WHAT!!?!?!?!?!?

JOONDALUP-based Aussie Rules club West Perth is pitching the game to local Brits.
The Falcons will next month incorporate the Union Jack into its guernsey for the league’s international round to reflect the region’s high percentage of UK-born residents.
The jumper, which is being provided to the Falcons with the support of the WA Football Commission, is a bold move for the club, which moved in 1994 to Arena Joondalup from its traditional European roots at Leederville Oval, where the team was nicknamed the Garlic Munchers.

West Perth will resist a threat from Joondalup City Council to change their name or risk losing $2 million towards the redevelopment of Arena Joondalup.
In an echo of the bitter dispute 10 years ago, when West Perth members were divided over attempts to change the name of the WAFL's oldest club to reflect its location, the matter may be forced to a club vote.
Joondalup mayor Troy Pickard urged West Perth to "embrace a fresh chapter" and said the commitment to the redevelopment could depend on a name change.
"It is highly probable that a condition of that funding will be for sporting groups who use the facility to include Joondalup in their club name," Pickard said.
"West Perth are the major beneficiary of the Arena Joondalup upgrade with the construction of a long overdue clubroom facility."
Falcons president Brett Raponi was confident the Arena redevelopment was not at risk and said it was unlikely a name change would be forced on West Perth.
He claimed that a name change had never been discussed during negotiations with the State Government and Joondalup City Council to put $20 million into the redevelopment.
"I don't believe we need to change our name, but ultimately the members of our club will make those decisions," Raponi said.
"Our pitch for funding to the Labor Party and Liberal Party over the past four years never included changing our name.
"And the Government's commitment to further develop the Arena facility had no clauses attached."
Pickard said it was time for West Perth to consider a name change given it was nearly 20 years since the club moved from its Leederville base to Perth's northern corridor.
It would be the club's fourth name. It started as Victorians as a WAFL foundation club in the inaugural season in 1885, changed its name to Metropolitans four years later and has played as West Perth since 1891.
Pickard indicated strongly that the council would require a name change for West Perth to benefit from the money offered during the State election campaign in February, when Joondalup promised to add $4 million to the $16 million State Government commitment.
Using the example of WACA foundation club North Perth which changed its name to Joondalup when it moved to Iluka in 2000, Pickard said the community might better embrace the club with a name reflecting its location.
"We believe residents and businesses who have moved to the area are far more likely to identify and engage with the club if their team name reflected their locality," Pickard said. "The young players who are zoned to the club are from the northern corridor, and many of its sponsors and members are also drawn from the region."
Raponi said West Perth continued to provide significant benefits and exposure to Joondalup under its old banner.

The name West Perth should be heritage listed. The club has played under this name for longer than Australia has been a country !!

It would almost be the last straw for me.

I'd move back to Leederville in a heart beat (yes I know wrong thing financially)

No one likes going to Joondalup. NO ONE. I'm happy with them to stay there (which means we survive) but the name must stay. Big game this week, might have to make the journey up to South Geraldton to see us put those cocky Eagles fluffing w***ers to the sword.

I don't get to go to too many Cardies games usually one or two a year and funny thing is it's never at Arena Joondalup despite living 3 minutes from there.

Has absolutely zero atmosphere usually, but I might go along this week as we are playing the filthy Eagles.

to any longtime wp supporters, i am trying to locate a junior shield that was presented to the best u/15 player in the wp junior council. it was the ''garry cullen memorial shield'' . first awarded in 1960' it was inaugerated in honour of my brother who tragically died from a football accident in 1959. notable players who won it were ken spencer and john nykyforak.

There'd surely be historians out there who would know. Try calling in the ABC tomorrow morning between 10-12 tomorrow and ask. It might make the show worth listening too with mono brow Middlemas, AFL of Death Duffield and the hate filled Ken Judge talking ignorant shit the rest of the time.

Congrats on a fantastic game at Basso yesterday. It was a terrific and physically battering contest and if you play like that next week I can see Claremont not being too comfortable. :thumbsu:

Weather was awful but glad I went down. The tight games elsewhere added to the drama. Here's to a Swans-Cardies granny with no Western suburbs toffs or WCE sextoys near the big game.

Great win! The scoreline flattered the Tigers. Finally back in to the big one! Can't wait for it in 2 weeks. Hopefully a decent crowd.

Yes!!! Finally something to cheer about in this crappy year that is 2013. Last game I actually went to was a draw against those scummy Swans a few years back, always keep one eye on the mighty Falcons but with going to the Eagles every second week I would be divorsed in an instant if I was going to the WAFL every other week!! Can't wait to head to subi for the GF, at least one of my teams is going well!

We'll need The Ferals to get up for that to happen. Can't believe I want them to win next week. Grannie would turn in her grave if she heard me say that.

Les "Chopper" Fong interview on 91.3FM this morning. LEGEND.

He's 60 now. How old does that make you feel ?

My view of Les has dimmed in recent times because of his dodgy brother but still a legend. I tried hugging him after a big game at Subi when I was a kid. I think it might have been the 85 first semi that we lose.

I remember seeing him at Mirrabooka shopping centre when I was about 10. It was like seeing Mick Jagger walking down the street.

Let's prey the WC Roygirls get past Claremont then.

Claremont have the weakest, oldest and most pathetic supporters IN THE WORLD!!

I swear you could be sitting amongst 50 of them for a whole match and not realise who they barracked for until the final siren when, in unison, they stand up and give a golf clap. All the passion and verve of a National Lifestyle Village soup night!

Get the Black and Blue scumbags in there and we can have some real fun.

Might get 30k there.
