The VAFA compared to other leagues such as the EDFL, WRFL & SFNL is run well, but there is always room for improvement. It seems like there have been more players drafted to the AFL in the past couple of years that are aligned to VAFA clubs than the U18 clubs Calder Cannons & Western Jets linked to the EDFL & WRFL over the past 10 years. I would like to see the draft results of the VAFA opposed to that of the EDFL & WRFL.

From the VAFA AGM to slagging off Suburban footy Leagues who all play a huge role in their own communities, if you want to research draft stats just use Google, the EDFL must be going ok as talented players seem to be heading there

Sad for Westbourne but hopefully the players coming through the school and the work being done with Newport Power works in the long term.

Sure its great to have kids drafted but unfortunately our beloved comp is shrinking.

That is a given since all the best players in those regions are being offered scholarships. The management and selection of players at the Cannons has been an issue for a number of years now. As for the Jets the demographic of their selection area has changed to where AFL is not the preferred sport of parents and to some degree the EDFL as well. Most selectors would say the APS is the better competition.
With two teams in the past month going from the WRFL to the EDFL, is there a chance in 10 years that those two regions will join and become one north western league?

Can’t imagine the juniors will join Weatbourne they will go to the senior Newport club, even though they not aligned now.

Let's see what happens with the VAFA AGM tonight, but I agree with the general consensus on here that finding volunteers is becoming more and more difficult for all clubs at all levels from premier section down. It seems very few people are willing to put their hands up. I know of particular premier section clubs with an entire committee of 5-6 people at most running a football club, that's a lot of work for not that many.

.....and the lower down the grades you get the more you 'may' have to find ie: club umpires. It's another reason how the expansion of the number of teams that some clubs can have has a trickle down impact on some smaller/lower division clubs. Clearly under 23's have to go, club thirds teams would be under consideration along with the number of under 19's any one club can field? Some difficult challenges for the VAFA H/O no doubt.

Chump.

Agree. It would be fair to say that in general the number of teams that a competition can sustain is more relevant than the amount of clubs?

I'm sure that clubs in the divisions would have even less people putting their hands up, but I was more making the point that if people don't want to put their hands up at supposed big and successful clubs, then it must be just as tough, if not tougher for clubs lower down in VAFA divisions.

Yes, that would be a reasonable way to look at things and I would suggest one of the things those at H/O would be assessing. It could be better to have less clubs and more teams for those that can work it?

One of the outcomes might be a merger of more teams, especially in C-D4
or
Some clubs move competitions to better their chance of survival/long term relevance (paid players, paid staff, etc) as an outcome of expanded revenue generation opportunities in those competitions.

Tricky times for those in charge for sure.

Chump.
