VAFA General Discussion

NFNL have already informed clubs of the cancelled games and that no make-up games will be scheduled, and have posted to their website and social media.

VAFA, as always, as slow as anything.

Just don’t get it as the byes are there . Clubs need to speak up .

They (NFNL) made that call preseason that any cancelled games would not be rescheduled (presumably for fairness if more games were cancelled than they had bye weekends to make them up)

Personally I'd love to see them rescheduled but also understand if they were not

Same for SFNL.

Looks like no rescheduling and fixtures will just remain the same.

My post from the D2 thread regarding Match Ratio

It's a mechanism that is put in place in the event that certain sides have more games cancelled than others. For example if Ivanhoe have a game cancelled in Round 16 because a number of players have been ordered to isolate, them (and their opponent) would then finish the season with 16 games compared to 17 from everyone else. As such, the Match Ratio is used to figure out ladder positions. Match Ratio is essential % of games won.

It won't be relevant at this stage as all games are cancelled so all teams remain on the same games played.

Yeah VAFA not rescheduling as per their Covid Policy

Fwiw, Picola DFNL (league up around the vic/nsw border between Echuca and Yarrawonga) have pushed their fixture back and absorbed their July bye.

No surprises.

VAFA Statement: COVID-19 Update
Posted on Thu, 27th May 2021 - Latest News, Featured

Brett Connell – VAFA CEO

As a result of today’s State Government announcement of a seven-day circuit breaker lockdown for Victoria from 11:59pm tonight (Thursday 27 May), there will be no community sport for at least the next seven days.

As such, Round 8 of VAFA football has been cancelled. Please refer to the Conditions of Play in a COVID-19 Environment Policy below which was recirculated to clubs earlier this week.

Community football activity can still take place as scheduled up until 11:59pm tonight, provided existing COVID protocols as imposed by the government are adhered to.

At this stage, the VAFA will be planning for Round 9 (June 5/6) as usual.

The VAFA Office will be closed during this period with the Administration Team available during office hours by either email or mobile.

New Restricted Activity Directions will be provided and, as more details come to hand, we will continue to update you all.

Please adhere to the (5) reasons ONLY for leaving home outlined by the State Government.

We look forward to returning for Round 9 of the VAFA season.

Keep safe and well.

Tough luck . Not fair on clubs playing bottom teams . Might as well not have any promotion or relegation.

So what you mean is you're somehow affected by this, and you don't like it so they should change the rules to suit.

The same unfairness is in place if you move the games, it's just affects a different group.

His club is playing a team in 6th and only 1 game behind them.

Maybe the suggestion is that IF we have the opportunity to 'make up' a lost round, should we 'explore' the opportunity around that with clubs?

I agree that a significant % of people could be also disadvantaged if we use the Queens B'day long weekend,so maybe that would be unfair. But maybe the July bye weekend could be offered up to keep the season as equitable as possible ie: everyone playing each other twice (in most grades) as you would have thought it may impact less players???

Full disclosure - Our club 'looks to be' a bit unfortunate in how things have dropped as we were about to play the bottom team (not that GTD's anything in Ammo footy) AND the teams we are fighting for a finals four spot with were playing the top teams or each other. So, from a personal point of view I would obviously like to see ALL options explored to balance things up if we can.

That said, we accept it is what it is .......... and will aim to win 10 straight on the run home and sneak into some finals action if we are good enough :)

Cheers, Chump.

The Premier grades have 2 byes in July , surely one is used

The time to complain about the policy was when it was announced. Not now if the draw unfortunately doesn’t help you like it may help others. It is what it is. Tiny in the real scheme of things.
Let’s hope it’s a one week issue. But if it’s 2 or 3, it’s 2 or 3.
Hipp.

So why do we have a double bye ?
