I am not a fan of this sort of thing. Yes the gate will be huge but does the competition need it? Say Akers plays a blinder and is the difference between Heywood winning and losing. Say then that the loser misses out on finals is that fair? In my view these blokes whoring it around undesirably skew our competition.

So no Jamie Cammarano for Casterton last season?
To say Aker playing for Heywood against Millicent is going to cause Millicent to miss finals is drawing a pretty long bow don't you think? Because that is what you are suggesting.
And yes it is fair. Why wouldn't it be fair?
If Whoop Whoop FC pays $120,000 a year on their team and Bonnie Doon FC pay $80,000 a year for theirs is that fair?
And can you ellaborate a little more on "in my view these blokes whoring it around undesirably skew our competition"

borderfiddler, have a another port mate, your comments make as much sense as justin mc connells long sleeves on a 26 degree day. North Gambier, very very dissapointing, if the reported figure of $10,000 a week for you to field a team is true, then the yellow bellys are in more strife than Adam Creeks Sexuality. Very ordinary and a delight to watch a mix of premiership stars and a bunch of teenagers take it up up too a team of supposed premiership contenders.

Full credit to south, probably overall looked the better side and could have won the game
north got away in the end largely due to mcconnell's influence. South applied the pressure and north looked intimidated, stringer was brilliant and leroy doesn't look like retiring anytime soon. South look alot quicker and will take it up to the top sides. Could see alot of improvement from this side during the year depending on injuries

nope im not teags, he is happily spending his weekends on the farm at mount mcintyre and on the jet ski at lake leake. i see you took down your trivia question for me bulldogsbark. something about a team of the century? more rubbish from you snitzel, havent seen you or anyone else declare their name. oh and no im not a redhead. this isnt flipping guess who, its a western border forum if youve all forgotten

lol - nothing wrong with a game of Guess Who - if you've been at the club 8 years and played reserves footy then there is every chance we are premiership teammates... did you play in the 2004 flag down at Casterton? :)

PS: Not surprised Teags has given it away, he had glass shoulders back when i was running around! Courageous player though, loved the way he went about it!

Anyone from hamilton give us an idea how the outlook is for the 2 sides down there. A merge and joining the hampden league has been suggested numerous times. Is any of this at all plausible. Future outlook in the Wbfl?
Its no doubt the hampden league will take hamilton and portland as they' re surviving on 8 teams and could face 7 with port fairy struggling.
Why would the hampden league survive and wbfl not?

Why not Port Fairy to the WBFL? The league will likely lose a team to a minor league....dont like it but seems probable. Port Fairy may be the perfect replacement.

Port Fairy are only just hanging on in the Hampden League and have been doing so for a long time. Without the Melbourne / Geelong based players they are not competitive. They would be more likely to drop back to the Warrnambool & District League if Hampden could coax a few of your teams across if the WBFL fell over.

The WBFL wont be going anywhere anytime soon!!! Hows the hampden league going to survive with just 7 teams?

You are probably right. I think the Hampden league would look to move on Hamilton and Portland if Heywood fell over or dropped back into the SWDFL. There would be some pressure at that point for Imps or possibly a combined Hamilton side to come this way. The distance factor is killing a lot of leagues and competition for players has never been stronger.

Since Colac left the Hampden League, the geographical centre of the league has shifted back to Warrnambool which would make the travel for Hamilton & Portland less of an issue.

Who knows these are just my thoughts but there will be some changes at some point.

lets not worry who will fold first, lets talks about this weeks games, they all should go to plan judging on form but you never know.

heard Millicent not get many at training and coach is flogging those that are there?

surely millicent couldnt beat west...... yeh i heard the same,,,, alot not happy with the coaches methods at the moment..... maybe they should play better and they will have good trainings.. i think i can see an upset of imps beating portland,,,,wat u think??????

Aker will be playing for heywood this season.
it will be a one game thing just like he is doing for a fair few country football teams. there was a story on afl website about him playing on the weekend wnere he copped a knock.
it said that he will play for heywood and 2-3 other country teams still this season as well as play for glenorchy.
i wouldnt know how much he is getting paid but someone mentioned around 100k for 12 games in tassie. and each time he has played there has been a big gate. on the weekend they said it was triple what they normally get.

