But seriously, surely his height concerns are mitigated by the fact that he has made CP3 (fresh off his best PG season ever > Magic '87) his bitch, twice.

As a shorter Tony Parker/Leandro Barbosa, I think he'll find his niche as instant offense off the bench. And he could do it for a good team. Teams like Phoenix, Portland and San Antonio would be salivating at him coming off the bench IMO.

Absolutely and I think one of those teams will nab him just outside of the lottery in the first round.

Like, #1 because he's sooo cute!!!!

Let's see how he goes this NCAA season. He'll need to have an absolute blinder to go top 20 in 09. More likely to do so in 2010. He still has a bit to work on yet.

He's probably worked himself into late first round for a team who wants to grab a young backup. He got to the basket well enough but didn't quite show so much as a passer. Throw in his shakey jump shot, well I'm becoming less convinced with each key I press right now. He definitely won't be the only undersize super quick PG declaring for a draft.

Not to undervalue his performance for our team, he was great, he made things happen and was a little pest on D.

its pretty hard to rack up a big pile of assists in an offense as stagnant as ours and the fact he kept his turnovers down - without playing like a pussy - suggests he makes good decisions with the ball. the fact he's obviously a good kid suggest he has the right mindset to eventually develop into a pretty darn effective playmaker too. obviously you need vision and creativity but half the battle is surely wanting to be a good passer - and i suspect patty does. unlike a lot of american point guards, he also seems like the sort who doesn't throw passes in order to get assists, instead makes a lot of passes that might not show up in the boxscore..

His playmaking/decision making and knowing when to use that speed are probably the things he needs to work on most, from what I have seen and heard. But I wouldn't call his jumper 'shaky', he can light it up from anywhere, and I doubt there will be any other undesized PG's THAT fast (Chris Paul admitted that Pat was faster than him, some ESPN article had him as the fastst player in the world!).

If he can go back to St Mary's and put up about 16/5 and get them the NCAA tourney again (and make some noise), then I think top 20, maybe even top 10 is there for the taking, but that is a big IF.

We still haven't seen him play defense NBA style yet, sure he can torch the taller/slower guards going the other way but will he be a liability against a structured offense?

Having said that how many PG's are over 6'3" anyway? If he is 5'11" he's not going to be that exposed, Jason Kidd is probably the last of the post up PG's, the position has really gone to the quicker driving type of guard.

I will still stand by my assessment of him waiting until the 2010/11 season.

He will stay at St Marys for another 2 years before entering the draft.

Very likely but after these games high stock will be high, if he can back up with a very solid year for St Mary's.......It would be in his best interests to declare.

If your a 90% chance of going in the first round and getting the guarenteed contract, do it.

Thing is look at Deron Williams. He's a bloody unit. In the NBA offense, they'll isolate Mills every time.

I think he'll be a terrific bench point.

12 ppg 3 apg 20 mpg type point.

I hope i'm wrong and he can start but even take Jameer Nelson for example.

He's lightning in the open court and an undersized PG at just under 6 feet, like Mills, but he'd have 15 kg on Patty.

Nelson gets abused when playing guys like Billups.

Very hard to be a staring guard with his body shape.

I agree, but the yanks are ******* with their "sizes & athleticism" and sometimes forget that talent is the key factor here. I think he would probably slide maybe just staying inside the lottery.

I mean, College players get analyzed so much. They'll point out his defects, find only his size and maybe 3 point range but that'll be enough to send him sailing out of the top 10 I'd say.

the shot can be worked on. Brett Maher could not shoot coming out of the AIS. Turned out to be about the best pure shooter in the domestic league.

Let’s not get too far ahead of out self. He was not automatic like he was later in his career but he still had a pretty reliable jump shot. But yes he did improve it over the years.

I think that comparison is a little bit bogus. E.g. If Barbosa was 6"0 I doubt he'd be in the NBA. At 6"3, he's a valuable asset.

Guys at his height who have had recent success in the NBA as scorers are very rare. Aside from Iverson;
Bobby Jackson did it at 6"1, but he was stronger and more athletic.
Boykins obviously did well, but fell out of favour pretty quickly.
Lue did ok, but he's a different sort of player.
etc...

Maybe I'm missing a whole horde of others, but I don't think so. A couple like Mike James and Pargo have had good seasons here and there, but those guys are shooters.

With all that in mind, I'd be shocked if he cracked the top 20. Maybe a veteran team picking in the late 20's will give him a shot as an energy scorer off the bench, but early-to-mid second round is more likely IMO.

TJ Ford is the first one that comes to mind, Mo Williams

Mills can play it well either way really, if he goes out now he will go high enough, but if he finishes college then he will come out in a World championship year and can help his chances there...

I don't think he has too much to weorry about when he wants to start his pro career. Worse case would be for him to play in Europe and make some noise there....plus a decent income...
