How is wylie going in grade cricket?

We aren’t winning the shield this season. Might as well get a few more games under his belt. Perhaps move him a bit lower down the order

When you consider how bad the one day domestic season is going for WA, and you then drop the majority of them into the Scorchers side you can see why things are going so poorly.

Been a horrible short form year for WA cricket.

We are finding ways for it to continually get worse. I didnt think it was possible.
We have been blessed with some great memories, 5 Big Bash titles. Shit happens sometimes but my God this is one of the great capitulations of a season
I mean at least from a positive perspective, we've definitely been spoiled with success, we've been the most successful domestic team for years, as well as the most successful BBL team of all time.

I figured it was a matter of time before we had a down period.

Yeah, really hard to stay up a long time in the Shield nowadays. Best I can find in the last 20 years was Victoria going 5 finals and 4 titles in 6 years between 14/15-19/20

What’s most frustrating is that the Scorchers’ squad is probably the most talented but for various reasons we just haven’t been able to put our best team out there. That, and maybe some of our bowlers are past their best.
Chopping and changing every game doesn't help Jack

We haven't had continuity with team selection and is hurt us

I agree, but the team we have put out each game has often been better than the results delivered. We've seen all of Dorff, Tye band Kelly get smacked around in final overs that has killed us. Our bowlers have been the nucleus of our success for the better part of a decade (Dorff, Richo, Tye and Agar) but we might be at the end of that era.

Thought Dorff was as dependable as always this year. Agar solid but I guess it depends if they can get a similar performance from a cheaper option like Spoors or Rocc. Tye is definitely at the end.

Even if pivoting, I’d keep Dorff. A bowling line-up of Richo, Morris and Dorff, with Kelly, Beardman and Jackson as back-up is still high quality.

I'd want some extra depth in the bowling department, tbh - if Jhye's recovery goes well, he'll spend a bit of time with a baggy green on next season, I reckon.

As for the others, it's sad for Tye but he's fallen off a cliff and at 38, there's no coming back from that.

Behrendorff will be 35 next season - I'd be happy to go year by year but if he gets offered two somewhere else he should take it. Much like Shaun Marsh, even if he does finish his career elsewhere he'll be remembered as a Scorchers great.

I hope they don't think pensioning off some old bowlers will fix everything, though.

How many fast bowlers can we carry? I listed six, though it seems more and more likely Dorff is on the move, so he would have to be replaced with someone else, preferably someone with experience rather than another young WA contracted player. We need to find a new death bowler, it was a real weakness in games like the Thunder and Renegades. I agree Richo could be around the Test squad, but six fast bowlers seems about right, especially if Marsh and Hardie play more next year as extra bowling options.

the bowling isn't the issue never has been and we have enough cover ..yes we struggled with some death overs this year and finishing it off

its the batting....you can't gave two internationals at 1 and 2 opening the batting imo...1 yes not two

I said last season when inglis was available you need a jet at the top ....Inglis should open every game for me when available and have Mitch Marsh at 3

and its time to get some WA lads home....Dorff has been fantastic time to retire get Paris to replace him having a good season for the stars.

I would also look at Darcy Short ... and get Curtis into the team next year......

back the local lads its how we have had success in the past ...the international are just the cheery on top for me

I love Dorf he’s so dependable with the new ball. He bleeds orange.

I’m not a scorchers fan but would hate to see him at another club.

He’s a heart and soul player a bit like Turner they are Perth through and through and should never play anywhere else.

The bowling isn’t the biggest issue but it’s still an issue. We occasionally bled runs and it cost us. Think, we had the Renegades 4/10 and they did us on our home ground. Certainly not quite as tight as we were once renowned.

If we replace Dorff with Paris, I’d be fine with that but it’s not exactly a refresh. He’d need to be back-up behind Richo, Morris and maybe Beardman. Replacing Tye may be the hardest, he was such a gun T20 bowler in his prime. Perhaps we need to look one international bat and one international bowler, someone of real quality.
