From the same town as the incomparable Joanna Newsom, Mariee Sioux (her full name is Mariee Sioux Sobonya) is no Newsom but her sound is distinctive for its amazingly soft textures. Her three albums Faces in the Rocks (2007), Gift for the End (2013) and Grief in Exile (2019) are delicately poetic – quieter that just about any music you will have heard – with a deep focus on the natural world.
