Bit of a coup for the Sixers

Former NZ Captain Susie Bates has also signed for the Sixers.

A little left field idea for the Sixers, I’d like to see them make Gardner Captain, with all the experienced players in the line up to assist her it would be a great learning experience and I think it could be the next step in her development, especially if she does have ambitions of Captaining Australia at some stage.

Georgia Voll has a massive future ahead of her, could be anything. Could have also been playing in the WNRL by now if she hadn't chose cricket.

Someone mentioned Bates had signed for Sixers. At the time of publishing from Cricket Australia, maybe they had a typo?

If Sixers have Bates, id imagine they would be even further stronger favourite.

The Sixers squad looks good on paper, but I thought last season's squad was pretty good too and they finished last. This season will depend on their batting line up, the performances of Healy and Gardner and where Perry sits in the order. If Healy can find her feet quickly, she and Susie Bates could be one of the more exciting opening partnerships in the WBBL this season. Gardner's finish to last season was terrible with four ducks in her last four innings, hopefully she can begin to show her international form (was the #2 ranked allrounder up to August) in the WBBL and Perry can continue in a similar vein as she did in the Hundred which was encouraging.

Cheatle's return last season was just about the only highlight, a left arm inswingers are unique in the women's game, there aren't too many around, so I hope she can replicate last season's performances. Who know a return to Green and Gold could follow, she is only 23 and has time on her side.

I'll be a little disappointed if Perry is made Captain this season, I really hope they give the Captaincy to Gardner and let her learn with all that experience and knowledge in the team to assist her.

An interesting article about Lauren Cheatle and the injuries that have stalled her career.

‘Fingers and toes crossed’: Sydney Sixers weapon Lauren Cheatle returns after fourth shoulder reconstruction

Unfortunately, the article has been blighted a little by an embarrassing mistake.

Despite boasting a squad packed with superstar talent, the Sixers finished bottom of the WBBL ladder last season with four wins from 14 matches, but they head into the competition’s eighth instalment with a plethora of bowling options,

Accompanying Cheatle is young gun Stella Campbell, reigning Belinda Clark Medal recipient Maitlan Brown and England spinner Sophie Ecclestone, the world’s No. 1 ranked T20 and ODI bowler.

Sometimes you have to laugh at the stupidity of Australian journalists these days.

Dunno about stupid, but he probably shouldn't assume the average reader/layman knows the significance of the Belinda Clark Medal.

Any attentive follower of women's cricket would be aware that it's different to the Belinda Clark Award, though.
