VALE JOHN IBRAHIM

John Ibrahim played 85 games and kicked 50 goals with North from 1962-68, mainly on the half forward line. Those who saw him play will recall his unusual kicking style. After his VFL career finished he went to Sunshine where he became captain-coach, and later to Sunbury.

Very sad. Loved him as a player. Remember him kicking 5 against *Essendon in about ‘66 in a very good win. About his kicking action, an old friend said he turned up at his school as a guest and said his family couldn’t afford a real footy ,so he and his mates made one out of tied up newspaper and said the only way he could get it to go very far was to throw it onto his foot so , even after he joined North, he looked like he was throwing the ball down onto his boot.

ibby ran footy for a period up in cairns (around 1998-2003) with another kanga legend jeff hopgood and helped set up footy in the far north and put it on the map. top blokes RIP to both great men.
