I don't see why the jump from band 2 top band 1 is doubled, surely they could insert a band in between and add a second/third rounder in for us? Adelaide and Dogs are getting screwed over imo, Ward/Davis may not be worth band 1 compensation but we definitely deserve higher than what we're currently getting.

Something along the lines of what we are getting plus a end of 2nd round pick would have been fair but this is no where near enough
If we try to tank. the AFL will ensure we win games on the back of crap umpire decisions. We could finish on top, and get ripped again in a prelim final, and get pick 20 something.
Unfortunately the only way to protest is turn up to away games in mass numbers, roll up your record like a vuvuzela, blow it non stop with your back turned to the game and annoy the crap out of everyone.
They would not stop selling records, would they. If they do i am sure you could make some kind of horn out of a plastic beer cup and a pie wrapper.
We must be the only club that does not have pictures of AFL people in compromising situations. Anyone know a P.I that owes them a favour.

This exactly, absolute rubbish that there isn't anything between 1 first rounder for band 2 and 2 first rounders for band 1.
Right now Ward is better than Scully and truck loads better than Davis, shiiit i don't even know who Phil Davis is. If there was a draft all over again Ward would not be pick 19.
Agreed two first rounders is too much for Ward.
Garlick must go on all types of media and to the AFL and demand at least a 3rd rd pick or a 2nd rd pick. Stuff the rules, go to every length, not once but over and over to get it.
Geelong did it last year, stand up doggies!!!
Now there is gonna be so much pressure on that pick to deliver a decent player.

Well in my opinion Bulldogs fans need to harden up. Ward's gone, we got this compo pick. MOVE ON. And if these so called supporters can't continue to support their team because the struggle well, that's pretty lame.
I support my team, rain, hail or shine.
I do not attack my football team or my players when they are struggling.
I do not continue to keep complaining about something that cannot be undone. Especially in football.
It's like arguing with an an umpire with a free kick. HE AIN'T GOING TO CHANGE HIS MIND!
Or perhaps the parking inspector who's writing you up a ticket, not much you can do there either.
I'm looking forward to who the next coach will be, who will be our delistings and any furthers retirements and who will we be drafting and trading for.

Its a fair point you make. But aren't you sick of us getting shafted somehow. We should be fighting all the way on and off the field. If the players put in a half assed effort, we criticise them. The same should goes for the administration. At very least come out demanding for us, the members and die hards. Show us that there is fight. At the end of the day we will be happy with that even if we don't get anything. We won't get anything if we don't ask 5 times.
Collingwood, Geelong have proved this, and look at them. Their supporters would be damn proud when Eddie says piss off AFL we won't be chaning our jumper. Or when Brian Cook says, a 1st rounder pick comp for Ablett, i don't think so AFL...

I don't understand why so many people are complaining that we should've ended up with something between 1st band and 2nd band compensation. That doesn't even make sense. We all knew (or should have known) what the Bands were valued at ages ago. We obviously were never going to get Band 1 when there was a Number 1 draft pick being paid $1mill+ a year in the mix. So why are people now shocked that we got Band 2? It was the only realistic option.
Now I agree that in the real world our compensation will be insufficient. We'll probably end up getting draft pick 4-7 for Ward. And frankly, he's better than that. But the guys who really got bent over were Melbourne (even though they got maximum compo). In reality they will probably end up getting something like picks 12 and 20 for a Number 1 draft pick who is a gun. If Scully doesn't have massive injury concerns they got ripped off worse than we did.
The whole GC/GWS situation sucks. There are no winners except those who avoid their poisonous touch.

18 actually, but otherwise you are correct. The compensation for Ward should have (at least) been equal to Scully - a 1st round pick and maybe a 2nd. Especially with Scully under an injury cloud.

Not so. The AFL has a sub-committee of two that reviews every compo decision before it is announced to make sure the method used didn't produce an anomalous result. This means they could have recommended that the WB receive say a 1st round and a 2nd round pick as fairer recompense for losing Ward.
On this occasion they clearly chose not to.
What's all this BS about "we should tank"? And what, end up like Melb? How about we MTFU and get on with it. We got what Ward is worth. No more, no less. He's been so overrated this year it's not funny. Tough player, average skills, average pace. No reason why we can't pick someone better with the compo pick.
We don't need to tank. We need to win. To get more members. Put money into facilities/development/recruiting. Another 1st rounder won't change much. Nor will losing Ward.

Spot on, and why is it that we get the compo ruling the day after Scully announces he is going, a week after Ward and god know how long since Davis came out.
If it's so straight forward we should have known our compo last Tuesday.
There is something very odd about all this.

I agree with what you say. Thers is no point not supporting the club over this issue. This is a time when the club needs it's membership to stay strong. But i think it's only fair that the club is seen to be doing all it can to get what is fair. I'm not sure they have. I don't know. The point is I'm not sure. I should be sure.
But let's face it the average footy fan has no voice. There is a players union, one for the coaches and we know the sponsors and media players have a massive voice.
But the average fan has no collective voice. No body to stand up and have a say in how the game is run. We in love the game so much we just cop it and the AFL knows we will.
It would be great to actually have a supporters collective that could be involved in the way the game is run, a collective with enough clout to actually be listened to.
But for me. I love the footy, but there are aspects of it that really turn me off it. This issues with the expansion teams is for me just another aspect that turns me off the game. And then to top it off my club gets screwed on the compensation.
Unfortunately the afl have made us look second-rate once again with Andy D telling us it was our fault ward left . We where jumping up and down about getting two pics . Then the Afl make us wait until after Scully has signed .

It is a shitty system, which for all its supposed science is just an arbitrary call made by Anderson while he belts one out over photos of Kevin Sheedy holding a Cup aloft in a Giants polo.
The AFL have got us by the balls, of course we won't be critical of any decision they make. We are an ultra conservative club that plugs away with what we've got, takes no risks and does what it is told. I hate it, but thats what things have boiled down to and most of our fans will gladly take it up the butt in this manner because it is a better outcome than having no club at all.
Perhaps.
All that aside, I hope the Club can make the most of it and we get a gun from the draft who can kick goals under pressure and perform in big games, earning the right to be considered a Bulldog legend. Maybe he'll break the cycle of our players not taking their chance when the time comes.
And, beyond that:

As someone said on the main board, the compensation isn't supposed to be a 100% return on the player you lose, it's just a way of giving something back to the clubs that are losing players. At least we're getting something.

Would have been happy with first round selection and a 2nd round selection this year. Which would be around pick 40.
It's not great but at least its closer to just getting back what we paid for Jordan McMahon all those years ago.
