Some of the higher numbers are actually very decorated. 25 Brendon Gale 29 Kevin Bartlett and Bolton. 30 was Francis Bourke and 33 Matthew Knights and David Cloke. 39 Andrew Kellaway 41 Scotty Turner, Nathan Foley. Just because it's a higher number doesn't make it bad. To say that Brown needs a higher number than 30 is sacrilege, he is wearing the number of one of the all time Richmond greats

Pickett's #50 also

3 is a huge number at West Coast with only Mainwaring, Judd & Gaff before him. A huge honour for Bakes!
Might need to go have a squiz at how the weagles fans are taking it

Personally I think it’s a fantastic honour for Baker and one he will prove worthy of

But I have a feeling he’s a little bit underrated across the comp

Going to hurt seeing him in eagles colours but genuinely wish him all the best and every success

Pardon the intrusion guys, I may be creeping in the background following this thread to see what you guys do with your ‘prime’ numbers.

Most of us preferred to have Pick 3 in the #3 but since the waters have moved, no real issues with Bakes getting it.

Sense I get with Bakes is he just needs to play a game for us for the majority to see, he’s a solid citizen, more than solid footballer but what’s been missing most (bar general skill lol), someone not named Harley with a bit of mongrel.

I don’t think he’ll reach All Aust heights like the players before him but it does make sense.

Graham in JK doesn’t make as much sense but we did also give away our last premiership captains number to a journeyman giants ruckman like nothing.

Never apologise for jumping in and putting your 2c mate

Think you have pretty much hit the nail on the head

Don’t think he will ever be an AA but he’s also not that type of player either

He’s a real heart and soul type who will always bust his gut for the jumper and his team mates

He will never shirk a contest and play any role on gameday that’s needed be it back, forward or in the midfield
The perfect senior head to have around your young guns

There hasn’t been a Tiger I’ve watched play the game (maybe Dusty but he was a freak) where I found myself saying bloody well done. It’s all the small things, the bumps, the shepherds, the spoils, the running back with the flight unaware of what’s about to crunch him. The one percenters that make the very good footballers very good footballers are Bakes bread and butter.

You guys will love him. I’m still shattered he’s gone even though we were fairly compensated.

I’ll absolutely be following the Eagles with Bakes, Jack and Mini hoping you go well in any game except v us.

I think it's the right way to do it. It's better to spread the amount of coveted numbers, and also give those numbers time to rest. Giving those numbers to blow ins from the east for 5 years helps with this.

Richmond are in a bind because all our good numbers are empty, and so the pressure to give those good numbers away is massive, and the pressure on the players to perform is high as well.

Lalor has said that #4 is his number that he has always worn so no problem giving 4 to him.
There wont be "more" pressure on him just because he is wearing #4
If anything it would be better for the club to keep selling #4 jumpers.
I'd probably buy one for my lilttle fella.

Definitely more pressure put on him if he takes the #4; the comparisons from the media (and fans to a lesser extent) would be incessant.
That fact however wouldn't necessarily make it a bad thing as he might be an old chunk of coal who relishes the added pressure.

He's just a kid hence not worth the risk straight off the bat imo ...not to mention dimma's philosophy of higher numbers for draftees seemed to work prettyyyy well

One thing I don’t mind about the whole earning the number thing is that it kinda mitigates a “dud” draft pick getting a really good number

Sometimes players just don’t work out or live up to the hype of draft night

Imagine Sonsie running around in a sub 20 number when he still hasn’t really shown anything

Who cares though? It's just a number.
