The privileged few, you mean those kids whose rich parents put them through the most expensive private schools just so they could go to Uni, study an arts degree and spend their life protesting about whatever the latest crusade of the loony left is?

Anyway latest figures from their hero says it’s the younger generation that is spreading the disease like wildfire. Why? Because they don’t give a sh*t and think it’s not going to kill me. They don’t care they may spread it to the older generation and kill them off because they’ve been taught to hate boomers!

Thank you NavyBlue09 regarding the later generation who are the grandchildren of us Baby Boomers. I feel that you are wrong in your opinion as today’s children love their (Boomer) grandparents. we Baby Boomers are the ones who nurtured your parents and are now your grandparents. We instilled our parents’ work ethic and good manners to our children hoping that they would bring that same discipline and respect to you, our grandchildren. That ethic was, and still is very strong. Group loyalty, affinity, family — all those cultural things were instilled and remain important.

We also played for, worked for, and kept [in the main] our football clubs active and successful during the past 50 years for you to enjoy today. Boomers didn’t inflate the football payments of mercenaries to enhance their own self esteem. We paid to play, have pride in our football teams but don’t gloat, nor belittle. I am still involved with the football club with which I played (seniors) as a 14 year old.

Baby Boomers are easy to spot at sporting events; during the National Anthem, Baby Boomers remove their hats, stand to attention and sing without embarrassment. They know the words and believe in them.

Baby Boomers remember the aftermath of World War II, and listened with respect to our parents, many of whom served during WWII and prior to that had weathered the austerities of the great Depression. As children we remember the post war shortages.

We knew of and read about Pearl Harbour, Japanese genocide in China, Normandy, Spitfires, the Battle of Britain and Hitler. We remember the aftermath of the Atomic Bomb, the Korean War, Vietnam War (where many of us were sent as conscripts to fight for the oppressed), the Cold War, and all Peacekeeping Missions from 1945 to Now.

If you bump into a Baby Boomer on the pavement, he will apologise. If you pass a Baby Boomer on the street, he will nod or smile towards a lady. Baby Boomers trust strangers to whom they are helpful, and polite.

Baby Boomers hold the door for the next person and always, when walking try to ensure the lady is on the inside for protection. If we stop whilst shopping, we move to the side of the pathway so that others can pass. On public transport, we allow commuters time to disembark prior to boarding.

Boomers didn’t push up the prices of houses: we paid no more than the equivalent of 4 times our gross wage for our family home. Subsequent generations who wanted something better than their parents plus new furniture

immediately embraced hire purchase and credit cards then sent their wives to work, doubling the household income. Subsequent generations were then able to afford higher loan repayments. That greed and self-image pushed up the prices of homes, not us Boomers.

Baby Boomers, in the main seldom brag except about our children and grandchildren. We are embarrassed if someone swears in front of women and children and don't like any filthy language on TV and, again [in the main] don’t use bad language at the football.

It's us Baby Boomers who know our great country is protected, not by politicians, but by the decent and well trained young men and women in the Navy, Army and Air Force, like many of us 20 year old conscripts once were. This country needs Baby Boomers’ work ethic, sense of responsibility, pride in our country and decent values, now more than ever.

I was taught to respect my elders. It's just getting harder to find them. I think that it’s because we are now the elders.

Your comment NavyBlue09 that the younger generation ‘don’t care they may spread it to the older generation and kill them off because they’ve been taught to hate boomers’. A reprehensible comment. I can guarantee that my 9 grandchildren don’t agree with your nasty comment. My wife and I love them from the bottom of our hearts, and the return in love is something that I feel that you will never understand.

Very good read and very true.

Some truth to this but also some falsehood.

Even in ther one day grade I play in, only 2 teams out of the 8 or 10 don't have functional rooms of either a social nature, a change nature or both.

You wouldn’t see rooms out east in most grades and even if you do, no one uses them anyway!

Best chance is to ha e 2 grounds, but those on the back ground don’t get changed in the rooms!

Fact is cricket is a lot more easy to avoid going indoors and should have less issues than football in starting.

Victoria deciding to ban everything is the biggest obstacle here, but every other state will start on time

Very nice post, I hope you didn’t take my comments as hating boomers, but obviously you’re grandkids weren’t out protesting with 10,000 strangers or biting police or having large birthday parties during lockdown.

Those wonderful members of generation me are the ones who don’t care and there is plenty of evidence of their self importance and bullet proof attitudes for me to stand by my point.

How will the $100,000 salary cap change football in Victoria? Do they also need to reduce points to stop clubs (especially VAFA clubs) benefiting?

The only clubs in our division of NWMCA without rooms are clubs that have a certain dna about them...and the way they even treat the tea break would have you ropeable!

As in ECA? Funnily enough that's the league I play in. Why did you ignore my post?

If they reduce the points no-one from higher levels will be able to play footy anywhere Max.

Out east it’s a case of not enough grounds, most grounds in our council areas are just patches of grass with a cricket pitch in the middle or schools which don’t include rooms as part of their lease.

Next one over and I didn’t see it.

Oh, Ferntree Gully League. Heard some interesting things about that league.

On a side note it might be a good time for the VAFA to target some more district clubs to bolster the competition. As a lot of the suburban clubs will not have as many funds readily available due to business downturns stemming from covid.

Additionally, I think it would be wise for the VAFA to revisit the regional approach for the divisional sections.

North West 1
North West 2
South East 1
South East 2

The winners of North West 1 and South East 1 get promoted to Premier C.

