agreed. As stated previously, do not feel so bad about losing Hendo the way this kid is developing. Looking like the same sort of presence Gumbleton at the Bombers - a no. 2 draft pick. Must play out the season, IMO.

BTW just how tall is he now? Drafted at 192, have seen 194, but looked taller than that last night.

Not a bad draft for us, '08.

To think some of our better performers on Saturday were Acorn, Rockliff, Redden and Banfield.:thumbsu:

It looked like Acorn has a killer set of hands- took so many good/great grabs, was a real joy to watch. And had Fev not been given that dubious free kick, I believe it was Acorn who swooped in and would've goaled anyway- unlucky not to kick 4.

Hope he keeps getting opportunities to improve his 2.5 goal per game average.;)

got a good head on his shoulders ! very keen to improve and make the most of his chance, many might get a pleasant surprise over the next few weeks, just maybe this will give a positive in a year of negatives for us poor old lion supporters !

just gotta get that fev to lift his game support him ! hahaha

I was reading a copy of Inside Football from the week before the Richmond game and it was intersting to note that up until then he had kicked 33 (i think) goals from the season so far. This puts him in the top 15 or so for all AFL listed players playing in either the AFL or state football. Granted the QAFL isn't as strong as the some other state leagues but this is still a massive positive.
He should be a certain starter for the remainder of the year.

Surely Cornelius is our future key forward with BIG BART!

I heard from a few players that Bart is our best kick at the club even better than Rich and Drummo and that he can roost it 60 meters plus! Also isn't he like 199cm tall or something so surely he is perfect for a CHF role, Retzlaff at Full Foward and Cornelius our 3rd tall? I honestly think that our foirward line set for KPP and that we should be drafting midfielders this year.

Thoughts?

Also yeah Aaron is an awsome talent! Can't wait too see him this Thursday night!

I really don't see why the kid can't play up forward with Brown and Fev upon Browns return. There was talk of a 3-man forward line before Bradshaw decided to go and if anything it's only going to give us another avenue to goal.

I was never a Henderson fan and was more than pleased to see him leave when it meant we kept Rischa. If we hold onto him and continue his development I think we've more than covered what we had in Henderson.

Love the Corndog, but I think those who have only seen him play seniors have yet to experience his achilles heel... goal kicking.

He's hit them pretty straight in the seniors so far, but I think the ressies watchers will be able to tell you that he can often be a head-in-hands-in-despair type from set shots at times. Shades of Travis Cloke.

Hopefully this doesn't plague him much at senior level.

Plenty of positives with Azza of course, just can't help but worry that people are setting their expectations a little too high.

I'm more concerned by the amount of love Redden seems to attract. I have no doubt he'll be a good player, but IMO hasn't really impressed thus far, especially given the amount of hype there seems to be surrounding him. The likes of Rockcliff and Banfield are a fair way ahead.

As for Acorn, the ability to take a strong mark at AFL level is something that cannot be taught, whereas goal kicking is a skill that can be improved over time. Not expecting the next Brown, just a good solid forward. Who IMO has done more to deserve high expectations in 2 games than Henderson did in 3 years.

I don't think your concern is valid with Redden, most people aren't singing his praises like you say. Mostly they think he is a good investment (aka better returns in the future).

A whereas goal kicking is a skill that can be improved over time.

Tell that to the coaches. I'm starting to believe goal kicking is a natural instinct.

It is pretty easy to get carried away with young players but hey that's footy. We've all done it. Seen something in a young player and have come out and said to the world "wow you're gonna be a star, how did we get you at pick 223" only to be proven shockingly wrong.

Is that not more or less what I was saying? Clearly he is a developing prospect. I merely pointed out the high expectations being placed on him, i.e. the expectation of better returns in the future.

Disagree on the 1st paragraph - Jack will be OK.
Second paragraph is spot on, IMO.:thumbsu:
