He was playing up on the wing at stages of the night and was in some nice links of play. Showed good evasion and perfect delivery of the football.
The kid is so far ahead of where he should be its not funny

Yeah I like him alot for the most part. I just dont want to see him dropping marks like that one is all. We have to many fumblers and besides that one gripe I liked his game overall. I look forward to watching him this year.
if hes going to play as the other genuine kpf and take players away from jack he needs to be good in the air. i dont see it yet. give me post anyday.

Through all your constant negativity, I think you make a good point with this.
Vickery actually seems better at ground level than in the air to me. A couple of things he did last night like scoop the ball off the turf and run away was like a big ruck rover. In the air, he doesn't seem as comfortable which is a worry for a 199cm high draftee.
Thought it ws the first time he has showed he could become a player. Good agility for a big fella. Still looks a year or so away before he starts impacting games (although with his agility it could click earlier) and his marking was poor, but he did show its worth getting some games into him this year. Some of his directional tap work was also quite good.
Played a decent game last night without having a big impact. I have faith he will become a player.

The big grab over Warnock was pretty good... the only times he was outmarked the ball was kicked long and well and truly to the advantage of a carlton player or was 3 on 1 and he was blocked from the contest. Otherwise he at least brought it to ground.
As for the dropped chest mark a few players dropped some sitters last night and from memory one was chris judd.
I don't think he will be a superstar of the league (does anyone) but i strongly believe now that he will be a player who helps with our structure who will play his part week in week out.
Having a leading up CHF who can give Gus some relief when its needed excites me because he will still beef up in the future.
Put in Benny Griffiths in the forwards line as well it could start stretching other teams tall defenders.

Not sure where his status will end up, but in the few pre-season pracy matches and again on Thursday night he looks a completely different player. In a few years he will be a man mountain and a star for us. I bet our coaching staff are ticked pink at his progress and at this stage is definitely looking like maybe being a quality pick 8.
the difference for me was he actually looked lively, looked he had some idea, was trying to get involved and his movement was alot better too.
Liked his game but i think he needs to present a bit more on the wing instead of standing a kick and a half infront of the play.

he can mark, that funtion was just disabled during the match. the mechanics are replacing the button for next round. happy with his game though and happy if he plays 22 games this year. plus finals

I know Vickery cops a lot of shit, but I thought he played rather well against Carlton.
He looks like he has good disposal, and can evade players nicely, ruckwork and marking could do with improving but will take time.
Was the most promising ruckman out there for mine and looks like he could play as an extra mid.

People need to remember this is only his third year and he should probably still be playing in the VFL.
A good comparison is Ayce Cordy. Was drafted the same year as a F/S selection and was expected to go top 5. He hasn't looked like debuting yet and he had similar talent levels to Vickery.
When he gathered the ball and turned on a dime on the wing and then delivered to White (who dropped the simple chest mark)....my mouth was watering. That kick was perfectly weighed and half of our smalls would struggle to make it.
Also really liked his tap work...think in 2-3 years he will be one of the better rucks. Should be Cox like gathering it 20 times a game.

He only cops shit from supporters who know F*** all about the game.
We have a lot of supporters like that. If players don't make an instant impact, they are banished as a dud and no good.
Anyone with slight knowledge of the game would recognise the talent he has and how long it takes a bigger bloke to make it at this level.
He is well ahead of where he should be. Will only get even better and make a lot of people embarrassed.