The bottom 2 of Premier C will be allocated to North West 1 or South East 1 depending on location.

The winners of North West 2 and South East 2 get promoted up to North West 1 and South East 1.

The bottom of North West 1 and South East 1 get relegated to North West 1 and South East 1.

Good thinking. I think this discussion is necesary given the dwindling numbers in the Divisions even before Covid-19. To play devils advocate, what if the two coming down from C are in same Division? Eg. both South East. Would you be prepared to reshuffle the zones each year?

Here's a trip down memory lane from 10 years ago in our last year of VAFA.

After it was floated for 2012 that the VAFA was "looking at looking into" localised divisions, I attempted to devise a divisional structure between Div 1 & Div 4. Divisions were based on location at the end of the 2010 season with a promotion/relegation system.

This below is unedited and of course at the time was met with a response of "ridiculous". If anything its a little nostalgic to see where clubs are placed now. Anyway here it was, have a laugh (again if you will):

On a side note for 2012, I am to believe there is a GM happening in regards to the lower grades D1 - D4 and turning them into SOUTH 1, NORTH 1, SOUTH 2, NORTH 2. Similiar to that of the 19s.

It would make perfect sense, especially for those wanting to play "Local Footy".
Its true, the VAFA are floating the idea of making the lower divisions more local, but couldn't give a time frame as to when.
So with nothing to do now on Saturday/Sunday arvos I'll have a stab at what the future divisions could look like if the concept were to come in next year. So here goes....

Divisions are based purely on location of teams & 2011 standings, & on the assumption no team leaves or joins the VAFA before 2012. Division 1 (Premier) stands as is regardless of location to make it fair
(Team & 2011 Div)

Division 1 (Premier)
North Old Boys/St Pats (D1), Bulleen Templestowe (D1), Old Mentonians (D1), Whitefriars (D1), Peninsula (D1), Old Geelong (D1), Banyule (D1), Old Paradians (D1), Williamstown (D1), Parkdale (D1)

North
Aquinas (D2), Yarra Valley (D2), Therry Penola (D2), La Trobe Uni (D2), Eltham (D2), Ivanhoe (D3), UHS-VU OB (D3), Mt Lilydale (D3), West Brunswick (D3), Manningham (D4), North Brunswick (D4)

South
South Melbourne (D2), St Leos (D2), Glen Eira (D2), Bentleigh(D2), St Johns (D2), Old Westbourne (D2), Prahran (D3), St Marys Salesian (D3), Elsternwick (D3), Albert Park (D3), Powerhouse (D3)

South (1)
Hawthorn (D3), Monash Gryphons (D3), St Francis Xavier (D4), Box Hill North (D4), South Mornington (D4), Swinburne (D4), Eley Park (D4), Richmond (D4), Chadstone (D4), Point Cook (D4) , Kew (D4)

*Most won't agree but the Premier Div has 10 teams the other comps have 11 teams, having a bye
*Grand Final winner of Premier only gets promoted to C Section
*Only last placed C Section demoted to Division 1 (Premier)
*Grand Final winner of both North & South only get promoted to Premier every year
*Bottom 2 of Premier - demoted: North get 1 team & South get the other
*Grand Final winner of South (1) gets promoted to South
*only last placed in South gets demoted to South (1)
*No-one ever gets demoted from North

Before I sat down & mapped this out I gave the concept no chance of working at all, but I think this may actually be viable. What do you guys think?I might sell the idea to the VAFA

You would like to realign the sections on the basis of geography of the teams in the sections.

I like the idea of sections based on geography but I feel there would still be a vast scope of clubs players abilities and that would effect results. There's a huge jump from D4 to D3 let alone if a D4 team had to come up against a D2 side twice in 1 season.
I just dont see that being fair, I can see a lot of players being "unavailable or too sore" to play some of those games.

Would be better to regroup/consolidate the divisions from 1 to 3. (Scrap D4 and have everyone shuffle up).

This model operated in the lower grades of the seniors up until maybe the late 90's, perhaps even into the 2000's (?). Was still operating in the unders until just a few years ago. Was scrapped as competitive games were seen as a being more important than travel. I also believe that the change was club driven. Has been raised several times since but has not been re-introduced for the same reasons it was scraped.

With some recent departures from the VAFA citing travel as an impediment I agree that perhaps is time to have the conversation, at least for the bottom two grades.

Good call re the bottom couple of grades. Most clubs enter the VAFA at the lowest at the level. So if they are good enough they will progress up the grades.

Out of interest, I wonder how many of those were insisting that a season go ahead, are now glad VAFA decided to cancel the season when it did?
Same to those who were suggesting 'time to get on with it' and 'move on'. Goes to show a lot of people in the general public didnt take this seriously and now we are truly suffering. Particularly with the numbers and lockdowns that are occurring.

When does pre season usually start - mid November?
Is it too early to begin discussing whether or not preparations for 2021 will be delayed? My guess is they will be but I hope I'm wrong.

Good example is to call up the DHHS/Coronavirus hotline and see how long you'll wait to be on hold for. A large amount of people are wanting to get exemptions to be able to work etc etc
It will never end! Vaccine or bust Im afraid.

To be fair, without the hotel quarantine debacle, we would be playing footy at the moment. Look at Adelaide, Sydney, Perth, Brisvegas, all playing local footy again now.
if we stayed on the same path we were on when this debate was originally raging, we’d be off to training tonight, getting ready for round 3.
