Anyone know what happens on Anzac Day?

There is legislation that bans the playing of sport before 1pm on Anzac Day. The league might be able to get an exemption because they dont charge admission fees, but some leagues around town that do will have problems.

Are the 18s and Reserves still on that day? Will (or should) there be a night game perhaps at St Albans or Chirnside Park?

We (Glen Orden) play Sunshine Heights in the opening round. Should be an interesting match! It will give both teams an indication as to which direction the clubs are travelling in.
Its our 3rd year in the division now , the first two years were about consolidating our position. This year is about being able to take the next step and push for a finals berth.

Potential Players are seeing that once you get past the second and third hand information that people spin about the club that it is a great place to play football.

maybe but saw first hand in three or four homes games last year how supporters can screw it up for the club. players getting involved in an outside fight doesnt help. part of getting rid of problems is admitting that there are problems. new players are only impressed until someone f..ks up and proves the 2nd or 3rd hand information wasnt far off. when u played footy u played well.

Some interesting clearances been updated. Kieran Murphy to Sunshine (although refused at the moment), former priest medalist Rusty douglas back to sunshine and a guy from Sunbury who I hear is a very handy pickup and has some size. Looks like the kangas may be in for a good year and pending on other clearances looks like the woodsmen may struggle to replace some of there departures (again pending on contracts) with crackers, harris, mcghie and patak looking like leaving, although they could be holding there cards close to there chest with arrivals. Albion have looked to add some more quality but with this many new recruits over the last year or so, you would have to question the team chemistry with a few long time loyal players maybe missing a spot. St Albans currently look they have broken even on recruits. Seems that it could be one of the most even years in Div 1 for some time which would be good for a change.

It was the ONE home game not 3 or 4 which there was an incident at,all instigated by an opposition player kicking a ball from point blank range at a young kid(11 year old) standing directly behind the goals. The ensuing fight was out of control, both clubs to blame for the fight, and its all in the past.Measures are in place to make sure things like that don't happen again.

We have had one clearance from our club from last year and have been able to pick up another 6-7 guys who will play in the 1's, All our recruits from last year have signed on again this year, which speaks for itself.

I think a big part of being consistent in the league is player retention, All the great teams have had their core together for at least 3-4 years. Look at the Colts, they have been so good so many years because of their core group staying together and their ability to be able to bring in 2-3 guys .

exactly what I mean, both clubs are to blame is a b.s copout coz i saw two or three blokes fightin off a heap of drunks who were part of glenorden. the fight was out of control coz the drunks wanted it to be. in 3 or 4 games that I saw oppo players were threatened by spectators when going to the huddle and a couple of full forwards were tugged at by the INNOCENT kids (older then 11) behind the goals when trying to get a run up from fence . I live around the corner so i would come and watch and see the older blokes laughin at the kids almost eggin them on. the fight your talkin about was brewing all day with spectators runnin down to the fence to have a crack at a opposition player when he was up against the fence and then some big bloke cracks the president and then players jump the fence aswell. want more? big bloke tries to drag a player under the fence and fix him up. 1 player kicks the ball at a kid was the excuse the ferals were lookin for and ur players had no excuse for jumpin the fence to get into it. the crap started in the ressies and was almost like the hawthorn draw a line in the sand thing. i want to see more games where the side pushes real teams and not shake my head at the p..s heads around the fire.

saw some of ur pickups in the local rag. Corr will be will need a lot of work to get his skills up for div1. radcliffe from werribee will be ok but will struggle against the real sides in his first year of senior footy, he didnt set the world on fire in the 18's. keeping players is ok but these players have to be good div1 players and not just coz they wont get a game elsewhere. Port kept quality players that were streets ahead of your current group and this is not meant to offend its just a fact. i know some blokes at glenorden who are good people so for there sake I hope season 09 is a good one without the hassles.

I hear it's true that the president had exactly the same thing done to him in the GF, I suppose he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time twice?????
T
here is no excuse for kicking a ball at an 11 year boy, which is exactly how old he is. Once that happened there was always going to be fireworks. He added the fuel to a fire, before that happened it was just words. You get at every other ground from every other supporter group. Players will always cop stuff off other supporters it's a part of football. It's all dead and buried now(well until we play each other again)

Never comparing Glen Orden to the Colts, there is no comparison, just pointing out that it's how you build a strong team.
The guys you mention are only three of our pickups we have players who played in Division one teams last year, crossing over to us this year. Not because of they can't get a game because they want to be part of something.

players are supposed to be protected from being physically interfered with its that simple. played against colts on many occasions and was called many things by the boys who drink near the van. not once did they try anything physical.

as for the president dunno what happened in the gf but can tell you that at glenorden the big bloke layed into him and some coward then came through from the side and did most of the damage. dont get me wrong i hope you smash spotswood when you play them but won't buy their club having to take equal responsibility for the brawl. ur supporters got the excuse they wanted coz I could see it building up all day. if that didn't happen, they would have found another one. ur right its only dead and buried until they play eachother again so what has been done to stop this from happening again?

on to the footy. u were able to play some good footy when the boys put their mind on the game. as for your recruits i only knew of a couple and not the rest. tellin about the boys who have signed from div1 clubs is what i was after, how good are they?

