverage which dramatically decreased clinical severity, were used as justification for many changes to the COVID response in 2022.

It seem as though you are suggesting that before omicron even existed, governments should have:
a) guessed that this mutation would occur and what impact this would have on transmissibility and severity, and
b) made wholesale changes to their delta variant based response strategies without a shred of data to justify it.

This would of course be a very stupid suggestion. I was also under the impression you were vehemently against governments making decisions like this.

Wrong again Pete. Bad luck. You surely must be getting tired of this.

This is what happens when people only hear what they want to hear. You feel sorry but at the same time think actions have consequences and unfortunately they are learning the hard way.

Columbian coffee is a major export to USA, so will impact on coffee prices, though gather USA will look to source more coffees from other countries where there are no tariffs as 50% more would become unviable.

May not impact on Starbucks, but you are kidding yourself if there isn't going to be any impact...

Increase in world tariffs will ultimately increase inflation.

It’s more than just import/export tarriffs - which as you point out, increase prices for Americans not Colombians.

Colombia is a critical ally for the US in Latin America, not only economically but also diplomatically and militarily.

That relationship has been built over decades to address key issues like drug and human trafficking, the rise of Communism, and other threats within the Americas.

In the context that Colombia had already been accepting hundreds of deportation flights from the US per year anyway under the Biden administration (without a trade war), this grandstanding pissing contest is the latest example of how naive and stupid the Trump administration. They couldn’t even spell Colombia correctly in their press release ffs.

Not only does it achieve nothing (did I mention Colombia were already accepting hundreds of deportation flights from the US per year anyway), if the US push away their allies hard enough and fracture those relationships, those countries will increasingly be pushed to diversify their economic and political ties to allow greater influence for countries like China and Russia - who would be licking their lips at watching this nonsense unfold.

But hey, at least insecure beta males will look at Trump pushing around minorities and less powerful countries and be super impressed by what a ‘big man’ he is. Haha. It’s f***ing pathetic.

Fortunately at this stage, Colombia’s President like many other world leaders is meeting Trump’s buffoonery with calm and rationale statesmanship which I’d hope will eventually defuse this.

My 2 cents to the more grown up and constructive conversation on the Colombia issue in this thread:
