Ive attached the team lists from the 1984 WAFL Grand Final Budget. Quite a few past and future VFL/AFL players in both teams.

Yes, if you put those two teams straight into the AFL they might have done alright. Thanks for posting the team lists, mate.

Swan Districts and East Fremantle played another weird Grand Final back in 1965.

Going into the game Swans had won the 1961, 1962 and 1963 Grand Finals, East Fremantle losing to the Swans in 1962 and 1963 and the Sharks also losing the 1964 Grand Final to the Claremont Tigers in a massive upset. For most of the day in 1965 Swans were on top, and when East Fremantle could not take advantage of a strong breeze to get back into the game in the third time, it looked fait accompli that the Swans would return to Bassendean with their fourth WAFL premiership in five years, and the Sharks would go back to East Fremantle with the embarrassing statistic of four successive Grand Final losses.

Swans' comfortable 23-point lead at three quarter time looked certain to grow much larger given the persistent breeze favoring them, but then something extraordinary happened that stunned everybody. Somehow, East Fremantle came to life and Swans fell asleep, the Sharks kicking 9 goals to 2 against the strong wind in the final term to turn a 4 goal deficit into a 4 goal win, East Fremantle home by 24-points 18.18-126 to 16.6-102.

Collingwood today vs. Geelong:
- Didn't kick a goal in the first half
- Had one goal midway through the last
- Then kicked 5.1 in the last half-quarter, after a shockingly inaccurate 1.14 before that.
Remarkable reversal in both raw goal-scoring and accuracy for the Magpies.

In addition, the aggregate score of the match nearly doubled in just those last 10 minutes. Was 62 – 1.14 (20) to 5.12 (42) with 10 minutes left, and 112 – 6.15 (51) to 8.13 (61) at the final siren.

From the scores that have never happened in VFL/AFL history, these look like they are perhaps the most 'gettable':

1.14.20
9.1.55
19.4.118
24.6.150
25.8.158

All of the other unrealised scores would require more than 25 goals and/or behinds, or stupendous accuracy / inaccuracy (e.g. 13.1, 16.2, 17.2, 22.4 or 3.20, 4.21 or 6.24). Place your bets! :p

Adelaide was sitting on 16.2 vs Hawthorn this year until late in Q4. Not far off...
And Port Adelaide kicked 16.2 in a preseason game in 2018
And somehow Collingwood had 1.14 midway through the last quarter vs Geelong on Saturday.

The West Coast Eagles vs. Essendon game on this weekend was a bit of a weird one.

The Eagles were deadly accurate with 9.0 to half time (even more remarkable as it was very wet in Perth) and held a comfortable lead over the Bombers, but kicked a woeful 2.5 in the second half to allow Essendon to come back and win by 16-points.

Talk about de ja vu, nearly two years ago to the day Subiaco handed Perth an 11.13-79 to 1.4-10 drubbing, only this time the Demons kicked their only goal early in the first quarter, before not scoring another and bringing up their lowest score since 1912 in the process.

But the 2019 match was played in teeming rain, the Leederville ground an absolute mud-heap with the wings underwater. Last night was cold in Perth and there would have been dew, but no rain.
 
None of these games were weird when viewed on their own, but in Round 21 1991 the five matches played on Saturday afternoon in Melbourne were all so different, despite all teams obviously playing in the same fine weather:

Collingwood 3.4 6.8 11.10 19.13-127 d. Melbourne 3.0 6.3 7.5 8.7-55 by 72-points at MCG. A tight, low-scoring match which the Demons narrowly led halfway through third quarter unexpectedly turns one-sided, the Magpies running away to win easily.

Footscray 3.6 3.9 4.13 8.16-64 d. Adelaide 0.1 2.4 4.4 6.4-40 by 24-points at Western Oval. Low-scoring match, the Bulldogs dominate the first and final terms, the Crows on top in the second and third terms, suggesting wind wasn't a factor.

St. Kilda 5.8 11.11 18.16 23.17-155 d. Carlton 1.0 8.4 10.7 15.11-101 by 54-points at Waverley. High scoring match, Saints trounce the Blues, but Carlton's better scoring in the second and final terms suggest the breeze was a factor in this game.

Essendon 6.5 7.10 16.16 23.19-157 d. Brisbane 3.3 9.4 12.7 17.10-112 by 45-points at Windy Hill. The Bears give the Bombers plenty of problems in the first half, before the game turns into a shoot-out in the second half, Essendon running away with the high-scoring match, the Bears gallant in defeat and far from disgraced. A breeze may have been a factor in the first half, but seemingly not in the second half with both the Bombers and Bears scoring freely.