Fixture will be up later this week on the fixture tab also clearances have been updated

Kev you have obviously have some pull in at headquarters, clearances updated and fixtures updated on the fixtures tab. Good work. Good to hear that the software issues sorted themselves out and all info could be uploaded.

From what i can see:
-4 players put in clearances from spotty, all refused. Why refuse Harris's clearance? Isn't he coaching Lara?
- 9 departing hoppers, two in at this stage.
- 4 departing colts, none in as yet.
- 2 departing St Albans, also is Hollow staying/ going? did hear he was training back at his EDFL club.
- Albion 2 departures and 7 inclusions (big early movers).
- Altona 3 departures, no inclusions
- Orden 2 departing and 9 inclusions
- Heights 0 departing, 3 inclusions
- West 4 departing and no inclusions
- Kangas 4 departing, 7 inclusions

So far the four departing Sunshine are:
-Frost, played majority of the year in twos last year but in the couple of years before that played consistently in the ones.
- Hayes, played reserves all year
- The two other players played reserves with sunshine two to three years ago however have not played since.

Agree with an earlier post, not much on the inclusion side of things with Spotty, hoppers and Colts however there is still time for them to release the cards from their chest.

We are pretty happy with the signing (and i notice on the website his clearance has been approved) of Keegan Powell from Sunbury. A solid onballer who moves well and will no doubt flourish playing in the more pack orientated WRFL footy. Rusty Douglas back on board with the kangas is also a huge get, and one that is sure to bolster our midfield stocks.

Will be an interesting fortnight on the wrfl's clearances page. Will be interesting to see if a few of the refused clearances are eventually approved and also what some other clubs have up their sleeve.

I believe you have also picked up a ruckmen, just wondering if you have picked up any key position players, especially backmen. This has been where you have fallen down in past. Although you will need to improve alot on last year, very dissapointing.

Colts have lost no current players on the clearence board, the ones that have put in have not played at the club for a few years, sutcliffe has been at port melb and it is very dissapointing he did not return to the club but that's footy.

We have not signed anyone just yet but have a few quality young kids from another wrfl A grade u/18 side training and look set to play, also will have a couple of quality premiership players returning to bolster our depth, have another former junior that has been at port melbourne for two years coming back, tall and athletic will hold down a key back spot, which will help release bonnett up the field. Lost our chf chris brannan but are close to signing a big strong chf/chb from the bush that played in the EFL last year. Taylor/Millen have retired , but all in all we feel that we will be evry bit as good as last year.
It's good to see hoppers, sunshine and albion recruiting strongly and look forward to a very even 09 seasonnot just at the top either.

You have hit the nail on the head, no new key defenders signed at this stage, two in the pipeline though. Correct, we have also signed a ruckman. Correct, last year was extremely average, everyone involved is looking to make amends.

Also Travvy you have signed Evan Henry from West Footscray who is a very good midfielder. I don't think he played last year but behind McGhie was probably their best player in 07'.

Well the kangas should have very good depth after winning the reserves premiership and the senior list improving alot, could be in for a good year.

Any losses??? josh linton??

I think the ruckmen that Sunshine have signed is named Almond (possibly Jarred, read it in the local paper 2 weeks ago and cant remember 100%). Was a Brisbane Lions Rookie 4 or 5 years ago and I beleive 200cm.

Havn't seen Lintons name on the clearence list. Is he definately gone or a smoke sign by the Kangas?
Linton has gone, he is playin for Kyabram in the GV. We have also lost Bright OS and Hill who has gone back to Colbinabbin. Add Frost to that and we have only lost the 4 players who played senior footy last year. I think the recruits we have picked up should more than cover our losses. However there is alot we have to improve on if we want to make any sort of impact on the top 5. We were miles off the mark last year.

Has the league picked up any Ex AFL players this year?
Nothing increases the credibility of the league more than hearing about Ex AFL joining the league.

Are you considered as a new recruit now that your at Sunshine full time. If you have this new ruckman where will you play Miller???

I think Quinn could be considered 0.5 (!!) of a recruit. Having him full time is a big bonus for us. The boy is going good, barely missing a session.

Millar obviously had a good year for us in 08 winning the b&F playing predominately in the ruck. Almond, i hear is also handy up forward so having him and millar changing ruck and up forward will make them a solid combination for us in 09.

You lacing up the boots again in 09?

Still undecided at the moment.

Sounds like you will end up with a stack of mid fielders in your side again. Whats that young kids name? MacInernie he's tall, a good player?? He finished strong last year when we played you, he plays well very mobile, just needs to commit to the ball when in the air a bit more. Whose going to replace Linton???? Maybe you

Would anyone agree that Linton was in the same mould as Webb from Colts. Good finisher running of half back, but a bit of a distraction for the side and not really gunna be missed? or maybe just my view.

No Linton not in the same mould as webb, at least webb would go in for the ball and play hard when needed whereas Linton was the biggest hangout since the Tunnel night club. In saying that Linton could still play and read the play well and I guess everytime team needs an outside player who can use the ball well but I am sure sunshine will replace him no worries.

Linton will be missed and him and Webb might fall into the crowd but thats part of their competive nature not saying its right. I know any club would take either of them straight away.

You could tell if Linton is going well its a sign that Sunshine are going well

Colts missed Webb of half back last year also he's a leader and gets the best out of players around him.
