Was Riewoldt truly concussed?

To all the idiots out there that dont realise that you dont need to be poleaxed to suffer a concussion.... pull your heads in!

Oh & Luke Ball tore his hammy off the bone & didnt return so he's fine for this week..... Ha... he's fine too!

Ducks & Drakes............ Smoke & Mirrors!!! :D

Who said that?

If it gained Saints an advantage by lulling Lake in to a false sense of security, good on Riewoldt for exploiting it. Look at Lake's face after the incident. He was almost in shock at the way Riewoldt was seizuring.

Looked definitely like a concussion to me, the direct tip of the elbow his him square in the temple. Possibly his level of adrenaline made him recover remarkably quick, i'm sure he's definitely feeling it now after the match. A year ago i would have said Jonathan Brown was the best CHF in the league, he's now been surpassed, unbelievable player

I'm tipping your doctor friend is a Psychiatrist and that you see him reguarly ..nobody with any grasp of reality would ever come up with something so absurd.

My mate has been studying the human brain for 30 years mate.

Up until now he still is yet to figure out what type of trauma causes helpless individuals to support Carlton but that's a whole other thread.:thumbsu:

He would've taken a blow to the brainstem disrupting nerve signals going down the spine.

Looks like a ******* for a few seconds, must've had tingles all over but the shock would've given him an adrenaline rush so he was all good.

These are cretins that are suggesting Roo "faked" it..... whatever! And if he fell for it shouldnt that make Lake (insert comment here)....

Jordan Lewis got creamed earlier in the year against the Dogs & there was little contact to the head, more just shock of impact & he was back within 10mins of it!

A clip with an elbow happens in NRL weekly, just look as Dallas Johnson................ And he's up making the next tackle next play!!!!

Terry Wallace faked it in the 83 Grand Final. Terrible piece of sportsmanship but it worked.

Didn't see the Dallas incident but Lewis did not start seizuring on the ground like Riewoldt did. Had remarkable similarities to Richard Osbourne incident a few decades back where the ambulance was driven on the ground to take him away.

Riewoldt has been practising convulsions behind closed doors for some months now. I had heard he was good at it but didn't know he was that good. Down at the club the call it "the convulsions move" and they had been thinking of rolling it out in the GF....obviously they felt it was needed earlier.

And to your imaginary friend....tell him he is a tosser.

Suggest u watch every State-of-Origin game from 2006-2009 cos I swear Dallas Johnson gets knocked out in at least 5 of the 12 games & gets back on within minutes.....

BTW, do you drink & if you do, do you drink heavily??? Cos Phil, if you do, there is just as much chance as brain damage, brain injury, dementia & alzeimers disease as footballers...

Im NO EXPERT but i work in many a nursing home occassionally! ;)

Thanks for stating some medical facts along with your justification. Doesn't shed any more light on the situation does it?

The only brain your mate should be studying is yours, You have definently got something going on in there, and its not good.

I'm basing this thread on what my mate saw sitting next to me when it happened. I can't comment on the Dallas situation and even if I saw it I wouldn't know medically what it means.

I don't drink heavily but if I did and started convulsing on the floor, I would expect my mates to take the beer out of my hand and ensure that nothing was spilt.

Just passing on what I heard but any convulsing of that magnitude has to be neurological, not an isolated muscle spasm. So in this case it is highly likely it is sever concussion...but interestingly with no side effects.

i'm going to disagree.

got had something turn my front wheel on my bike (pushie) last yr and it flipped me up in the air and i landed without forward momentum on my hip, didn't break it*, but spent 8 weeks on crutches and 4 of that in a massive amount of pain.

after i hit the ground, I convulsed for a bit (a lot tbh) from the pain and i didn't hit my head, just a neurological reaction to the pain.

*I did however really smash the muscles, tendons etc in that area. spent 6 weeks in physio. apart from the damage to the muscles etc i had also severely bruised the fat that protects the tendons from the hip joint as they run through that area and every movement was murderous. I was on 2 Nuerofen and 2 Panadol Forte every 4 hrs, with no effect. gave up after a week.

Concussion is certainly interesting, from my limited sports trainers course it is scary how it affects some players more than others, apart from the initial Brain movement it is the body reducing blood flow to other areas to manage the damaged area.Have seen some players spend a night in Casualty Vomiting from insignificant knocks to blokes who have had massive hits stagger around shake it off and keep going. The mysteries of the brain.

Do you want medical facts or people to believe your theory that he faked concussion and a spasm to get an edge on Lake?

From my experiences of being concussed/knocked-out playing footy, you can often get up and keep playing, but you really feel the effects in the days to come - headaches and dizzyness etc.

Your friend is no medical expert... if he even exists.

Anyone who has done some basic self-defense training would tell you that a moderate blow to the neck, below and slightly in front of the ear (and guess where Kosi's elbow connected?) will cause muscle spasms and put your opponent out of it for a couple of minutes. A sharper blow will cause actual unconsciousness. Don't believe me?

What medical facts. The only one who knows the medical facts is the doctor who attended him.

And no REAL doctor would attempt to make a diagnosis without an examination.

It's time to grow up and get some real friends.
