Am I the only one who gets pissed off at people (family members, friends, neighbors) who just casually drop in unannounced and stay for 5 or 6 hours straight and just sit there and watch TV.

I was just about to put season 3 of Mad Men and settle in for a quality afternoon of TV and then around 1:15pm my sister and her husband drop in. I've dropped enough hints for them to go home, in fact I've left them to talk to my partner and i've come onto the computer.

They do it every week, and even though she is my sister, i don't enjoy her company, so i don't care to talk to either of them. I want to scream at them to go the **** home.

Am I considered a rude if I do tell them, if so, how can i polity tell them. It's also a public holidays so i cannot just say, I've got somewhere to go. They will be here until 7 o'clock if not latter being Saturday night.

Gone, now lets here your stories on how you've dealt with horrible visitors who have stayed way to long.

They just went home. Now this thread can be turned over to you, to tell your horror war stories grading terrible visitors.

1:15pm - 4:25pm

Leaving the room and hitting the computer or doing something else might not be the answer. You could be just reinforcing their notion that you are comfortable with them around, that they are just part of the household.

Maybe you need to engage them in awkward, stilted conversations with a lot of long pauses, in order to make them feel uncomfortable enough to leave.

Either that or sit on the couch and openly masturbate in front of them.

Be somewhere else this time next week.

Oh for the love of humanity and my ability to watch the football, the time they come over isn't the same every week. I would've said something long ago if they dropped over at 1:30 pm on a Saturday afternoon.

try having a newborn baby.

"oh we just thought we'd pop in to see the little bundle of joy. where is he?"

"well, we've just spent the last two hours trying the get the little bundle of joy to stop screaming and he's finally gone to sleep"

"ok ill just peek in on him. he's so cute" *pokes baby*

waaaahhhhhhhhh

bastards.

Oh for the love of humanity? You're the one seeking advice.....

You sound like a great brother and family member to have. Must be hard to have siblings that like to spend time with you. Here's a tip, lighten up and try to enjoy their company instead of carrying on like a petulant and rude little child.
You'll never know when you'll need the support of friends and family.

If you don't enjoy their company then every time they come round have a chat for half an hour then tell them to piss off so you can watch Mad Men. They will come to think that you are a **** and stop wanting to spend time with you, and that is when you win.

we had an extra 2 people turn up for Christmas dinner.every sit was taken we normally have 2 dinner tables for the Christmas lunch/dinner.anyway the misuses was a bit shitty they turned up.so l just went and dusted of some stable tables l found in the shed.the only thing l was a bit shitty about was they brought prezzies for some people but not us but they ate our food and drunk our drink.

If you aren't comfortable talking to your sister about it (and really, she's your sister - you should be) every time they show up, just say "actually, we're just on our way out". Do it repeatedly until they get the hint that they need to call ahead.

Otherwise bitch to the parents about it and get your mum to lay the guilt trip on her.

Now thats ordinary & just plain rude. Were they friends of relatives or something or someones inlaws?

At one stage we would turn off the TV and the lights and hide in a bedroom until the uninvited visitor left. Eventually the bloke from the Salvos took the hint and left us in peace. ;)

It was the Christmas drop-in which really got me though. Distant family friends who just happen to be driving past your house around mid-afternoon. Not quite rude to appear at lunch, but rude enough to help themselves to the left over turkey and ham.

They would of course come with a pissweak present - a bottle of Pepsi, or if you were really lucky a small box of Favourites chocolates.

Not like I'm bitter or anything.

Wait a minute... it has taken 12 years for this thread to get started on BigFooty.:p

In all seriousness I also find it annoying that people-familiy/friends- drop in unannounced. However when they are there make them feel comfortable, offer them some sustenance and/or some form of beverage, and in your situation watch Mad Men S3 with them it might make it more interesting and entertaining that way.

I hope this helps

Just grab your missus and shag the shit out of her in front of them (pics or it didnt happen). I did it once, never seen nan since. Win/win :thumbsu:
