VFL 2021

Sharks are a very professional outfit, and have been outstanding in the new competition.Im looking forward to when they play the Vic clubs in a few weeks time once covid has settled down for a bit.

What is people's read on what they will do next season with the league?

I can't imagine they will only bring in the non-Vic clubs for one season now that they have their hands on them, but they also kept the VFL name, which seems odd.

A lot of people in Qld want Southport and Aspley to return to our state league.

A lot of people don’t want them back in our state league as both have 10x the footy budget of the other clubs and would go back to beating up on sides like the sharks did back in the 80s and 90s. Plenty of 200 point thrashings

Agree... QAFL doesn't want Aspley and Southport back, its great for Queensland football having them in the VFL.

The battle of Bell Street is back.

And it gets a best on ground medal too

Aspley will be in the qafl next year, Southport will stay in a comp that will let them have a stacked side and allow them to keep their own salary cap
A shame about Aspey if were to go back to the QAFL I thought them Southport Broadbeach maybe Canberra Demons the strong NSWFL clubs the strong VFL stand alone clubs could have been part of a revamped NEFL competition but these days comes down to $$$$$

Fantastic 157th Battle of Bell St today.

Ants prevail by a point for three wins in a row!

Bullants led by 23 points at three quarter time after kicking with what most of us felt was a four goal wind.

Coburg came home strong, dominated, and levelled the scores with 10 minutes to go. To this point the Ants had not scored in the last, so it felt inevitable that a three goal Lions win was on the cards.

Somehow, the Bullants wrestled parity of play back, scored a behind and held on in a desperate final 10 minutes. Ridiculous!

One team near Bell St
There's only one team near Bell St...

It was a great game! My heart was in my throat in that last quarter, but we pulled it out in the end! Just!
Go Bullants! Keep on the march. ❤️🐜🐜🐜❤️

Love the fact it's back to the way it should be, but hated the result...

Sounds like a terrific last quarter, great win by the Bullants. They looked a little out of their depth early in the season but have come to grips with the standard and found their feet.

157th time they've played is phenomenal we've got to preserve all of these standalone clubs all with such long and rich histories. Pretty sure Willy and Port have reached 200 meetings and close to it with Coburg. All four are incredibly important but all four have been in trouble at some stage in the last 25 years.

I went to Point Gellibrand on Saturday with the sun out and there's no better place to watch footy when it is. Great improvements to the facilities and the new surface is fantastic. Geelong a little too strong and their better AFL listed players got them home. Jordan Clark, Zac Guthrie and Simpson a bit too steady. Willy got within a goal in the last quarter and were on top , but haphazard forward 50 entries late on cost us.

Hope when the Queensland teams come to Willy, its a bit blowy and not so welcoming.;)

So good to hear excited fans loving grassroots footy - warms my heart as I sit here in Sydney with no local games to watch.

We'll all get there.👍👍 🤜🤛

My experience is that Southport are well and truly locked in to the concept of playing at the highest level, whatever the sacrifice required.
But someone from Aspley would have to let us know if the Hornets have that strong committment too.
The Canberra Demons were a late developer and I don't think they had the culture to survive the challenges of VFL footy - they have the $$$ but a lot think like me that it's money down the toilet. Unless you offer a deadset and relevant pathway to 'greater things.' I reckoned that Eastlake were happy with their lot in NEAFL Mk.1
The strong NSWFL clubs are nowhere near that level...mostly amateur and staffed by volunteers and funded by chook raffles.

Sydney Uni could have given it a decent crack but for whatever reasons the University (SUSF) have no interest in putting up any cash for it. Could have raised their profile a fair bit I would have thought, alas not to be. Probably happy with the rugby occupying the semi-pro men's space.
