I'm trying to track down the definition of a tackle for stats purposes. There's a lot of tackles that I don't think get counted, so wondering if anyone knows if there's some sort of criteria that must be satisfied for it to count as a tackle on the stats sheet?

Tackles are recorded when a player stops an opposition player with possession of the ball from getting his kick or handball away in a legal manner. The tacklers action must change the course of play. A tackle will be recorded if a player is legally pushed off his kick or handball resulting in that possession going directly to the opposition or out of bounds on the full. Tackles are NOT recorded if laid in a scrimmage play and / or gang tackles and results in a ball up. A tackle is NOT recorded when in laying a tackle illegally a free kick is conceded.

Does anyone know what happens when say, someone gets a mark in the backline and the siren goes. They then kick the ball to the umpire or just bomb it down the ground. Does this count as a kick?

No, they have to attempt to shoot at goal for it to count.

why do we get these shi* threads each week, every week we get a crap thread that will get 10 posts, just do a bit more searching. this thread has happened about 3 times already this year.... ur question is a objective question which requires only one post to answer it, therefore post it in a existing thread, dont create a new one ok?

are you sure? i think you might be wrong there.

if the player hasn't played on from a mark, he is still in possession of the ball so his disposal will be counted as part of a qtr that is if the kick is taken without playing on i think it is counted.

at least that was my understanding of it, maybe im wrong but that what i thought and was told

I remember reading it in a prospectus a couple of years back.

Kick doenst count.

Last week, Tuck took a mark before the siren... he wasnt even awarded the mark, let alone the kick.

F me Stat Machine and mortizy, if it's so bloody annoying just don't look at the thread. Not hard. If it's terribly upsetting for you that there's one extra topic on the forum then you've probably got your own issues you need to address.

Its not just "one extra topic" mate. If 4-5 people do it, and then its 4-5 extra threads, which is about a third of the front page.

look between your legs - if it dangles - it's a tackle :thumbsu:

I might start another thread on this next week.
Go ahead, it will just re-assure everyone that you are a troll, not to mention a colorful card sitting for you in your inbox and a door being shown as well.

Seriously, pull your head-in, once this board starts getting clogged up like a toilet from a bunch of immature people like yourself continually filling it with toilet paper threads we will all know who is to blame.

Most people, including myself were more than willing to answer your question and now that it has been answered just move on, obey the forum rules or get out.
