We’re on a journey at Ophidian Old Boys FFC to champion diversity, inclusion and species belonging – understand what it means to our qooty team, other qooty teams and our wider BIGFOOTY community.

As Chancellor of Spotswood I always knew there was something special about the players who wanted to be Old Boys. Obviously the very name Ophidian Old Boys was a beacon to players who believed in progression, gender equality and species embracement, qooty players that wanted to be part of a progressive team pulling down the stereotypical biases shown by other teams.

It was also recognized by the OOB LG that if we wanted to continue our growth path we as SWEET FA leaders in species diversity needed to better understand unconscious species bias and what it means to nurture species diversity within Spotswood. Over the seasons we have had many players join us from other clubs who have told us of the relief it has been to escape the constant bullying, unconscious species bias, four legged hatred and whisker discrimination. Simple things like not providing drinking bowls at training, only having team shorts with 2 leg holes, being stared at while they eat their food with no hands, these are just some of the unconscious thoughtless actions done by clubs that make many qooty players feel uncomfortable and leave.

I have in the last 12 months received more applications to join Spotswood than we have ever had before. This tells me the SWEET FA is a long way off being an inclusive species qooty organisation, a place where species of all types can cohabitate and feel safe.

The exodus of current players and the inability of teams to attract new players will continue and end this competition, it's just a matter of time if teams don't change and embrace species diversity .

If teams need any advice or help in setting up a species inclusive program to plug the exodus of players leaving, please contact Spotswood's Head of Inclusion and Diversity BRAB.

The name “old boys” screams diversity and inclusion, great choice.

The fact that we are the only club with an inclusion and diversity program shows how far the league still needs to go in this area.

Isn’t it amazing that even a team labelled the Old Boys is more inclusive than most of the league? Really makes you think

Pfffft. Come back to me when your entire leadership group has species diversity.

Is this the Species Football Association? Time for the SPAM FL to fold and the PETS FL to take its place by the sounds.
