Blow off the steam. Kick the dog. Hump the wife. And wait for 2012.

A theme for next week's preview?

Isn't this somewhat of panic station? We had one bad quarter against the league's second best side after competing for three quarters. We weren't too bad. Plenty of positives, more so than negatives.

Mate I can see why you are dark, last quarter was absolutely putrid but some positives can still be taken out of the game. That was one of the things I was hoping for this year, we could take some positives out of every game.

If we had gone down by 35 points taking the game on and taking some risks that didnt work out i wouldnt have cared (as much). But to come out and play like that just after the coach has addressed you two and a bit goals down at 3/4 time really pisses me off.

What were Bailey's instructions at 3/4 time? "Look guys we are closer than i thought we would be right now. If we can just contain them by slowing the play down and chipping it around our percentage will improve. Come on guys now get in there and lose by less than 4 goals!!! RA RA RA!!!!"

but at some point we have to win one or two of these games.

Yes, but perhaps not against a premiership contendor.

We're not the only team to lose to St Kilda this year. And won't be the last.

By the way, we kicked more goals against them in the last quarter than Geelong managed in the last half (last week.)

Well, you don't know do you? Nor do any of us. So why jump to conclusions?

Scully unfit, Spencer and Cheney playing first games and out of their depth, senior players like Junior/Sylvia out, Grimes missing and us one short on the bench ...

There are enough real reasons why we might fall away without inventing any.

The really weird thing about Bate is, when Miller's playing, Bate always seems to play heaps better. But the negative to that set-up is, we have to put up with Miller in the team.

Catch-22 really.
Replace Miller with Liam Jurrah, Ricky Petterd, Green at full forward and an improved Jack Watts and the catch 22 is solved.

Bate's problem is that he needs space and quick ball movement. At AAMI last week he at least had some space. Etihad against the saints, he was never going to have either of those.

Will we be sh1t next week when Morton, Jurrah, Sylvia and Bail all come in?
We better not be, our forum is gonna get ugly if we are. I think this is our most important game for the year. After the way Essendon played against Adelaide a loss will be unacceptable and we will have to start to question Bailey's ability to coach and where we are heading as a club.

Grimes is a massive loss but those 4 possible ins plus hopfully Junior can get over his hammy will give us a massive boost.

This is something people seem to be missing - the best team in the league couldn't break through the St Kilda zone last week; that combined with us being a man down for the whole second half and our weak forward line meant we were always going to struggle to score in the second half. I'm actually suprised we were still in it at three-quarter time.

Great avatar Buddha.

I understand the post-loss frustration, but I still think we're on the right track. Apart from the last quarter, where we showed no signs of wanting to take the game on, we were actually decent for the first three quarters. In fact, I think we led the clearances and hard ball gets at 3/4 time, and had the same number of scoring shots. Up until that point, we were in the game and putting in a respectable effort. One quarter should not be used as the barometer. And if anyone expected us to beat St Kilda, they need a reality check. St Kilda have lost just 6 of the last 39 matches.

I went to the game and Spencer is by far the worst player I've ever seen... who in the world hired that noob? He has no qualities that even make me think of him as even being a footballer, what do others see in him that I can't?

Was he just hired for his size, because it sure as shit seems that way. We want footballers, not trees.

I'm sick of seeing us lose, but on a positive note... least we weren't thrashed today by what most would think of as a much better side. St.Kilda are flying atm, and to say we only got beat by 35 as compared to way over 10 goals as it's been in the past was a little refreshing to say the least.

I guess I was just being a little too optimistic when I thought we were still in it at three quarter time :(

[Pat's on the back to Green, Scully, Trengove, McKenzie, Davey, Dunn, Bennell, Jamar and a couple of others who really had a crack for the most part]

miller generally gets the best forward

So damn frustrating watching my team this year. So many positives, but just as many 'same ol' negatives.

If we don't bring out *&^%ing A game against the Dons next week I will explode.

And Bailey, enough of Spencer. Seriously, the kid cannot hack it in VFL, let alone AFL. What a waste of time.

how so? he gets BOG in VFL games...

idiot!
saying a player is just shit is just plain negative and shows your incompetence regarding this game.

Joel MacDonald - hasn't got all the skills in the world but tries very bloody hard and is very verbal on the ground and a real leader.

Jake Spencer - project player and geeez, not great at this stage but I wouldn't be that harsh.

Bartram - fast tagger/defender and put more strain on him today when Grimes when down. Will be a depth player in a few years.

Bate - he is playing as a key positon you clown, and is a natural half forward flank.

Garland - gives away some silly frees but does some really nice work also, can play on tall or small

McKenzie - put his head over the ball more often than anyone else, barring our captain.

Bruce - good player, like to see him forward. The game plan is just a little too fast for him and he give up a silly handball everygame.

Bailey - seems to be a real teacher and has a lot of respect from the players, definiely persist with him for another 2 years.

There are few positives to take from the game but overall we let ourselves down. I think we will need at least two more years (and more to become contenders) to turn over more dead wood and really build the list. We've probably got most of the top end quality (young midfielders) but there is much to go.

There are players that frustrate us an individuals but it is how we play as a team that frustrates me most. If our intensity is right up, and we create turnovers we give ourselves a chance. But I'm sick of seeing it drop off where we don't even execute the football basics as we succume to a zone. We don't work or innovate our way up the ground and turn it over in disgusting fashion. Poor decision making, poor skills, no one creating options, predictable and it just results to kicking to a contest and hoping.

I agree next week is a must win. It will go a long way in deciding where we finish and I will be fuming if we finish bottom two this year.

We can play some very good football, but we seemed to have forgotten how.

It's very frustrating when we concede early and easy goals and can't lock the ball up forward. We have a propensity to look like shit when our defence makes mistakes and our midfield is beaten. No arguement there. Take solace in the fact we will cull more crap players at the end of the year and if not later this year then next year the benefits of training at OP will start filtering through.

Pretty safe to say that, yeah.

We need, and should expect a full-blooded performance from minute one through to the final siren on Sunday.

Here's a stat for the stat haters:

Over the four quarters, our average time taken for our first goal was .... 18 minutes 9 seconds.

Could say that 3 of 4 (Petterd Jurrah Sylvia ) of our best forwards weren't on the park against the best defensive team in the league (4 of 5 if including Wonna as our best sml fwd).

We'll improve with the correct cattle on the paddock.
