What I enjoyed about Carlton's loss tonight

It really makes no difference that carlton lost against the Tigers.

They are building for the entire season, and are focused on putting together wins which can set them up for a shot at the flag.

Last night's game was a practise run... all went very well

I enjoyed CarLOLton's new captain spudding it up big time only for the true import merc captain saying to himself "I better do something here because Murph is out of his depth"
and he played his first-and perhaps last game as captain-30 years after his father became captain of fitzroy

Laidler, Scotland and Bell/Curnow for starters. Waite, Graham, Menzel and monster Mitchell in due course. Carlton team is far from settled.
Is that the same Laidler that Aaron "Lockup" Edwards kicked 5 goals in a quarter on after being released from prison for being pissed moments earlier? Must have been one helluva hangover yet still kicked 5. Laidler is trash.

I liked that malthouse learnt this:
McLean is was and always will be a spud
Yarran is soft
Lucas is a spud
Joseph should be playing in the bush 2nds
Bootsma is skinny
Duigan should take that trip to Africa now
Walker can't kick
Casboult can't kick
Hampson can't kick
Murphy isn't a captains arseh*le
Simpson needs a shave
Henderson is ordinary
Jamison is over rated
You left out Gibbs having played his one good game for the year already.

Don't be shy JaB, tell us what warmed your heart tonight :D

The coach got to see how well each player stands up to adversity. Pretty extreme test and therefor a good one. No rotations for much of the game against an opponent who had to win. So I am enjoying the distinct possibility of not ever having to watch a few players who aren't up to it - be quietly moved on. Was a weird game to go and watch tbh.

Really? Thought you'd be used this as carltank's been continuously dishing these out

At the ground you dont really know what the injury situation is - except for the obvious - Ellard being subbed and Yarran disappearing. You don't knwo Murphy has done an ankle, Jamison hi shoulder ( gain) and Armfield playing injured. You do knwo Kreuzer shouldn't have played and you do expect to see the usual spuds - spud it up.

All you can see is that the other team is moving faster and spreading better - and they are kicking easier goals. Then the game changes with one positional change - and they nearly steal a game on the back of four player's efforts in one quarter. Weird , very weird game.

Lets be fair here. Yarran is well capable of disappearing without the hint of an injury. At least he wasn't taking up a spot on the ground.

I'm glad JaB saw some positives from last night.:(
Really only 2 positives for this Carlolton supporter (i.e me):

Cachia had a good dip of it despite the rest of the midfield epically failing around him and is a good hard nut (hopefully we don't manage to "develop" this out of him! Hardness is just not how we do things Jaryd... for shame)

Hendo showing leadership and footy nous where we sorely lack it.

Sorry JaB  Bay and all it's hard to find anything to talk up about last night's game.

P.S I suppose I could add Robbo smashing Milne off the ball (fairly).

So you think that Carltank will move Judd, Murphy, Gibbs,Robison,Betts on do you?

Carlton lost the game by 9 points after a pretty ordinary run of injury during the match - I wouldn't get too disconsolate after last nights game. Just as St Kilda supporters aren't exactly fooled by their win into thinking that their side is anything but shit.:thumbsu:
