Week one of the finals produced a few good games with at least one game in each grade proving to be a close match across the weekend. Scores ranged from zero to five this week with getgaff proving to be the week's top tipster in selecting five winners across the three grades. The bonus point winners were Monocle and getgaff who were both closest to the margins on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

After week one of the finals, getgaff has the lead on six points with a group of tipsters all tied on four points.

Week two of the finals sees us move on to the semi finals with matches split between Saturday and Sunday once again. There are two margin matches this week, one League match and one in the Colts so margins will be required for both games.

The Second Semi Final gets things underway on the weekend with the League game between West Perth and East Fremantle on Saturday afternoon at Pentanet Stadium in Joondalup. West Perth finished Season 2022 on top of the ladder with a 13-4-1 record and a percentage of 137.97%, just ahead of East Fremantle who were half a game behind in second place boasting a percentage of their own of 137.49%. West Perth have played some very good football at times this season and were the competition's third highest scoring team, averaging very close to 80 points per game as they spent the vast majority of the season inside the top few spots on the ladder, eventually doing enough to claim the minor premiership and the all important week off in the first week of the finals. East Fremantle also played some good footy throughout the season and a strong last few games saw them claim second place before proving too strong for Claremont last week in the Qualifying Final. Old Easts have the competition's best forward line in terms of points scored with an average of 88.22 points per game so scoring has not been an issue for the Sharks this season. With two of the competition's best forward lines going up against each other this week, this game is sure to be a cracking affair with a spot in the Grand Final at stake for both clubs on Saturday afternoon. This match begins at 2:10pm and can be viewed on the AFL website via streaming with radio telecasts to be finalised later in the week.

The League First Semi Final takes place on Sunday with Claremont to host Peel Thunder at Revo Fitness Stadium in what is one of our margin matches this weekend. The Tigers had a pretty poor game against East Fremantle last week, falling behind early as they trailed by nine points. East Fremantle could have put the game away in the second term but 3.6 to Claremont's 1.0 kept the Tigers in the match as the Sharks increased their lead to 29 points at the main break. Three goals early in the third term saw the margin blow out to 47 points and the match seemed as good as over. But the Tigers flipped the match completely, booting 4.6 while keeping the Sharks scoreless for the remainder of the term to roar back into the contest to trail by 17 points with one quarter to play. That was as close as Claremont would get though as the match turned around again with East Fremantle booting six goals to one in the last term as the Tigers went down by 48 points. Peel Thunder take on Claremont this week having come up against South Fremantle in the Elimination Final a couple of days ago. Souths dominated the opening half, in particular the first term but wasted several opportunities with 2.6 in the first term and then 2.3 in the second. Peel went goalless in the first quarter but two crucial goals in the second term kept them in the game to trail by 16 points at the long break. The Thunder made their move in the third term kicking six goals, including three in little more than three minutes to find themselves in the lead by seven points at three quarter time, a complete contrast to how the first half had played out. The Bulldogs hit back early in the last with two goals courtesy of two free kicks seeing them regain the lead before Peel responded with two goals of their own, the second of which at the 23 and a half minute mark making the task for South Fremantle too difficult in the end. This match is shaping up to be a big one with Claremont looking to rebound from their defeat last week while Peel Thunder will be hoping to continue their momentum with another win but will have to do so with less AFL listed players this week with the restrictions now to be applied with their AFL aligned club out of the finals. This match gets underway at 2:10pm on Sunday as part of the double header telecast this weekend.

In the Reserves, West Perth host Claremont in the Second Semi Final on Saturday at Pentanet Stadium with this game to begin at 11:35am. West Perth have played well in the Reserves this season and enter the finals as the form team of the competition with a 14-2 record and having won their last 12 games in a row. Claremont finished the season in second place on the ladder and spent a good portion of the season on top before being overtaken by the Falcons in the latter part of the season. The Tigers won a pretty tight game last week, coming from a goal down at three quarter time to kick five goals in the last term and claim victory over the Bulldogs by 13 points to setup their match with the Falcons. The First Semi Final has South Fremantle facing Subiaco at Revo Fitness Stadium at 9am on Sunday morning. Souths were right in it against Claremont last week, they trailed the Tigers at quarter time and half time but three goals to one saw the Dogs take the lead at the final change by six points and with momentum behind them. That momentum faded in the last term as the Tigers kicked five goals to consign the Bulldogs to a 13 point defeat. Subiaco meanwhile had to had play Swan Districts in the Elimination Final and started brightly with four goals to one in the first term before doing the same again in the second to hold a 42 point lead at half time. The second half was a cruise for the Lions as they added another eight goals, while holding Swans to only five for the entire game to run 73 point winners. Both Reserves' games look pretty good with the top four from the season to fight it out in the semi finals this week.

