The Vics will have a mix of Big Bash League and San Francisco Unicorns players, including internationals Corey Anderson and Scott Edwards, Melbourne Renegade Jon Wells, England and former Melbourne Stars and Renegades player Joe Clarke, and Premier cricketers Farzan Chowna, Max Birthisel, Callum Stow, Blake Macdonald and Jackson Smith.

does anyone know much about these guys we're picking for this T20 tournament?
Macdonald played half a dozen matches for NSW last year. Made runs for fun at Sydney Grade level for years.

Why do it?

On top in a pretty even comp. Crone looks like he's finally ready to take that step. Two games against a struggling Queensland before the break which hopefully puts us further in front.

I'd be tempted to give Blake Thomson a run, or Brasher opening. I don't mind Ash but he's not currently at the level, let him have a few years down below to work on his issues.

What purpose does it serve to benefit Victorian Cricket?
Financial, promotes partnership with the US team they’re affiliated with, and gives some premier cricketers a bit of experience against international calibre players. (Best guess)

Do we know how far away Sutherland is? Any danger of Short, Maxi or Bolo (who should be released from drinks carrying duty) playing the next one?
It's a minor side strain so likely plays before Xmas but might miss the next.

Only player on National Duties will be Boland. Short and Maxi should be available for the next Shield game. One possibly opens.

It'd be cool to see:
Harris
Rogers
Short
Handscomb
Maxwell
Harper
Sutherland
Elliott
O'Neill
Murphy
Boland

Imagine if we had a fit and firing Puc to insert at the top instead of Rogers. Sigh.

I'm willing to give Kellaway a couple more games and reassess. He's made a lot of starts. Today he got a good one first ball, it happens.

Too reliant on Harris and Handscomb, need to find some depth
I’d be happy just finding a few batsman. Depth is a pipedream. Rogers I think can make it, if it were me I’d put Ollie Peake straight in and give Brasher an opportunity.

I’m not convinced on either Kellaway or Merlo but I’m leaning towards No and ive seen enough of Chandrisinghe to say he needs to improve quite a few aspects of his game. Short will only ever be a white ball player.

Stop dicking around and find some red ball players or put time into those that might make it

Why would Maxwell not play?If they are talking about him playing in the Sri Lanka test series he needs more red ball cricket.BUT on the down side keeping a younger player out of the shield side if he did play.

He hurt his hamstring in last night's T20 - so injury could keep him out for a period

Maxwell is booked to play golf this Sunday, long before his injury, so that tells you how interested he was to play for Victoria in a shield game, he was never playing the next shield game

But we will still hear about how he can play the SL tests, even though he has no interest in proving himself for it like every other shield player has too, he just expects to b given it on reputation.

I’ve got more chance of going on that Tour than he has

He may never get another opportunity at the higher level again but Handscomb has been a very good servant of Vic cricket. And is still playing very well.

2024 in FC matches: 1, 8, 114, 0, 71, 0, 6, 26, 51, 68, 99, 109, 11, 81, 103, 92, 1, 5, 63, 46, 139*, 129, 3*, 64, 5, 1, 8, 56, 56*

Most 50+ scores in FC cricket in 2024. 1416 runs @ 52.5. 4 centuries, 10 50s.

I'd be surprised if he wasn't playing the two tests in Sri Lanka. Still one of the best players of spin in the country.
