Was Knights the most influential import this season?

Thunder clearly a better side with her in it and they've absolutely missed her since she's returned to national duties
She is the reason why they made the Finals.

Without her, they dont make it.

Thunder looked too pleased with themselves at the change of innings posting 133. In reality against this Brisbane lineup in these conditions they were well, well short of the required amount.

Could understand be happy if you made 200 or something like that.

Knott and Redmayne get some valuable time in the middle too.

Jemimah's wrist is the most important wrist in Brisbane at the moment. I expect the BCCI to have a say in her availability for the final mind you.
She will be fine. It didnt look too serious on the field.

If your a neutral watching that game tonight, Thunder gave no fight. Their emotional energy was spent on Wednesday. And I also dont think too many of those girls would have played back to back , high-stakes games with the space of 2 days. The reality was they were cooked before they even stepped on the field tonight.

Brisbane on grand final day though, wont fall for the same trap as the Thunder. They will be ready, despite having a shorter turn around time. In fact, if the game does go to a Monday (reserve day), you think its probably an added advantage for Brisbane than the Gades.

And I say this, Brisbane will be fired up. Why? Because your playing at the MCG. If your not fired up for a Grand Final and/or playing at the MCG - then you will never be ready.

May the best team win on Sunday. (or Monday if it goes that far)

Brisbane won't bring out any excuses either if they lose, unlike some of these Thunder girls - who looked all too happy with their underpar 133 at the change of innings. That probably would have fired the Brisbane players up seeing that footage TBH.

Imagine if the Lions and Heat ladies go to Melbourne and take two pieces of silverware back with them back to Brisbane this weekend.
We would have to call QLD the sporting capital of Australia. That wouldnt sit too well with too many Vics.

The way the Thunder lineup has been put together, it really was never set up to win the WBBL title. Knight plays 80% (or a large proportion of the first half of the games). But deep down you kind of knew , once she left- the Thunder werent going to win it.

ST leading runscorers this season: Litchfield 342 in 12 games, Voll 330 runs in 12 games, Knight 226 in 6 games, Athapaththu 191 runs in 12 games. (Chamari strike rate was 89.67%) Middle to lower order runscorers (5th to 9th) all striking at less than 105% strike-that therein lies the problem. The middle order power hitters. Do understand that Drummoyne aint the easiest wicket to score from but the stats dont lie.

Unfortunately, I dont think you can pick Chamari as one of your top 2 imports. And who knows , I dont think she is a shoe-in for a WBBL contract next season. Such a big drop in batting from last season to this season.

And actually thinking about it a bit deeper. After Knight left the Thunder went: 3 wins, 1 no result , 2 losses.

Those wins were against: Perth (MCG), Melbourne Stars (wooden spooners) and Hobart (in the Elimination Final)

No result against Sixers- it was a lucky point for the Thunder as they were looking well beaten when rain came.

Two losses against: Beaten comprehensively by Renegades and Brisbane tonight (both with more than 4 overs to spare chased by those teams). So in a way, we have the right Grand Final , clearly the two best teams this season. Thunder finished 3rd but you wont get remembered for finishing 3rd in WBBL.

Last year, the Brisbane Heat lost their WBBL finals but the Lions ladies won their grand final. Maybe the reverse will happen this year with the Lions ladies losing their GF and the Heat win the WBBL final. Omens aside, I do think the Heat will beat the Renegades.

Teams for the Final:

Melbourne Renegades Women (Playing XI): Hayley Matthews, Courtney Webb, Sophie Molineux(c), Deandra Dottin, Georgia Wareham, Naomi Stalenberg, Nicole Faltum(w), Georgia Prestwidge, Sarah Coyte, Milly Illingworth, Charis Bekker

Brisbane Heat Women (Playing XI): Georgia Redmayne(w), Grace Harris, Jemimah Rodrigues, Charli Knott, Jess Jonassen(c), Laura Harris, Lauren Winfield-Hill, Lucy Hamilton, Shikha Pandey, Nicola Hancock, Grace Parsons

Fun watching the teams/Gades warming up - we were still doing a fair bit of fielding work & catching practice

It's Dottin's turn under the high ball - the first one well over her head for 6, so she stares down the coaching member. The second one she looks to have run in a bit too far but puts the one arm up and sticks the catch

She doesn't look hampered by that potential side issue from a week ago

Frustrating wicket with Webb just giving it away the last ball of the second over

We'd already taken 9 off the over and there was nothing in that shot of hers

Matthews is finding the middle of the bat and also the fielders - needs to keep her head & not do anything rash as she's someone who can quickly make up for a slow start
