This thread is a testament to what i feel in my time was the glory period of BF.

RIP to the man.

Talking of the 'Golden era' of Big Footy with Grizz.

I managed to get in contact with Crannypete.

True story *

I said have you heard about what happened to Grizz? He replied "Who's Grizz?"

I said "ex BF Mod Hawks board"

His reply " I think he banned me about 20 times including three life bans"

Aagh, the 'Golden era' of Big Footy.

RIP Grizzlym.

Afternoon BigFooty,

I’m Kobi, Matt’s son. Only time I visited here was to learn something new about my old man’s old man, who I understand to be immortalised in the folklore of the forum.

For a good part of my life, Matt was immersed in this community. While I knew that Grizzlym was a figure of some prominence (once upon a time), only recently did I discover he posted 93,000 odd times - equating to something like 30 posts a day over 11 years. Eventually, work and family took precedence and my father didn’t have the time or brain space to post anymore. Who knows though, maybe my mum had a word to him.

For anyone wondering about the circumstances of his passing, Matt died of a heart attack last week at 53 with no previously known health complications. His death was a tragedy, and a complete shock.

My father was a smart, smart man who ironically enough, bared many of the same quirks and eccentricities which he wrote about his own dad having. He was a loving parent, a great role model, and a stable presence in my life.

If anyone wishes to share any stories /ask me any questions about Matt feel free to pm or respond on the thread. Happy to share anything I can.
Sorry to hear about your dad

Our condolences to you and family

I shudder to think how long I have spent as a moderator on this board (and I'm still the most recent to be made moderator). I started out as a junior or a spec moderator focusing on the Box Hill board before getting the full gig.

Together with my fellow moderators, grizzlym inducted me into the role and made sure I had everything I needed to take it on. I still go and read through old mod threads now and again to refresh my memory on his sage advice.

Won't be the same without him. Condolences to your family, Kobi. RIP, grizzlym.

I don't want to play with your mind there "Dixie Flatline" but by my count, at least 3 and maybe even 4 of the first 6 moderators on this board have left this mortal coil!

Maybe Mods should get hazard pay?

Just back from Matt's funeral @ Springvale Botanical Cemetary.

Young Kobi, Matt's wife, brother and his legendary father all gave the most eloquent of speeches about the life of their father, husband and son.

Said to young Kobi if he ever felt the need to talk, he was always welcome to come onto the Hawks board where he would be most welcome.

Kobi in fact mentioned Big Footy in his address.

Well done to H2F, Houdihuddo and the Big X for also representing us all here @ Big Footy.

Not sure his dad has read the posts relating to him.;)

Thanks for the writeup Rusty

Not the greatest news coming off a mini break from logging in. RIP to Matt and condolences to all who knew him on here and out in the real world - sounds like a genuinely great human being. Thanks to all those who shared their stories.

I can't believe this.

Matt was one of the first people I met in real life from BigFooty. He was also the man who made RustyHawk and my life easier when we both stepped down from moderating aeons ago now and he went on to make this board (and the rest of BigFooty) a wonderful place to chat. My sincere condolences to you and your family, Kobi. What awful, awful news.

The old 'Philhawk' days were great. Seems like a lifetime ago!
