Back in the day when commercial networks cared about the news.

That first 60 minutes team of George Negus, Ray Martin, Ian Leslie and (later) Jana Wendt that Gerald Stone put together was all about serious journalism (with a bit of sex appeal thrown in) and it rated its socks off.

I think our politicians were far more accountable than now because of it.
 
Growing up in the 80's 60 minutes was my introduction to serious journalism. No cheerleading your 'side' of the political divide like Sky/Fox/ABC etc. or trash pretend journalism like A Current Affair or Today Tonight. It's a pity a serious impartial show like it today, wouldn't get the viewers (or be appealing to any of the networks), as it's more needed then ever.
