Voss and Black to face assault charges.

I really hope they were not a part of the assault, it's ruining my perception of them being PERFECT.

Michael Bosscher, who is the solicitor for Voss and Black, said in a statement the two men were disappointed with the decision to lay charges.

"They emphatically deny the allegations and look forward to the opportunity of defending themselves in court."

Vipertooth, that was very negative of you. I was hoping this thread would die.

I haven't met Vossy (must remedy that sometime), but I can assure you that Blacky is the perfect gentleman.

I find it impossible to belive that Blacky or Voss wold get into a bar fight, let alone kick them while they are down! I belive these charges are absoulute BS!

can I just say I am sickened by this entire incident but what makes me even more sickened is the attitude of posters who say someone deserved it, etc etc. Violence is reprehensible no matter what the provocation. Vossy's hero status has been changed in my eyes to a certain degree by seeing this footage. I simply do not accept any excuses for violence. I may be in the minority but so what, it is this prevailing of attitude that these sort of brawls happen all the time, the guy deserved it for chucking a pool ball in the first place, the punch wasn't that hard etc. Bullplop as far as I am concerned.

You are entitled to your opinion, I have stated mine on the main board.

I support Vossy 100% here, he was just doing what mates do. Unwritten male law. Just because the bloke cried foul doesn't mean it is a heinous act. I can practically guarantee footy players get into this situation alot, and many will solve it like Voss and co did. Moreso 10-15 years ago, but even today, its a small town up here and I know of Lions and Broncos players that have stood up for mates in the city in a similar vein.

well I am stepping out of this discussion for a while, unfortunately have to read all comments with mod hat on so keep it legal please people.

I am disappointed that so many people vindicate violence, deem it acceptable and consider it what "mates do". If this is what defending your "manhood" is about then a) I am glad I am not a man and b) I don't care if my man is not considered a man by his mates if he doesn't get involved in a fight.

I don't think anyone vinidcates violence at all.

I think people can understand how it happened, a totally different thing.

I also think that females can never understand mateship. A lot feel threatened by it, hate their partner having mates who interfere in their time with said partner. But mateship is a an essential part of being a male.Sticking up for a mate is part of that.

I'm not a violent man by any stretch of the imagination. I've thrown connecting punches (not counting sparring) a grand total of three times. Once was when I was kinghit during a match, once was when an opposition player kicked a teammate in the balls and the other time I was at a concert when this guy was acting like a porkchop and injuring my female friends. Me and my mates had the good fortune/sense to never get into a fight while out on the town.

It's not about violence, it's about sticking up for your mates. When you play footy your teammates are like brothers. Likewise close mates. It's about standing up for yourself and letting them know what's acceptable behaviour. It's unfortunate, but the only thing they understand is the same action back at them. If there were another way to teach them a lesson that'd be good, but so far no one has been able to suggest another method, especially where alcohol is involved.

If I was in Vossy's shoes I would popped the guy too. I don't support violence, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

As long as the response is proportional to the conduct of the original attacker, then I have no problem, legally or morally. I agree that there is a responsibility to protect your mates, particularly if it is an unprovoked or unwarranted attack. I would do the same for my wife or the rest of my family so it is not just a "mates" thing.

Edit: I should say that I haven't seen the footage so am making only a general comment on the point being debated on this thread.

Why do the likes of Voss and Black hang out with that lowlife Lawrence. He has been busted drink driving on more than one occassion. He has been involved in nighclub fights before( i think with gehrig as well)

He rings up former teammate Akermanis when drunk to stir crap. I think i read somewhere that Brown wants to punch his lights out...Why socialise with these sorts of people honestly.

I wonder why they now release the footage. It just means a whole heap of people are going to start making judgements without having all the facts at hand. Perhaps it would have been better to wait until after the sentences have been handed down, so the media can present the whole story.

I don't condone violence, i consider myself a man's man, what vossy did doesn't look good when taken out of context. Context is the vital part of defending Vossy's reputation. A bloke threw a billiard ball at your great mate, you know that could of killed him, a small and brief brawl erupts with haymakers thrown, the bloke gets escorted out and is probably mouthing off, Vossy ( i think ) decides this isn't good enough, follows them outside and gives this bloke a decent love tap on his chin. (PROBABLY HOPING THE BLOKE REMEMBERS IT NEXT TIME HE IS OUT AND OUT OF LOYALTY TO HIS MATE) If vossy was out of control, stricken with rage or a thug, that first punch would of been the start of a vicious attack. Vossy landed one and it was over for him. He didn't put his full weight behind it and it was a controlled punch. It never looks good someone being hit and the head and i don't condone it. I am also not willing to crucify him for what many rational and peaceful men would of done themselves.

I cant believe some of the BS on that Main Board about Voss I will say this though one of you have got guts thats all I can say I was reading that thread most of last night and there was someone from this board taking on about 10 of those "People" defending I think they went a little too far though and got Red Carded I just cant think of thier name off the top of my head though. I was gonna add my 2 bobs worth in but thought better of it because some of the things written on that board were below the belt calling Voss scum etc etc.

Re: Voss pub brawl CCtv footage

just in case you haven't seen it, here's the CCtv footage so judge for yourself:

http://media.brisbanetimes.com.au/?rid=29784

he looks pretty guilty. there's always trouble wherever Lawrence goes. I would have thought Voss would have been smart enough to avoid thugs like Gherig and Lawrence.

I'm sure we have all seen it enough ok?

Re: Voss pub brawl CCtv footage

Mitigating circumstances?
Self-defense?

The law is very complicated. Generally if a lawyer has advised their client to plead not guilty, there's a reason for it.
