It’s time we land a decent cat b rookie. Think Frankie could be that as well but he’s skills as a back man is all over the place and at 23 he hasn’t physically progressed to play AFL.

Tap ruck work is not rocket science

Nic Nat....mason cox ....former port ruckman ..sorry name escapes me was from a basketball background

General field play is however very different but it’s good news .....

Premiership ruckman Mike Pyke as well. Jim Stynes if you want to go back that far.

Won't necessarily be a ruckman, 198cm is a good height for a key position player. And with MacKenzie and Schofield retiring in the near future we could definitely use a key defender.

Think Olongo is the same height as well. Think 5-10 years time we probably won’t many ruckman under 200cm(especially at the elite end).

Patrick attended Caulfield Grammar, a prestigious private school in Stkilda. He played football as a youngster up until the age of 12, where he began to focus on basketball. Patrick for a few years has been approached by afl teams attempting to lure him away from basketball. He is tall and powerful with great hands.
So same high school as Chris Judd!

Interesting that a Melbourne kid would choose to come over to Perth when there were other options. Will wait to hear from the club, but it's always nice to get a quality prospect for free.

Just a theory, but junior basketballers might be a little more conditioned to having to leave home to follow their dream. Even to play at a national level, they have at most one local NBL side to pin their hopes on and if they don't pick you up, you've got to move interstate (or if you're a Sydney kid maybe you move to Wollongong I guess). And if you've got loftier goals than that, you've got to move to the US or Europe.

Compare that to Vic kids playing footy, where there's 10 clubs in their hometown in the absolute top league in the world.

This post took me back to the late 80s / early 90s, when there were five NBL teams in Victoria. What halcyon days they were.

Patrick Bines is 19 yrs of age so has plenty of time to develop , I reckon we are paying / offering him a very good salary also .

If we are able to draft Jarrad Cameron also as a Category B rookie this draft also it means one of T Bayok / F Watson are elevated permanently to the main list or one is delisted with only three Cat B rookies allowed .

Typical Vic-centric league

The South-East Melbourne Magic were quality though. I remember when they merged with the North Melbourne Giants and I was disappointed they didn't call themselves North-East-South Melbourne.

Watson was removed from List B this year, to enable us to play him at any time.

So Watson likely to stay on the main list which is good , classy player hopefully gets a game soon .
Classy, yes, but butchers the ball alot which is not what we need with our high possesion "chip pass" game style coming off half back. Also as good as it would be, I highly doubt a bid won't come for Cameron. He's rated by knightmare as a top 20 prospect for the draft so getting him with any pick 50+ will be a massive win for us.

J Cameron is not a top twenty pick , season at the pointy end or past month including the 18s Championships was really good though .

They were a merger themselves weren't they? Eastside Spectres and South Melbourne something

He has ranked him as a top 20 or 25 (can't quite remember) prospect. Obviously he won't be taken anywhere near there because of our ties with him, but that's where he has ranked him.

This is exactly what he had to say

Cameron is quality. He's unbelievably underrated. Has had injury issues and is performing even despite that to a high level.

He's a first round quality prospect who can probably be had late. He may be after Blakey that next best NGA prospect. And controversial as it may be, I have him neck and neck with the much more highly touted Tarryn Thomas on quality.

Think of him as something like his brother Charlie. He has the same speed/agility. Tackles a lot like his brother - though does need to get stronger to make them stick. And like his brother who wasn't a huge goal kicker, Charlie is showing flashes he can with five goals I believe it was during one of the u18 champs matches. So he can ball and is an ideal list fit as a forward.
