There used to be some debate and exchange of good ideas for International football here...but now it seems it is just rehashing of articles of the press!!

Has the debate moved somewhere else -and I just missed it????

And if I did miss it...can someone just tell me where to look.....I'm too old and lazy to find it myself:rolleyes:

But if I have to start something myself....New Guinea will win the International Cup by at least 5 goals...against NZ. USA will be the big dissapointments, closely followed by England who are just hopeless at any form of competitive sport! Canada will do well, but won't dare exceed tthe USA, and South Africa won't win a game but the AFL(sponsored by ARL) will give them squillions of dollars just so they will take any form of talent away from Rugby!

Japan will win 2 games and the entire AFL coaching community will embace them as good hard battlers - and the Scandies will be 3 wins and 3 losses which will be fine because you can't expect more from little countries - didn't exceed expectations and they haven't offended anybody.

But all in all - it will be a fantastic tournament! Just 10 years ago this was a pipe dream - wishing all the participants the very best!!!

Basically it is because there are some very good people doing a very good job .
On average there is a new Article at least every day .
Gone are the days of having every country's site on a list .
I can go to at least two sites and be linked to every other site .
Things aren't perfect , but things are ticking over nicely when you consider
that most of it is done with little or no assistance .
Even so some news that would have been big before hasn't even hit the news .
Like a Vancouver team formed the Saints and immediately beat the dominant Cougers .
Or belated articles like a new Ottawa team taking the OAFL back to 10 teams
and a new team forming in Quebec .

As for the IC , again it's a very interesting call .
NZ benefits from the Interaction with Australia .
PNG the same , but their pathway juniors too young at this stage .
USA should have the benefit of 2 WAFL players , but is not homgenious .
Canada is homgenious and always improves but so does everybody else .
Ireland seems to not be moving ahead
UK's improvement should see them in the middle
RSA players are still yet to mature to become a force .
Pacific islands will do very well .
Japan's improvement probably will only keep them in same realtive position .

If you want debate , how about should the AFL perservered and had
an IR test in Sydney ? Even though it's not Australian Football it would
show Sydney siders a new face to AR .

:)

In the words of one J.McEnroe .... you CANNOT be serious !!!!!!!!!!!!

Terry, Terry, Terry ... where WERE you on June 14 ??? Come on ... home ground and the weather didn't make THAT much difference.

Just a slight correction..England aren't competing in the IC, however Great Britain are. :)

Totally agree with you Cudaman that England is hopeless at sport!! ;)

Come on the mighty Bulldogs!

Politics and trolls killed it.

The media and AFL are doing a much better job these days.

And there are some great blogs like theroar.com.au and worldfootynews.com which posts some great (generally more informed) opinion pieces.

I used to have enthusiasm for it. Now I just take them to the main board, because I figure that eventually it will be big enough for it.

Finland will beat Israel-Palestine...

... if they don't it will be due to attrition and lack of numbers since the Finland guys have to fund everything themselves.

Japan will beat Sweden and will probably beat Denmark

Who doesn't (aside from the I/P team)?

Probably India & China !!! so - as far as financials go - Finland is in the pool of death, being the only self funded team.

I know all you other guys have a tough time too... but my comment on attrition is only related to a match up between Finland and Peace Team.

When did you last see Denmark play, or Sweden for that matter?

I played for Finland against Sweden last year - and they killed us. But I have played for some really good footy teams against Japan and been beaten.

Note that I only said "probably" regarding a win over Denmark.

Having said that... with most teams in this pool... they have to get drawn against each other first.

Some interesting rivalries here, based on both history and footy.

These are the games I would like to see, with my predictions in bold:

PNG v NZ

USA v Canada

Ireland v Great Britain

Samoa v Tonga

Denmark v Sweden

Japan v China

How many people turn up to these matches?

why don't you come along and find out.

It will be interesting to see with the increased awareness, just what sort of crowds they pull this year.

The AFL has certainly downscaled things, probably with the expectation of small interest and crowds. It is a shame they started with stadiums and are now going back to parks. Should have been the other way around IMHO.

May be a mixed bag though. Some people may now expect the games to be of low quality whereas they get better each tournament. Others might be keen to check it out for the first time. But the venues may put them off. I for one prefer to sit in a stand above the play. At Royal Park I don't even know if I'm supposed to bring my own chair !

so by the same logic... is Melbourne vs North Melbourne an AFL Blockbuster ???

I don't think that Japan can play China - different pools.

For the record - the China Blues and the Japan Goannas have met once before (6th November 1999 in Shanghai) with China running out winners.

Eligibility rules obviously more relaxed for the Blues & the Goannas in that match, than they are for the Chinese team and the Samurais in the IC.

Have I missed something?
Some of the comments in this thread imply that some sort of draw or at least poolings have been announced. I'm not aware of anything.
Is there any news in this area?

has every country got a ground they can train at or a local club they have an alianment with?

i know box hill north have something to do with the japan national side
