I was looking at Malaysia for a few weeks a bit in KL and Penang maybe a quick trip to Cambodia to see a templeI've been to Vietnam twice, Cambodia three times now and just did three weeks in Malaysia in November.
Liked Malaysia so much that we are already planning to go back again in august 2019 for a few weeks longer.
Happy to answer questions on all three destinations (assuming I can actually provide and answer).

Yeah Silk are good.
They're known for being the only airline that flies from Singapore direct to Kathmandu Nepal, for those into that part of the world.

I've travelled a lot around Asia, and Macau is probably the most underwhelming place I've been to. At least when I was there in 2015, the air pollution was horrendous which meant you couldn't stay outside for long, it was full of Casinos and malls, little charm to the place.Travel schedule changed, 2017 became a write off, 2018 became a US trip, 2019 visited South Korea and 2020 am hoping for more of Europe.
This trip is on the next list of Asian countries along with a trip of Honk Kong/ Macau, so will have to decide between the two
HK though is at the other extreme, one of my favourite cities anywhere in the world.
If the alternative is a trip to Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, I'd do that.

Hoping it's not a case of one vs the other, but that I'll eventually get to do both trips. I have a big list of places I'd like to get to in my lifetime so it just depends which one gets prioritized. Parts of Europe are the 2020 plan, so the Asian trip will be 2021.
I'm not hugely interested in 1900s political/military history. I'm much more interested in all the old temples and castles around SK, so we didn't get up to the border. Looked amazing as an experience, but just didn't fit it in our itinerary ahead of other stuff.
I loved SK, but having been to Japan first I'd give that the edge, Tokyo remains my favorite city I've ever been to. For me SK is kind of like a slightly scaled back Japan.
We stayed in Seoul seperate parts of the trip, once in Insadong which was amazingly central and walking distance or a short subway to a huge number of sites and activities, and then at the end we stayed in Gangnam which was a bit of a foodie experience for us, we went to a couple of great restaurants and did a bit of shopping there.
Did a day trip to Suwon, stayed in Busan for 5 nights and flew to Jeju island where we drove around for a few nights. Jeju was beautiful, amazing coastal scenery, and filled with a whole bunch of random tourist attractions like Loveland, heaps of Golf courses, lot's of theme parks and museums.
Busan our immediate surroundings were awesome staying in Seomyong, but when we had to venture out from our local suburbs, it was much harder to get around than Seoul.
Great trip would only go again as a first timer though, as having explored a decent chunk of the country though I'm happy to cross it off the list. Don't feel the need to go back at this stage, because we were quite active and fit a heap of experiences into the trip.
Give me a snapshot of what you are planning and I'll add and substract stuff from there.
We are going back to Malaysia in three weeks time.
KL one week with a flight to Cambodia and back for a few days
3 weeks Panang
Not do too much just hang around eat and look
3 weeks Penang is way too long.
How many days in total are you planning to be away and is this purely a holiday or is there some work stuff in there too ??
I like to go places for a month and not move too much
I treat it as a zen month of avoiding reality
You get a feel for the place, find a few favourite restaurants, go see some cheap films, work out at the gym, eat a buffet breakfast, have a swim in the pool drink a few beers every night.
Dont want a resort as I will be paying top dollar for western food or catching taxis to try and find local food or the cinema.
I still need access to some western food when Im bored of local food though.

We are in Singapore at the moment at the arse end of an 8 day trip. For a place that is bigger than Sydney but smaller than Canberra in terms of population/size respectively, it is remarkably efficient. You could spend a few weeks here comfortably depending on what it is you want to do.
Me personally, I like just smashing piss and relaxing. The missus and kids like to do things that involve a lot more stress. You can find a happy medium here.
Spent a lot of time at Santosa island with its beaches, water park, and universal studios, the night safari at the zoo was superb, the food is unbelievably diverse and simply awesome - I’ve had everything from tepanyaki cooked less than a foot from my face to genuine Indian, Hooters battered chicken, and $0.50 hawkers skewers with everything in between, shopping is decent, and I even went with the missus for one of those pedicures where the fish eat your dead skin.
Aside from the frankly ****ing offensive weather, I’d recommend it to anyone.
Oh and I got a tattoo and the artist was more hygienic than any I’ve seen elsewhere

Hmmm a bit on the expensive side but only compared to other holiday destinations I think. Prices on most things are pretty comparable to Australia...... except piss unfortunately for me.
Cheapest beers we found at Clarke Quay last night were $35 buckets of 5 Buds at an Indian place. Hooters I think had 5 coronas for $40 when we went there a bit later.

Yeah we were staying at a place called thanksgiving apartments on river valley road, about 10 minutes walk from the Quay. Just got home to Australia tonight. The hawker stalls were good but I couldn’t eat there all the time I don’t think

Good spot. I live about 5 mins from there on River Valley.
And yeah, I couldn't eat at hawker stalls all the time either. I rarely do. Not the healthiest food.
Beer buckets and towers are popular here because they're better value. I'm not a fan though because the beer gets warm if there's only a couple of you drinking.

So i am going to be on holiday and child free in january for a week. But my gf cant get time off work. So i want a quick holiday and thinking about vietnam. But also happy to try anywhere really (warm so not europe and usa).
Anyone travelled solo? Anyone gone with like intrepid travel and their holidays? They have kayaking cycling walking adventures for example.
So i am going to be on holiday and child free in january for a week. But my gf cant get time off work. So i want a quick holiday and thinking about vietnam. But also happy to try anywhere really (warm so not europe and usa).

I would pick somewhere interesting and just stay there and do day trips from there.
