The new Houston Lonestars took on the Baton Rouge Tigers to open the 2010 USFooty season this past weekend (March 27th). Any talk, news or info throughout the season feel free to post.
New Tigers coach Tyler Smith should be happy with a good win on the weekend. Baton Rouge ran out the game well in Houston's introduction into the world of footy.
Just wanted to see how popular the sport of AFL is among high school and college age americans? I know rugby union is becoming very popluar. Will we see many american basketball players taking up AFL in the future?
HBK: Don't know if the Tigers have any games these next two weeks. Your best bet would be to look on usfootynews.com and browse the upcoming schedule to see.
Lenard: Disappointingly, Aussie Rules has not really taken off at the high school and college level. The AFL itself has not been too supportive of promoting the game at these levels which makes it hard to create in-roads. I believe this is where the next level of USFooty is and we have recently created a student organization at a local university, hoping to grow our club. Hopefully this will open doors for other clubs looking to get a leg up in the college areas.
