Ive been away for a while and haven't seen him play. I notcied he had 10 tackles in the game vs geelong.. How is he coming along?
Are we looking at a solid preformer here?

I live in the UK so don't see many games, but caught todays one and he was a stand out for me. Very tough kid, good in close and makes good desicions.

just such a tough kid isnt he? very strong in close and uses it well on the outside, all the makings of a very good midfielder

Terrific game from Cal Ward. He could always find the ball, but every week he is getting better at breaking tackles and disposing of the pill. Something really special in that boy. :thumbsu:

Ward really impressed me, such aggression and hunger for the ball is great to see in such a young talent, gonna be an awesome player IMO, congrats on tonight.

Wards attack at the contest is uncompromising. He and Picken have been the two ingredients in this years team that have made them much better than 2008 - a hard as nails midfielder and a tagger.

...and Reid's not bad either!

Anyone happen to have a comparison on stats between Ward and Rich?

Ward:
Games: 18
Kicks: 7.6
H/balls: 8.4
Disposals: 16.1
Marks: 2.9
Tackles: 4.2
Goals: 0.8
Inside 50s: 2.9
GAs: 0.2

Rich:
Games: 20
Kicks: 10.2
H/balls: 7.6
Disposals: 17.8
Marks: 3.0
Tackles: 4.4
Goals: 0.6
Inside 50s: 4.6
GAs: 0.6

Wards' ability to run hard has improved; he knows when to try to break the tackle now; his disposal continues to improve; his intent and willingness to put his head over the ball is unquestioned; he seems popular with other players and is a team player, prepared to shepherd, bump and knock-on to other's advantage.

We are fortunate to have a quality kid like this on our list. Well done Clayton and well done Cal Ward!

I saw him early last year at Williamstown tackle a tough looking senior guy who was rolling on the ground in pain after Cal slammed him into the deck, he then proceeded to bend down and tell him how soft he was with a look of utter disdain on his face. From that moment I was preaching to everyone I could find about how good this kid is going to be. Mongrel like that is natural and cant be taught.
In the mould of Simon Black, here's hoping he reaches those heights!

Interesting to look back on Rockets comments about Ward at the start of the year and rocket said it was up to him, he needed to apply himself and get his attitude right. Seems that he has come along way from the start of the season.

Anyone with an inside knowledge have any thing to add as to why he has turned it around so much this year. Any mentors he has down their or a player/coach that has taken him under there wing. They deserve alot of credit also.

Well done Cal Ward, keep up the good work.
