Marty McFly has done himself a mischief and has altered the course of Aussie footy in ways you can't imagine!
Get ready to dive into alternate futures!

What is “What If” Wednesdays?
"What if" Wednesdays was a competition comprised of real-life football team proposals, merger propositions, former teams and a few hypotheticals brought to life by the FJGD community (eg. If the Melbourne-Hawthorn merger went ahead, if University/Fitzroy/Bris Bears stuck around, if Gold Coasts nickname were the Lifesavers etc.) it became this boards longest running competition (8/9/14 – 29/5/19). It has been revived under a meme cultured spin-off! Time traveller sneezes memes are all about butterfly effects on various things caused by a time traveller altering the past by means of a simple sneeze.

What’s new this time around?
This time or these times around, we will be flung into various timelines where our universes former teams, mergers, relocation proposals never existed or had its outcome altered slightly or severely! The list below is comprised of alternate timelines and the butterfly effect caused by our cheeky time traveller. Your job is to envision this outcome! Each comp will run for 1 week and the poll will run for 3 days. The winner picks the next team from the list below or can use their one-time self-imposed idea where they put forward an idea not listed below.

There are some routes you can go by if you're stuck:
  • The chosen team has entered their designated competition in the current year (unless specified) along with the current teams OR
  • You may design kits at any point in time unless strictly specified OR
  • Accompany your kits with a backstory on how the team came to be to help better envision the outcome
  • Use Google to search the history and stories behind what is being altered
Bare minimum for an entry is:
  • A home kit with the front of the jumper showing
    (Back, shorts, socks are optional)
  • OPTIONAL Away kit (Home with white shorts is acceptable)
  • OPTIONAL 3rd kit
    • Clash kit
    • Heritage kit
    • Other kit
  • OPTIONAL Club Logo (Highly Encouraged!)

Let’s see what has happened this time

Our Timeline: Adelaide board settle on a jumper of hoops with SA state colours
Altered Timeline: With little to no concepts put forward, Adelaide board members hastily acquire some sports clothing from a local store and have 5 different colours to work with

THIS WEEKS CONSTRAINTS
We're entering the minds of the Adelaide board with this one and their frantic approach to designing the jumper
Here are the 5 colours from those mentioned pieces of clothing you must work with
Thanks to _Damo_ for providing this weeks idea and the 90's inspired palette
76485.png

A minimum of 2 colours must be used from the palette along with any other colours you want to use
They can be used predominantly (takes up most of the jumper) or negligibly (in small amounts)
You may alter any of the above colours saturation and brightness if need be, just not the hue

Basic Rules (Read Carefully):
  1. Kits and Logo must be in 1 picture (Makes polls easier to fit everything in)
  2. The kits can consist of just a Jumper (Shorts and socks are encouraged to give a full identity effect)
  3. Minimum 1 kit and there's no limit to how many kits you can include after that
eg. Home and Away and/or Clash and/or Heritage and/or Others
    1. Designing a Home and away/clash kit is highly encouraged for that authentic feel and to develop that alternate universe experience
  4. Attempt to stay close to the altered timeline
  5. Directly copying current football team kits/logos are not allowed
  6. Creating a logo is encouraged but you may take inspiration from and/or alter any existing sports logo to drive home your design.
  7. Maximum 2 entries per person
  8. Any questions at all, please ask!
Specific Category Rules:

Colour Corner Rule:

  1. You must stick to the colours/alterations mentioned (eg. for Port Adelaide, you must include Magenta in any way you like, for Adelaide’s hurried kits a minimum of 3 of the 5 colours must be used)

Alternate timeline categories
Bold - Completed with poll results

It's 1990, and Adelaide have been granted their AFL license. Only issue was, with season 1991 approaching, the board were completely stumped on concepts for their jumper! Various board members were seen storming into the local 'Rowe & Jarman' and acquired numerous pieces of sporting attire including jackets, singlets and track pants. A vibrant colour palette was tinkered with for months and eventually settled with a scheme and design that best represents South Australia. The board agreed on the moniker "Crows" months prior and incorporated reversed chevrons on the front and back to simulate a crow flapping its wings. The light blue for their vibrant skies, yellow for the badge on their state flag, burgundy to honour their vast vineyards (realistically, the wine) and its all encompassed by the crows black. The blue, yellow and burgundy are also linked to the SA's usual state colours with a hue change in an attempt to stay unique. People were complexed by the "No rush" slogan during their unveiling, but those few eyewitnesses that day know the exact reason behind it and became one of footballs greatest pieces of folklore

The SANFL, at war with the Port Adelaide Magpies over their tretcherous attempts to enter the AFL in their own right decide to adopt Port Magpies erly 1900s colour scheme of magenta, black, blue and light yellow.
This was done to prevent the Port Magpies from taking much of their identity into the league if they tried in the future, whilst adhering to a colour set similar to the state colours, replacing red with magenta, royal blue with light blue, and gold/yellow with light yellow in addition to the black of Port Adelaide.

They shall be known as the Adelaide Crows, the closest black coloured bird they could find, also aligning with the states "Croweaters" identity.

What If Crows Pres.png
Uh Oh Crows! It's the day before the first game and to the disbelief of many, the newly founded Adelaide Crows are without jumpers! In an last ditch effort to get the game running, the club raced into the Sekem warehouse and bought 22 of the first plain jumpers and shorts available. Once back at the ground, players and staff scrambled to put together a guernsey for the match against the Tigers. Fortunately, the club chose green and purple to make sure of no clashing colours, and used strapping tape with permanent marker to add the team name, a rough sponsor and number to the jumpers to give them some character. With that, the game went ahead, and the Adelaide Crows started their AFL journey as a green and purple monstrosity!

I get the whole cheekiness but this rule was put in to promote more creativity. While it's not a 1 to 1 copy, it is quite direct according to the backstory. Don't fret! A slight variant or recolour of the jumper is allowed. As mentioned in the OP:
You may alter any of the above colours saturation and brightness if need be, just not the hue

Wow, that's bloody clever envisioning the "hurried" part. Makes you wonder how the unveiling would've went down. I can see them running out in that as each piece comes off during the game

Oh unveiling? The team just ran out of the sheds on matchday in the kit and that was that. At half-time most of the tape had ripped off jumpers, and some numbers were reapplied or just drawn straight onto the jumper as best as possible. It was simply a s**tshow

After deciding on their, erm, unique colour palate, the Adelaide board turned their attention to their brand.

Naturally, they were drawn to the culturally rich area of Port Adelaide, more specifically, the famous Black Diamond Corner.

Taking care to avoid conflict with the SANFL's most dominant force, the Port Adelaide Magpies, the Adelaide board decided to lean into the rich cultural tapestry of Port Adelaide without stealing the Magpies thunder (pun intended).

And so, in 1991, the Adelaide Diamonds Football Club was born!
