So, this was posted on Collingwood's Instagram account.

Feeling it in the belly now, I think it's a combination of butterflies and the sick, sad feeling I have for the boys having to wear these bands tonight. It's such a damn shame.

R.I.P. J Mac.

That is such a powerful, yet beautiful image.

Wow, I was just covered in goosebumps and overcome by emotion during that minute silence. Tears were shed after the final siren. It was great to see "R.I.P. Mate" on the banner as well, and it was also great to see Blairy and Harry kissing their armbands after they kicked goals.

You did J-Mac proud, boys. Side by side forever.

Tough call isn't it? We'd normally be in Sydney by then wouldn't we? Funerals are pretty draining.

I don't think it's a tough call at all. I would be so disappointed with Collingwood and the AFL if they couldn't go to the funeral of an old team mate.

Regardless the club has said they will go to the funeral and fly to Sydney afterwards.

"The build-up will be complicated by the funeral in Sorrento on Thursday of John McCarthy, the former Collingwood and Port Adelaide player who died last week.

The entire Magpies playing group will attend the funeral, followed by the long trip from Sorrento to the airport and then on to Sydney.

It is hardly the ideal preparation, but it is a necessary one and Maxwell would not have it any other way.

"We don't care when it is, even if it is the day before the match. We're not going to miss an opportunity to say goodbye to one of our mates," he said"

i posted last week that jmacs death in some ways provided an escape from the normal lead up to a game. instead of going over the game plan and contemplating the thrashing of a few weeks before, their thoughts were constantly driven to the loss of a great mate and essentially thinking about everything else but the game. remember these guys are professionals and going thru the process again on thursday will again provide the catalyst for a week different to normal. teams often are looking for ways to distract the players mentally and only prime them on the actual game day. we have had such a situation arise, be it thru tragic circumstances.

and again as stated before, they are professionals. they wont win because of johns death. theyll win in spite of it. likewise they wont lose because of john, but because they werent good enough.

Well done,i agree 100%

Apparently sorrento's score yesterday was 10-13-73..collingwood kicked exactly the same score last night..how weird is that.
If this is correct, it spooks the crap out of me. I'm telling you my believe is when you go your spirit has ways of doing things. He has to be looking down on his old teams surly. Can J Mac get us a win for the next 2 matches?