Heywood should just shut up shop! You would think that they would have learnt last year that $$ doesn`t build a club and aker won`t save them. He might bring people to the game but he won`t save heywood. There current coach is a $$ man, so were the boys last year and so is aker and look where they are sitting!!! Wake up and smell the roses for christ sake!:D

Fair crack of the whip on Dean at Millicent....He has every right to be hard on the players, they've been molly coddled for far too long, and can't handle criticism when being told a few home truth's. Don't put the blame on Dean, the blame is on most of the players that can't handle more than a slap over the wrist and thought this yr would be a walk in the park after last yr's success.

absoulutley agree with ya bigant,,,,, but also, isnt it the coaches job to make sure the players dont think that. thats why they employ coaches

Maybe last yr Dean did get the best out of this group, and it was a bloody good effort where he got them. As much as they played on hard work and team effort with some skill, this yr they have'nt got it....perhaps some of the playing group thought it was 'just' going too happen this yr !? Is it time for out with the old and bring up some of the kids regardless of how early the season is.
It's not a personal attack on the saints its an opinion, and i think you will find most saints supporters and members will agree.

I believe dean has played 7 or 8 under 18, 16's already!! Who do you suggest should be dropped, probably 2 senior players playing well, a couple playing injured. What do you suggest drop duldig, bryant, haggett, robbins and tilley back into the 2's...Im sure chittles wont mind. I think dean will continue to play kids and with 4 or 5 players returning over the next few weeks it will put pressure on spots.
Thats a bit silly slash....three most consistent players this yr have been Duldig & Ags & Jack Sulli, the rest have been a raffle. The rest of the 21-22 need too lift. Reputations don't worry Dean at all...so don't be shocked if he pulls a rabbit out of the hat that might shock you.

I don't see what else he can do far as playing list goes - Apart from injured players I believe he has used everyone that could potentially play A grade
The whole crux of it is improvement/belief within....i'd love it they came out for the rest of the yr turned it around - prove the doubters wrong !!

You are a wanka! They have to try something.. Anything at this stage. Good on them for keeping aflot for this long. Who wouldn't go watch aker play?? He will be a draw card and hopefully bring some extra cash into the club. Sure he might charge abit but the club should profit from it! Your opinons should be kept to yourself. There shit!!!!!!!!!!

Who was that directed at!!! But you are right, there's not too many guys that get the opportunity to play with a triple premiership player and brown low medalist so it should be a good experience for heywood and millicent players. Heywoods under 18's are looking okay and how is the depth under 16' s down. Perhaps he future for heywood is not that bad!!!

you are a knob mate.fence sitter i would say.dont think you would have a club to follow ,who would want people like you.like you said, wake up and smell the roses!!!!!:thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

not sure what is happening down at millicent, should have come out firing for the grand final rematch, but key players such as murry, nitschke and co seemingly didnt show up. north vs west and east vs south this weekend should be good games though

heywood in the last 5 years or so have had reasonable under 18 sides the exception beinging 2 years ago when they didnt fiels a side. there under 14 and 16 sides are always in the finals but the problem seems to be once they get to senior level they stay for a year or so and then go to a minor league of disapear... seems to be a long standing culture at the club and im not sure how u can change it...

So, we get the picture at this point that Millicent are right back to where they were 3 years ago. Going to go out and say it right now, (because i can) Imps will defeat Millicent this week. To partner this comment, im also going to say that the winner of the North V West game at Vansittart Park this wknd will clash with Portland come September for the flag.

Anyway... I think we should do this:
Premiers: west
Wooden Spooners: heywood
League Medal: england ransom
Biggest Improver from 10: imps
Biggest Slider from 10: heywood/south
Goal Kicker: jarred holt
Most expensive team: hamilton
...

May be a little early for some, (only those who dont wish to put themselves out there) but are their thoughts and expectations matching what exactly's happening in the WBFL. Capewell great start to a goalkicking award. Doubly great considering he was rumoured to be hanging them up last year. Stand out players so far?!

As much as this is forthcoming, what you say is quite true, except for one thing about Keags being a money man in which i dont think he is. I dont think Heywood are using Aker to ''save'' them as such, rather accepting the fact that they're season isn't about winning premierships but maybe restoring something IF anything to the township and club via publicity through Aker. I hope that he smoothes over the negative hole that last years coach left and that they can move forward in the future.