In the Colts, West Perth host Peel Thunder in the Second Semi Final on Saturday starting at 9am. West Perth have had a good season in the Colts, finishing on top of the ladder with a 12-4 record, claiming the minor premiership on percentage ahead of Peel Thunder. The Thunder took on Subiaco on Saturday and controlled the opening three terms, steadily increasing their lead by around a goal in each term to hold a three goal lead going into the last quarter. But Subiaco hit back with four very late goals threatening the Thunder deep into the last term before the siren sounded as Peel won by four points. Both sides finished with a 12-4 record so get set for a cracking semi final here between these two clubs. The First Semi Final takes place on Sunday which is also our first margin match of the day between Subiaco and South Fremantle. Subiaco lost narrowly to Peel Thunder last week, having kicked four late goals to get within four points of the Mandurah based side before time ran out on Saturday. The Lions will be keen to atone for that as they face South Fremantle who upset East Perth on Sunday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. The match was neck and neck for the first three quarters with the sides split by no more than three points at each of their first three breaks during the game. But Souths broke the game open in the last term, booting five unanswered goals to keep their season going for another week. The game between Subiaco and South Fremantle is also the first of TV games on Sunday with the telecast getting underway at 11:30am on Channel Seven with bouncedown scheduled for 11:35am.

The weather this weekend is fairly mixed after what was a pretty wet day today and a wet night last night. Saturday is set to be sunny with a maximum of 22 degrees forecast while Sunday may see a shower or two with a maximum of 20 degrees. There shouldn't be too much rain on Sunday with only a 50% chance of showers and any rain should be between 0-1mm.

Well the Semi Finals are here with the games on the weekend to help decide who will be the first side into the Grand Finals in each grade and we'll also see another contender drop out this week too. The Semi Finals produced a couple of good games but the majority were fairly one sided and despite that the round proved to be a bit tricky to tip with scores ranging from two to six this week. The top tipsters for week two of the finals was yours truly, tipping the card with all six games selected correctly. The bonus points this week went to hansie and Freezin who were the closest to the margin in each of the respective games.

After two weeks of the finals series, there's myself on top of the leaderboard with 10 points while AsterixTheGaul and Freezin sit tied for second on nine points.


Finals Tipping Competition - Week Three Fixtures

Week three of the finals series is here with the preliminary finals for all three grades to take place on Sunday at New Choice Homes Park which is also the King's Birthday long weekend.

The League game finishes the day with a 2:10pm start and is the sole TV game this week. East Fremantle gave it their best against West Perth in the Second Semi Final last week and certainly took it right up to the Falcons. Scores were level at quarter time thanks to the Falcons' errant kicking at goal before they took the lead over Old Easts gradually across the next two terms to open up a 13 point lead at the final change. The Sharks then had goal kicking issues of their own in the last term, booting 1.5 to 3.0 as they suffered a 20 point defeat which perhaps could have been different had things gone a little better in front of goal in the final term. Nonetheless, the Sharks have a second chance and face Claremont in the Preliminary Final for the second time in this finals series having beaten them by 48 points in the Qualifying Final just a couple of weekends ago. Claremont proved to be too good for Peel Thunder on Sunday and controlled the game for the most part aside from a period in the second term where the Thunder kicked three goals in a four minutes. That was as close as the Thunder as the Tigers romped away after that, finishing with a big 59 point victory. This game is shaping up to be a cracking match as the Sharks look to rebound and have a second crack at West Perth while Claremont come into this game with renewed confidence and will be looking to turn the tables of their result in the Qualifying Final a couple of weeks ago. The telecast of this game gets underway at 2pm on Channel Seven with bouncedown scheduled for 2:10pm.

In the Reserves, Claremont host Subiaco in the Reserves' Preliminary Final for the third straight season this coming Sunday. Claremont started very well against the Falcons in the Second Semi Final, holding an eight point lead at the opening break and went into half time just two points in arrears. The second half though did not go well, Claremont kicked just one goal in the third quarter and were held goalless in the last term as the Falcons booted nine goals in the final two quarters to claim a 55 point victory. Subiaco come into this game with a strong win over South Fremantle after what was also a tight opening term in the First Semi Final. The Bulldogs held a two point lead at half time but the Lions kicked five goals in the second term to the Bulldogs' two to open up a 19 point lead at half time. The Lions kept control of the contest in the second half, adding a further seven goals to the Dogs' three to finish with a 43 point win. The last two preliminary finals between both Claremont and Subiaco have finished at 1-1 so the winner here will take the lead in that little contest but more importantly earn themselves a Grand Final berth in what promises to be an entertaining affair that gets underway at 11:35am.

In the Colts, Peel Thunder take on Subiaco in the Preliminary Final, a repeat of the match in the Qualifying Final just two weeks prior. Peel Thunder endured a dour slog against West Perth on Saturday in the Second Semi Final, the Falcons kept the Thunder goalless in the opening half but three goals to none in the third term saw the Thunder come right back into the contest to trail by only four points at the final break. Peel booted the next two goals to take the lead in the last quarter but the Falcons hit back with two goals of their own to eventually claiming a nailbiting four point win. Subiaco took on South Fremantle in the First Semi Final on Sunday with the match being one-sided right from the opening bounce. Subiaco kept Souths scoreless in the first quarter while kicking 5.2 and then booted 8.1 in the second term to Souths' solitary behind which gave Subiaco a whopping 81 point lead at half time. Another five goals followed in the third term before the Lions kicked three more in the last to annihilate the Bulldogs by 118 points. The Qualifying Final produced a cracking finish just a couple of weeks ago and this match is shaping up to be another one as well with these two sides to battle it out in the morning on Sunday from 9am.

