Re: Western Region FL - Division One - Part 2

Good effort by the Dragons:thumbsu:

Have heard a whisper that Manor Lakes may form a club but you can take Brimbank Gardens off the list. The 2 grounds there has been allocated to a soccer club.

Sunshine Heights will be moving to Brimbank Gardens (99% confirmed) for 1 year next season and sharing with soccer as our ground is getting re surfaced, our social rooms renovated and new change rooms built. When we move back in 2012 we will have a surface and facilities as good as anyone in the comp.

That's good news GBF50, with moving to Brimbank Gardens you may even pick up a couple of junior teams which is what you guys need.

Re: Western Region FL - Division One - Part 2

I have had alot of time on my hands so here we go.

Division 3 1998 (last year WRFL had Div 3) here are the clubs involved:

Sunshine Heights - Premiers - now in Div 1
Gladstone Park - Runners up - now folded
Kealba - now folded
Flemington - now folded
Laverton - now Div 2
Brooklyn - SFL now folded
Brunswick Amatures - now folded
Rockbank - RDFL

1999

Division 2 became a 16 team competition
Division 1 I believe was still a 12 team comp

other teams to fold or kicked out of the league since 1999

Newport, Nth Melb Ken, Central Altona, seddon (merge with yarraville)
any more let me know.
now we have Division 1 10 team and div 2 10 team

new senior teams in the league since 1999???
can any one help..

We are including a new senior team in 2011 Caroline Springs.
so i dont see a need at this point in time for a div 3 need anoter 3 to 4 clubs to join.

does anyone out ther know of any other teams from other leagues that
would be crazy enough to join our competition.

Growth areas in the west Caroline springs(2001), Manor Lakes, Brimbank Gardens.
all huge areas with plenty of family homes. (new senior teams to start in 5 to 7 years.)
(point cook - sorry shafted the WRFL clubs)

I dont know the politics of this, but why dont the WRFL try and get Williamstown, Werribee, and or Point Cook into the league.
All 3 teams are situated in and around teams that compete in the WRFL...
With those 3 teams, plus Caroline Springs... the WRFL would significatly grow, as it would add greatly to the depth of the competition.
All three teams field junior teams in the WRFL, and it would make perfect sense for the seniors to change over aswell...

Mabye the League need to offer incentives or rewards for them to join, ie; Finicial support, improved facitlies, or to set up sponorships...

3 of the biggest suburbs in the West, are not competing in the WRFL Seniors, IMO it is a big contributer to the reason the League is not as strong as other Metro leagues...

Re: Western Region FL - Division One - Part 2

albion had a big win against stalbans, What happened to the saints?? 6 weeks ago they looked very strong and a certain for top3 but have lost the last 2 or 3 games?? and are now back were most people would have them for the end of year. albion are very hard to beat at home and play a solid hard hitting game suited for their ground! will be interesting to see how they play at altona who are going just as well, who will finish the year with a double chance?

Werribee will not be headed back to the wrfl for a long time.

Hey ROCK07,
You must be feeling pretty good about yourself??
First season after they sack you the club fails to make finals. Quick fall from grace for such a strong wrfl club.

I know for a fact that ROCK07 would be spewing his beloved colts are not going to feature in September. You are right though liarliar, the club should never have replaced him.

Would love to see him reinstated the the years end and have the club return to the top of the WRFL:)

Altona just seem to keep amazing everybody not even they would have thought they could be 2nd with 3 games left

Big test is this week if they can beat albion they should finish 2nd or worst 3rd

I think most people would have been surprised to see someone like Miles leave a club like Hoppers for Altona but seems he made a preety good call looking at it right now

Wouldn't at all be surprised to see the Rock play the remainder of the season in the 2's. Thus qualifying to play finals for colts in the 2's.

That is such a stupid statement, even if i had stayed away from the club i would have the boys to have as much success as possible.
Now i'm apart of it i am truly shattered we are not part of finals action, it mite be a fall down the ladder, how ever things are not as bad as they look, there is not alot between 2nd to 7th and we have had alot if injuries and unavailabilty, i'm sure the club will be back in the finals next year.

