Amazed McDonald didn't get in Werribee's bests.

Thought he was on par with Ross as BOG.

He had 20 to 3/4 time, so guessing he had mid 20's again, and as was pointed out by David Rhys-Jones, was the most damaging player on the ground with the ball in his hands.

And a view from the ground.....

First, to the social highlights - Majak limping around with his right knee in a brace, Harper looking forlorn with his right arm in a sling, and Eric the Beast puts in an appearance with a very fashionable railwayman's cap; quite a fetching sartorial effect.

And then to the game. McGenniss tagged Magner right from the start, and did a good job - Magner as their prime mover had no influence, and was shifted to half forward late in the game as they played catch up. However, when McGenniss gets the ball in the clear and has an opportunity to kick, it does tend to bring a tear to the eye of even the most sympathetic supporter - if he's going to the next level, his disposal by foot has to improve exponentially. Major threat to the Bees was Gawn - he was dominant in the first quarter, and most of their goals came from centre clearances. Currie however worked his way into the game, and probably shared the points in the end, well assisted by the Bees second ruck Will Sullivan, who was handy. The lack of a second ruck in the Casey side definitely allowed Currie/Sullivan to grind Gawn down, but Melbourne definitely have one there.

First half was very even - Bees looked fragile down back with Kennedy and Clouston having their problems. And then at the other end of the ground, Sellar had the better of Brown - with the latter playing as the marking forward, Milky played on a wing and the Bees couldn't take a mark in the forward fifty.

Bees won it in the second half with run and carry - their transition game was impressive, and they looked best when it was in the hands of Ben Ross. Sherlock provided great run off half back - just can't see how you could play as a flanker at 173cm in the AFL. Kennedy and Clouston got better as the game opened up - both prepared to run hard in attack, and Kennedy's best moment came when, outmarked by Gawn, he ran him down when the big fella played on. Clouston got better and better - kicked a goal, but not sure at 193cm he's a KPD

Luke McDonald was fantastic throughout - played on the wing, on a 25 year AFL player in Rohan Bail, and gave him a bath. Sirra was good as a linkman, despite one awful handball mistake that coughed up a goal.

Speight was quiet, and didn't do much to suggest he might get picked up elsewhere. I thought Gysberts was again pretty good in close - don't understand why we would draft a 190cm inside mid who's been in a bad system and cut him after a year. Certainly has work to do on the outside, but I wouldn't be giving up just yet.

And on to Box Hill next Sunday

Appreciate that roomy. Looking at the 3 of Kennedy, Sirra, and Gysberts, who looks least likely to have a future with us, from watching their VFL form?

Perhaps whoever was doing the match report is a North man and part of the LMac for second rounder campaign. ;)

Can understand why Rhys-Jones likes the way Luke goes about it. Got a bit of mongrel in him.

I find that the bests list is never that accurate, rarely pay too much attention to it .
From what I saw McDonald was in the best 3 players

Cheers TPA :thumbsu:

Sounds like the Bees are finding form at the right time. And it sounds like LMac has been giving us a bit of a taster. Will ease the pain of having to give up our first rounder.

He kicks short like B-mac. Very impressed.

:D ba ha ha

Luke's kicking is a little overrated by alot on here.

BMAC is as good as a kick as you could ever find, I'm serious about that.

Luke's a little like Hodge, can hit a bullet, can kick it like a mule, but can also shank them sometimes. Like Hodge, it's his decision making that is elite, not just his good kicking, when you couple them together, he cuts teams apart at times.

My only concern with Luke is that he doesn't win much of it himself. Seems to need others to get it out to him.

That said, I guess outside class is just what we need :D

Don't forget he only turned 18 this year.........It's pretty hard at 18 to compete physically with guys in their mid 20's. That being said he wins a lot more of his own ball at TAC level

Did you guys watch the game? Kennedy was not on Smith until he kicked his fourth. Not saying he was great , far from it, but he want the one getting spanked.

LMac was the only AFL standard player for the Bees.

I don't know what game you blokes were watching, or was it just the commercial breaks?

I left at the end of the third period..and my observations became more clouded with the beer...plus...I was sitting on the fence and admit I couldn't see much from ground level. But...what I did see...

1. Kennedy having a spray at a few players and the umps. Can't say he doesn't care. Didn't look great in the first quarter. But I don't think he's at his best playing down at full back. The ball was coming in pretty deep.

2. There must be a very Steve Saunders reason we let Ben Ross go, as in we saw his body breaking down. Or Scott was in the middle of his love affair with Levi, whom is admittedly crush-worthy at his best. I hope Ben gets another shot with someone.

3. Lots of North boys at the game. Saw Swallow in his cast, Scotty T, McMahon, Harper, and Daw. Nice to see some of the senior players supporting the others.

4. Gawn is a giant but Currie worked his way into it.

5. Hardly saw Gysberts get it.

6. Just after half-time, as people were clearing the ground, saw a young fella in Tigers jumper get pegged in the head by a stray ball behind the goals. Tears followed. Figured it was an omen. A bit ashamed to say I laughed. The kid was okay though. Tougher than Jack.

+ he's as hard at it as they come and his tackles stick.

Pykie

Fair enough on Luke's kicking.

On Kennedy? Are you still frothin that North may delist him? Surely after seeing him day in day out for 4 + years they're not making the decision on a whim?

So, out of about 8-9 games I've seen Luke play, this one has got me the most excited. I get the feeling that this kid is also going to be suited a lot more to AFL level, his natural instinct appears to be to play behind play, and that's a lot better suited to the AFL game where the pressure leads to a lot more disposal going backwards.

And how was the goal from the square!! and the run from the middle where he took a few on! and the kick from the backline that went about 80m! or a couple of those pin point passes to the top of the 50! How he didn't get in the bests bemuses me, either way super excited for him to wear the blue and white in round one.

don't think any of us need convincing :p

He is very explosive isn't he? And tough. Kicking depth is elite.
Is he a good leader? Has he captained any sides?

Was at the game, and was definitely a game of 2 halves when it came to our players.

Just watched the first half on IQ,

again ba ha ha