The weather for Sunday is looking reasonable with a possible shower and a maximum of 18 degrees forecast at this stage. Any chance of rain is only a 30% chance presently with 0-0.4mm of rain predicted at the moment so it is looking like it will be a reasonable day weather wise.

Well, no more second chances here as we enter the third week of the finals. It's the real business end of the season with the winners to claim a Grand Final berth while for the loser it is season over for 2022. There's plenty to like about the games we've got this week so hopefully there's no rain on Sunday on what should be a great day for footy. Happy tipping!! :thumbsu:

Preliminary Final Day proved to be somewhat difficult to tip with scores ranging from zero to two while no-one managed to tip all three games correctly this week. Monocle scored the bonus point for being closest to the margin and finishes with a score of two for the round.

After week three of finals, it's a three way for first place between AsterixTheGaul, Freezin and myself on 11 points while there's another three way tie for equal fourth place one point behind on 10 points.


Finals Tipping Competition - Week Four Fixtures

After five and a half months, we've reached Grand Final Day which will be held at Leederville Oval this year as the Grand Finals for all three grades take place on Saturday. It's a bumper day for the WAFL with two games on TV and all eyes will be on WA with this week's games the last of any of the national or state league fixtures until next year!

In the League Grand Final, West Perth face Claremont to decide the winner of the 138th WAFL Premiership. Each club has taken a different road to get there this year with West Perth having finished on top of the ladder and winning their Second Semi Final against East Fremantle a couple of Saturdays ago to go straight through to the Grand Final. Claremont meanwhile had bit more of a tougher road to the Grand Final having finished the season third after the home and away rounds. The Tigers lost their Qualifying Final against East Fremantle before knocking over Peel Thunder in the First Semi Final and then faced up to East Fremantle again in the Preliminary Final. The Tigers turned the tables in the Preliminary Final on Sunday, knocking off the Sharks to win through to their second Grand Final in three years. Neither of these clubs have tasted premiership success recently, West Perth's last premiership was in 2013 while their last Grand Final was in 2019. Claremont's most recent flag was in 2012 while their most recent Grand Final was two years ago in 2020 so both clubs go into this game desperate to win the flag and snap somewhat of a drought. This match also has the added spice in that West Perth's current coach in Darren Harris was sacked as coach of Claremont just two years ago after the Tigers' loss in the 2020 Grand Final, a move which surprised many. While West Perth enter the match as favourites, they haven't beaten Claremont this year with the Tigers 2-0 against the Falcons so far in 2022, further adding to the intrigue of the match. With either side in pretty good form heading into this game, it's sure to be a cracker of a game on Saturday. Bouncedown is at 3pm on Channel Seven with this fixture one of two margin matches on Saturday.

In the Reserves Grand Final, West Perth take on Subiaco in what is the opening game on Saturday with a morning fixture at Leederville Oval. West Perth finished on top of the ladder in the Reserves and won through to the Grand Final having comfortably beaten Claremont by 55 points in the Second Semi Final. Subiaco have had to slug it out in this year's finals series, having finished fourth at the end of the qualifying rounds. The Lions thrashed Swan Districts by 73 points in the Elimination Final before posting a 43 win over South Fremantle in the First Semi Final. Subiaco then took on Claremont in the Preliminary Final on Sunday and bizarrely beat the Tigers by 39 points despite having 24 fewer inside 50's! West Perth are 2-0 in their matches against the Lions in the Reserves this season but Subiaco have pushed West Perth both times so this could prove to be a good game to start the day on Saturday. Bouncedown for this game is at 8:50am and is being broadcast by Streamer at streamer.com.au.

In the Colts, West Perth take on Peel Thunder in the Grand Final in a first vs second match-up. The Falcons finished the 2022 season on top of the ladder and had a narrow win over Peel Thunder in the Second Semi Final to earn a spot in the Grand Final this season. Peel Thunder have had three very close games so far this finals series and would have no doubt given their fans some nervous moments in that time. The Thunder claimed a narrow four point win in the Qualifying Final against Subiaco in the first week of the finals before losing by that same margin to West Perth in the Second Semi Final just a couple of Saturdays ago. Peel then faced up to Subiaco again in the Preliminary Final on Sunday and managed to come away 10 point winners in what was another close affair. West Perth lead 2-1 against Peel Thunder this season with the Second Semi Final the only close game between the two sides, let's hope that Saturday's fixture will also be a close game between the top two teams this season. Channel Seven's coverage of the day begins at 11:30am with bouncedown for the game at 11:40am.

The weather has been very good for the past few days and is set to continue all week as things start to warm up here in the west. Saturday is forecast to be sunny with a maximum of 27 degrees, a warm day for those on the field but pretty good as a spectator in what should no doubt be a great day.

Well, after a 20 round season plus finals, it all comes down to this with the Grand Finals in the WAFL to take place this Saturday. All three games are looking like good contests and the weather is set to be great on what should no doubt be a fantastic day for footy! Happy tipping!!
