LOL, yeah that seems right

CrowdedHouse / The_Wookie , can you confirm that the draft is pointless for the non-Victorian teams? (And also what would be the point of giving non-Victorian teams priority picks when they have can have whoever they want from their own state draft?)
I am neither the Wookie or Crowded House, but yes, in a technical sense, it is pointless. GWS are drafting from a different pool of players to Collingwood, so whether they are ahead or behind in the order is irrelevant. It is also a bit redundant to call what the non Vic teams are doing a draft. A draft implies multiple teams selecting, but they are just picking players from a list. They can take them in any order they like, as no one else can get them in the meantime.

However, as drama, or as a spectacle, it is better to market it as a `draft`, what else could they realistically call it?

On a side note, a GWS podcast made it pretty clear they have people nominate NSW as their draft state who are not from NSW. So women desperate to play, but nervous about whether they make the cut in their home state may be nominating for NSW.

i am hoping for ashmore with our first 2 picks, also like chocci, davey, and alisha newman if she nominated. (will find out this morning) soccer background and has magic aussie rules skills 21 yrs..old

I had a look at this link and Helen Roden sounded familiar (turned out it was from Helen Rodin being a character name in Jack Reacher film.)

Now wondering from this http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/news/2016-09-02/roden-joins-collingwood-womens-team
why Roden is Rodan's sister (with different surname spelling) "Roden, the sister of former Richmond and Port Adelaide player David Rodan
Did Helen marry someone with very similar surname?

Writeup on Brittany Bonnici. She sat out most of this year after getting repeated concussions. After being knocked out the final time she started randomly passing out, and scans found a build up of fluid on the brain. She was told she could probably never play a contact sport again. A better than expected recovery saw her given the green light late this year, and she played the last part of the season (with a helmet).

Incidentally, she played an exhibition game for Melbourne, and Caitlyn Edwards played for Bulldogs (forget which year).

Cheers for the info, scary about Bonnici she seems very lucky.

It'd be good to have a resource thread with info like this in it. Are you able to start it off by creating a thread with this table, and one of the mods will sticky it?

FYI Anzacday Magpie Girl Gone Critical Vicky Park

A girl I grew up with never played AFL until this year and she absolutely dominated the season. Won the best on ground in the grand final and also won their best and fairest. Quite an achievement. GWS has been on her radar big time and she got invited to a screening day, along with a lot of other girls from different sports. Hope we pick her up with one of our draft picks she would be an excellent get.

The other girls that I have seen play from my local club are Heather Anderson and Elyse O'Dea. Both played for The Bulldogs and The Demons over the last couple of years. I think Heather got a best of ground on one of the games. Both of these girls could have been playing a low level of male seniors in Canberra.

That is about as much info I can provide on some girls we should look at. I'm actually looking forward to seeing how this develops over the next couple of years. Women's AFL is one of the fastest expanding games in the world believe it or not.
Saw Anderson went to Adelaide (any idea why she nominated for SA?) and O’Dea’s at the Dees. Who was the other girl you were talking about & where’d she end up?

Yeah I toyed with the idea of a new thread. Now done https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/thre...player-list-other-info.1149084/#post-47300796, feel free to change the title if there's another one which is preferred or more appropriate.

I'll add info into the other posts when I get time.

She would have nominated Adelaide because Bec Goodard is the coach. Bec and her father were apart of Belconnen Magpies many years ago. The other girl from Belconnen who got drafted to Adelaide was Talia Radan.

The other girl didn't end up getting drafted, she would have nominated GWS. Not sure if she pulled out of the draft of simply was not picked up. I thought she would have been a great pick up, seeing how she dominated so much in Canberra, in such a short time of playing the game. Maybe another time.

Anderson is in the army, and last I heard was in the NT, playing in the NT women's comp', so it may have been difficult playing anywhere else.

The club has updated this page to include a bio on each player from our coach, which it gives a good insight into both the players and how we see them. Interesting we recruited Livingstone a second division forward to play key back. Also seems we've recruited players who are good in space with a view towards having 16 per side and a more open women's game. A lot of club captains and leaders amongst the group too.

Any thoughts about how we got the four WA girls?

King was obviously a marquee. But the other three ...

Would they have been told by Freo that they wouldn't be picked up, so they tried their luck elsewhere?

Or they grabbed the opportunity for travel and adventure to go to Victoria?

Or would they had been told by Collingwood that they would be picked up if they nominated for Vic?

Or some other mechanism?

Edwards was always going to get picked up. Angel also was also always a likely pick up. Suspect they just wanted to play in Melbourne. Schleicher not sure about, do not know her really.
