Not quite what was meant. Theres a temporary stand next to the scoreboard called the scoreboard stand

Yeah.....having been in it before on a hot day it's not something i'd wish upon anyone. You get smashed by the sun right in your face and because it's almost entirely steel the whole thing heats up like an oven and you cop it from underneath as well.

Imagine sitting on a frypan.

The WACA & WAFC continue manoeuvring but why ....

The WACA and WA Football Commission want to build a joint administration and training facility at the ground.

But 25 years after the WACA successfully resisted a bid by football to have a formal role in the management of the cricket ground, chief executive Christina Matthews revealed that the winter sport would have unprecedented influence over the WACA if the joint facility was built.

The two sports were already working together through their joint co-location engagement committee, which is chaired by former West Coast chairman Mike Smith and includes Ms Matthews and her WAFC counterpart Gavin Taylor, WACA president Ken Michael and board member Darren Wates and football commissioner Cheryl Edwardes.

“We have jumped ahead to formalise what will happen if we do go ahead and co-locate,” Ms Matthews said. “This is the committee that would manage the ground together. We have brought that forward, so we are moving in the same direction.”

Why? Because the WAFC doesn't want to pay rent to have offices at the Perth Stadium but wants a high quality ground to base their stuff (including presumably state squads etc) and the WACA wants to keep the WACA and to get the money they need a combined front.

Its politics thru & thru.

A bit of nostalgia thanks to the Lost Perth facebook page.

The WACA in 1977:

The Inverarity stand and the scoreboard are the only things still standing.

Does anyone have any photos of the WACA in AFL configuration? It's hard to make out how it looked from youtube footage.

Just as you would imagine the picture above, the goal posts at the far ends along the long axis and the grandstands along the wing.

This is what it looks like now (taken from the other side)"

This pic was taken during a cricket game but it's before the grass banks were built...just visualise some AFL posts at either end and thats what it looked like for AFL.

Has there been any work on any future plans for the ground?

work in progress:

Dont get your knickers in a knot over the accounting write down, as happened at Subi:
The decision to take a dose of accounting reality drove the WACA to a full-year loss of $14.2 million, compared with 2016-17’s operating surplus of $35,000.

The headline loss blotted an otherwise strong year for the association. Revenue was up more than $6 million to $36.7 million compared with the previous year, courtesy of bumper catering income and ticket sales.

The figure was bolstered by the inclusion of a $1.1 million grant which had been classified as deferred income. Membership fees came to $4.1 million, up from $3.5 million.

Expenditure ballooned by more than $5 million to $34.2 million. The lion’s share of the increase came from higher costs of running games. Cricket operations cost just under $19 million, up $3.3 million.

At June 30, the WACA had $14 million in cash, up $1.2 million.

Are most people keeping their membership heading to the new stadium? Keep seeing people saying theyre going to drop their membership due the ball tampering saga but find that hard to believe.

Dunno but the members facilities at Optus are top notch. They're advertising memberships at $400 a year and if that gets you into the members (which I assume it does) then that's pretty good value.

I have renewed my membership for this summer but certainly had second thoughts about it.

That would be a single membership without the guest pass.
It’s a further $350 for the guest pass.
$750 total.
It’s cheaper if you are a country member.

Apparently theres no waitlist at the moment. So if you sign up you'll be straight into the members for this season.
Not correct.
The WACA had to increase their membership levels for the move to the new stadium, so anyone on the wait list at 30 June got offered a membership.

You can join the wait list now for $50 but you won't get offered a membership until next years intake.

Thats alright then (doesnt affect me as I'm already a member). Just heard someone talking about it and thought it was strange that they'd be able get rid of the whole waitlist process even with the new stadium. That makes more sense though.

Last week my siblings and I bought a WACA membership for the old man for his birthday.

He was never on the wait list and he went straight in, possibly because of previous years members not renewing and after an Ashes summer that wouldn't surprise me.

Could well be as the membership renewal cut off was 30 September.

When I spoke to them in July they were not offering any new memberships so it will be interesting to see how many didn't renew.
