With the 2011 season on the horizon and rumours spreading that Fremantle will undergo a rebrand spread like wildfire. In the clubs HQ, the idea was to have the red and green removed but due to a miscommunication, the purple and white were removed! Fremantle were unaware and found it to make sense given the green and red better represents the marine side and are the colours of port and starboard. An all black kit with an updated green and red anchor became the home kit and a modernised away/clash kit with the port and starboard colours behind the anchor like the classic jumper

"How 'Using just purple and white, create a design based on the old Fremantle WAFL guernsey' became 'Drop the purple and white, and create a design based on the original Fremantle AFL guernsey', I will never know. A poorly organised game of Chinese whispers? Someone playing a joke? I don't have an answer. At least we got Bunnings as a sponsor for our trouble, I guess."
