Wayne 'Duck' Carey - Come And Have A Go

I played in a charity cricket match with the Duck a few years back, he was kind of shy really. He was very keen to be involved and help out a good cause. Played the game in good spirit [even when the guy from big brother hit him back over his head and over the stand for one of the biggest sixes I have ever seen], had a couple of beers after the game and he went home. His misdemeanors are well documented but good luck to him if he can patch things up with North. He remains the best player I have ever seen.
Wayne is a product of his upbringing. The problem was he was blessed with good looks and an ability to do something better than the average Joe. Unfortunately, what he wasn't born with was too many brains. I think deep down he's probably a good bloke who didn't set out to hurt anyone. But the trouble is when you lead a life where people continually make excuses for your pitfalls, you start to depend on it. He'll always be welcome at North, and to some extent I think that's where he needs to be.

I thought he was as good as Carey?

Carey at 18 didn't miss targets. Would Franklin be able to go to CHB and destroy an absolutre champion like Stephen Kernahan? I doubt it. And physical hindsight won't cut it.

He's probably better. Just not as a set shot from about 30-40 metres out.

Physical hindsight? WTF are you talking about man?
In your little mix&match hypothetical world Buddy would destroy Kernahan and leave Duck in his dust. Stop talking shit.

He's been pwnt and everyone knows it.

I actually well rate Franklin and would like to be able to praise his skills.

everyone knows, that you speak shite ......

'I actually well rate Franklin and would like to be able to praise his skills.'

what a shocking effort from a so-called journo, your not a journo's quill :p

Yes, his defensive credential are so well established.

Who gives a shit? It's just a stupid make-believe scenario. I could say he'd burn him up with his laser vision and fly away to spend halftime at the Spearmint Rhino if a want to. It's only bullshit.

Well obviously, the whole Buddy vs Carey discussion is hypothetical, they never played on the same field at the same time.

But I'm glad to see you finally making some sense with the way you describe your previous assertion.

What I don't get is why most of the planks on here seem to take exception to having their favourite players compared to someone else, as if it's some sort of personal insult.

For Franklin to be compared to the likes of Carey is an honour, and it just shows he's going in the right direction in his Footballing career. If he is oneday ranked up there with the likes of Carey, Matthews and Ablett then I'll be a very happy man. And we'll have been a very successful club.

Are you trying to imply there's no way Buddy could beat Duck in fantasy land?
Coz that counts as bullshit too you know. And if you're really as earnest as you sound, it also outs you as a total flog.
Again.

So he's made a few mistakes, he's still an absolute champion of the game and in the top 5 players of all time.

That's good. I just hope it's a deeper relationship than a bit of lip service, some smiling for the camera's and a plaque unveiling. If he can actually reconcile with the team-mates he betrayed then good luck to him and good luck to them.

If this happens of course, it will be none of the publics business. Copping jibes about what he did is a cross he (and his fans) will have to bare forever more.

Doesn't mean you can't look back and enjoy his work though. He's the Mike Tyson of Australia.

Um.....no, I wasn't trying to imply that. What would be the point? Anything could happen in 'fantasy land'. You could even be smart and popular.

The comment I was referring to was your suggestion that Buddy could play CHB on a quality CHF like Kernahan & do a better job than Carey did. Mark73 was describing something that Carey did in fact do ; you replied that Buddy could do it better, which just struck me as a little desperate, seeing (to my knowledge) he has never actually played at CHB.

But carry on.

FFS jacko, you are a just a giant thankless pit for wasted effort, aren't you?

Mark said Buddy would have had no hope defending Kernahan(Buddy vs Sticks being a silly hypotheical 'fantasy-land' scenario of his own invention), so I said Buddy would smash Kernahan in 'fantasy land', a statement clearly intended as tongue in cheek. Hence when it became apparent you didn't take my point, I took the time to make it more obvious for you by citing 'lazer vision' and labelling the whole thing an exercize in bullshit. Pretty obvious stuff, but you couldn't resist taking the "bullshit" line, and warping it to imply I was admitting that saying Buddy would be able to defend Kernahan successfully was "bullshit". Obviously what you were doing, and I called you on that.
Now here you are, denying your idiot mistake and acting like because you eventually got my point, you must've been it's author. You're either an uncommonly literate imbecile or a senile person of about average intellect.
Why do you always insist on understanding 80% of a point only after having it repeated to you, and then stopping to wax smug like you've got the jump on an argument you only barely almost get? Like others need your mediocre thoughts explained to them?
As a people person, I find your panache for soliciting my contempt to be quite frustrating.

To put it in acronym form, my point is STFU because YaFI.

This seems to be the consensus on Carey.

There is NO defending some of his actions, most notably assaulting women.

However, anyone who expresses and more importantly demonstrates genuine regret and a desire to make amends should be given another chance and if the hierachy at North are willing to take Duck back, then that's good enough a reference for me.

Plenty of the supporters of other clubs - one in particular - would do well to wonder just how THEIR club would deal with a similar situation.

Much and all as how horrendous the Carey/Stevo thing was, I am still proud of how North reacted to that.

We did the right thing.

Some clubs, like shall we say Hawthorn, who accepted Simon Cox after he left Footscray, have issues with airing their dirty laundry.

Each to their own.

Go North and hopefully Duck can continue his rehabilitation and contribute to North doing well.

What??? It's hard to follow your delusional ramblings sometimes. It seems you actually do live in a fantasy world where you can imagine you are smarter than other people. It's sad, but if it helps you get through the day, go for it.........I guess it's better than reading one day that you went on a shooting rampage at your former place of employment.

J Hird - 22 kicks, 8 marks, 4 handballs, and Glenn Archer's jumper.

Not bad for a 34 year old...

pretty funny... i did laugh, but Hirdy WAS the only player in black and red that had a go that night!

Cant fault the bloke.

But this was the same night where 18 blokes watches Jesse Smith run from Southern Cross Station to kick a goal. He even had time to stop for a pot and pie in the Locker Room.

I think Hird was on the pine at this point....

I'm not sure what's more pathetic : your previous little 'STFU because YaFI' tanty, or this sad little rave.

I hope something goes right in your world this week, it might cheer you up.
