Is there an option to get banfield or the nga kids playing for us? Or are they already?
Might not be the best option anyway with us having no reserves team

Crows did it in the SANFL last season with F/S Welsh.

Played SANFL for the Crows and when the national u18s started he went back to his zoned team (Eagle) until the National Carnival finished.

Was projected to be a high pick but didn’t have a great year.

So not sure if it’s a good idea or not but he is also a key forward so harder for him at State league level then maybe wingers and flankers too.

I think we’d have to get their WAFL club to agree to it.

We were able to borrow NGA product Ethan Regan from East Perth for a couple of games, not a full season.

Anyway I think the Beagles’ issue is going to be the lack of WAFL-quality top-ups, not a lack of developing youngsters.

What happened to our ability to have WAFL players be employed by the club in community style roles? I recall Hamish Brayshaw had that. I assume the WAFL put at stop to it? If so we should at least see if that can be re-instated. Surely the other WAFL clubs want us to be mildly competitive... at this rate its going to be our biggest dumpster fire yet given we actually cut some dead older wood that played WAFL last year.

I don’t think they put a stop to it. Nelson was employed in some similar sort of role.

Jackson Nelson, Trey Ruscoe and Jason Gilbee were all employed by the club in community roles as well as being on the WAFL list

All three have left the club ahead of the 2025 season for varying reasons

not sure but Bailey Banfield 19, older brother of Charlie who plays for Claremont would be worth a spot

That is odd as I remember Hamish Brayshaw saying on Backchat that it was part of the reason why he left the Beagles. Maybe they really cut down the pay for the community role or something but he was rather annoyed by it, even though he basically said he was told not to say why.

*Not the reason he left the Beagles, the reason he left the community role. He left the Beagles because it looked like they weren’t going to be a thing in 2022, so he signed with East Perth, then couldn’t get out of that contract when the club eventually decided to retain the WAFL side.

I think it was ahead of the 2024 season the club took a position that people they employed during the week couldn’t play for another WAFL side against the Beagles on the weekend. I assume it was designed to strong-arm them into helping out the Beagles but what happened instead was that Brayshaw quit his role (including as an assistant coach of the AFLW side) so he could continue to play for East Perth, Alec Waterman quit so he could join Claremont, and Sam Rotham stayed in his job but left West Perth and played ammos.

Ruscoe showing up on the WAFL site as a Souths player and Datson as an Eagles player, looks like that’s been finalised.

Gillbee still listed with WCE, wonder if we’re trying to prise a player out of the Falcons?

In an exciting development you can now search the WAFL site for WCE-listed players again. It’s almost like we’re an actual club!

Some more new players:
James Ewing - 4 league games for Perth last year and 26 for Peel prior to that
Cooper Brown - a handful of ressies games for Swan Districts
Denholm Melrose - ditto
Ashley and Dylan Brockbernd - twins who played colts for Swans
Zac Dronow - played colts for East Perth
Connor Klemke - ex West Perth, might be the swap for Gillbee?

Numbers also seem to have been mostly allocated so piecing the squad together as best I can…