Your right definately spewing we will not be finals bound.
Wrong though about replacing m i think it was the right decision, i was a bit stale and i'm sure the boys wanted a fresh voice, i'm also enjoying just playing and being one of the boys. I will continue to play next year in the two's and then after two years away from being a player/coach i will be ready to coach a senior team.
That may be in another league or even in the wrfl but it will not b at the colts!!

That's correct buddy, i went back to play in the two's only but as stated earlier the club has been decimated with injuries and unavailabilty.
Tell Grant i'm after another 10 this week...hahhahhaha

Simple answer.$$$$$ These clubs do not want to and cannot compete with the big dollar clubs. It becomes a bottomless pit.Werribee should go upto C grade in the Ammo's which is a pretty good standard.Williamstown may go up as well if a few things go their way. Point Cook are finding their feet as a club and the Ammo's is the best environment for them for now. I know a lot of you guys won't agree, but a salary cap has to be considered if you want your competition to survive in the long term.Whilst the West continues to grow so does soccer which is the biggest threat in the next few years.Football Victoria needs to get off its backside and start spreading the word and some serious dollars in developing the game in the schools instead of spending millions in Sydney & Qld.I would rather have root canal than watch a game of soccer.

I've figured it out, you are either Reece Miles or you are his old man, if you are his old man then get out of your son's a$s and let him be his own man and if you are Miles then that's enough about yourself, just keep playing good football.

The funny thing is, Werribee don't pay thier players and they would beat 85% of the WRFL. Willy would beat 80%. Both would be better than the bottom half of the ladder sides that now play in Div 1.

Do some people think that some players in the WRFL are cheating the system by being sub par and getting a wage. Good luck to them, but what you get at ammo sides are people playing for the jumper, unlike numerous big recruits that come into the wrfl that could not give a stuff.

That is why Werribee and Willy will stay in the VAFA. I imagine when Point Cook finds their feet, that they will want to stay for the same reasons.

so there is not even a slight possibility that the colts can make finals? if they win their last 3 games? If St Albans win only one, or Hoppers??? maybe they don't deserve to be there but mathematically ?

It's the "chicken or the egg" scenario. Who is worse, the players for asking for the $$ or the clubs for paying it? Probably both to blame.

On Comparing the 2 leagues there are positives and negatives for both. I am sure that alot of players do not really like having to travel all over the place like the Ammos do which makes the decison between comps easy for some. Wil lbe interested to see which way all the Point Cook kids go in the future.

Point Cook are a interesting case. If they become successful pretty soon, and develop a great club culture (which im sure they are), then they will find that they will retain a large portion of thier kids. Werribee have lost some really good players over the time, either to geelong leauges or WRFL.

Carsons, Mentha, Bloomfield, Morrow's, etc

However still keep some guns, through the club being a great club. Im sure that some will move on, but the higher standard that they play, the more attractive the club looks to outsiders. If Werribee can establish themselves in B grade, retain the strong juniors they have always had, they will be able to keep most kids, and people that have left will come back.

If point cook can build thier club in the same way, they too will have good success at the ammos. Old Westbourne and Willy cyms too. All four seem to have a good cultures. Which they have to when they are not paying thier players to be there.

The WRFL is a good comp. However something needs to be done to level it out a little.

Too many one sided results will steer people away, and If one of the ammos sides is playing a high standard, some may get sick of watching beltings every week and go watch a grade of footy that is pretty even at the top, and that is the ammos.

Well st.albans nd hoppers play each other and them hoppers pay west and st.albans play glenoden, both guaranteed wins and then 1win they ply each other. We are to far behind to catch up.

ROFL anyone knowing of Miles i doubt he would know what the internet is

Nah just use to watch him at Hoppers and was a big fan of him then

No need to have a cry mate

only averages 2 a game against spotty and sunshine-the two best teams in the league, had a bag against altona and st albans- two fair teams .the red headed freak has a 20 goal lead.