Hawthorn 7.6 11.15 22.25 28.27-195 d. Fitzroy 2.2 4.5 7.6 10.9-69 by 126-points at Princes Park. An old-fashioned thrashing, with the Hawks completely dominating the Lions from opening bounce to final siren, outscoring Fitzroy in every term.

I know last year was a strange one but 9.1 and 13.1 were both just a goal off last year. I think Freo ended up 10.1 against Collingwood and st Kilda got 12.1 against port.

One that surprises me is 22.4 - we scored 22.5 in a game against north in 2003 (I think) so it’s surprising that the same achievement wasn’t made with one further behind.

I’m also surprised 19.4 and 25.8. I think I can recall a match where a team finished on 20.4.124 - thought it was port but it’s not. Might have to research that one.

found it. It was Sydney versus port in 1998 - also Carlton 18.4.112 in 2000.

Sydney kicked 20.4 against Port in Round 1 1998; St Kilda's 2003 game against North was 21.6.

Dons scored 10.1 against Richmond last year in Darwin.

The North West FA in Tasmania is usually notorious for it's ridiculous high scores, but this happened over the weekend:

West Ulverstone 1.4.10 def. by Turners Beach 1.9.15
Turners Beach outscored West Ulverstone in the second half with a whopping two behinds to one.

It wasn't much better in the ressies as West Ulverstone won 3.9.27 to 0.3.3, but the score at halftime was one behind to nothing in the Beach's favour.

There were heavy winds from the north west during the match, going at an average of 50-60km/h with gusts as high as 89km/h
 
Has the score in points and inside 50s for a match ever been exactly the same?
We came very close today. Brisbane won the match 68-45 while winning the inside 50s 68-44.
 
as the biggest winning margin is 190 points, and in 2011 the cats had a good change to win by 200 points, but ended up being 186, has any team ever had a lead of over 200 points during a match, before having that lead reduced below that?

Not sure, but the Cats' final margin of 186 was in fact their biggest lead of the match.

I don’t think so. The biggest margin was 190 pts in 1979 Melbourne (again) losing to Fitzroy. Melbourne kicked 6.12.48 but it depends on if Melbourne kicked the last two goals. I don’t know if there’s any way to determine what the biggest margin of that game was at any point. Unless someone was there.
 
In Tasmania's Southern Football League, Cygnet have not had a goal scored against them in two consectuive matches.
They played former TFL side Hobart at Snug, the home of the old Channel Footy Club (RIP) and beat them 11.16 to 0.9 in wet conditions, and last week were away to Sorell and beat them 17.22 to 0.4
Eight consecutive quarters with no goal scored against them, and two in ten quarters.

Most I ever saw was 17.0.102 by Penguin in the NTFL in Tassie against Ulverstone several years back.
Think the worst start I saw was North Hobart having 0.18.18 against Glenorchy in a TFL mstch in about 1969/70 at King George V Park.
 
So, I'm a goal umpire involved in community footy here in Adelaide and today I had a game which I felt I should bring up here.

The score wasn't weird, but how things transpired was

I always remember the story of St Kilda vs Geelong in 1899, the game of the lowest ever score in VFL/AFL, St kilda got the first score, then geelong 100% from there-on after.

Most grounds in Adelaide Run North/South, however, where I was at today runs East/West. And today there was a massive wind blowing right down the middle of the ground favouring 1 end.

10th, (1-13) had the ball first and dominated field position and kept it up their end the whole 1st quarter taking a 4.4.28 lead to 0.0.0 at 1/4 time. Then against the wind in the 2nd quarter, they kick a goal early on to take a 5.4.34 to 0.0.0 lead. Then 9th, (4-1-9) get ontop and dominate for the rest of the quarter, coming into half time up 5.5.35 to 5.4.34. The 3rd quarter 9th continued that dominance for a 8.5.53 to 5.4.34 lead about halfway through the 3rd when in a marking contest, an incident occured resulting in one of the players having a seizure. Stoppage, ambulance, game called.

So 1 team got 100% of their score (5.4.34) then the other team got 100% of their score (8.5.53) with neither team registering a score against the play.
 
The thread title is weird football scores and one which caught my eye yesterday - i was looking at a couple of old years

1979 end of home and away Nth Melb finished 2nd and Coll finished 3rd - and they met in the 1st qualifying final

Nth Melb 3.2 6.5 16.7 18.13

Collingw 4.8 7.17 8.23 9.28

That is a bizarre scoreline - they met 2 weeks later in the Prelim and the Magpies reversed the result
