What pissed me off this week ?

I belong to two groups , one women only and one mixed sex. We talk about all sorts of stuff and I’ve found it really cathartic to talk about a lot of my most innermost feelings. The group is really non judgmental and accepting. It’s helped me enormously with my anxiety and depression. Oh I thought it was only to one other person lol.

Look am not disagreeing it is great if you can have a supportive environment. Where the problem with a situation above comes or something like RU OK is they can be tokenistic and not achieve its purpose. If you're forced to ask a stranger r u ok etc what do you do if they then say No. Could potentially do worse if you're not qualified to be given that advice.

Best to just say here are the services use if you want. Also not everyone is necessarily supportive or has the same opinion of mental health initiatives which can lead to a huge backfire.

I don’t really get why those conversations are so hard though . It’s not like you were being asked to talk about your sex lives. In my opinion there should be more of this , this society is getting way too disconnected from each other.

What happens if someone wants to share about their sex life? You're then probably up on some form of warning. So you can ask about their lives but certain things at work (and no not just sex) are better off not being discussed.

I think your workplace/boss whoever had their heart in the right place. Just dumb way of executing the whole day.

Yeah, I'm not blaming work. Without going into too many details, we're part of a group of five organisations and there's a set of these events each year where we take turns with the organisation and footing the bill. So this wasn't ours, but I've been through the process: you read through a bunch of speakers, within your price range, go through their bio, a bit of a spiel about what they focus on and then you lock them in. The one that they had last week actually had a few interesting ideas, but it would have been much more useful to take that time having a bit of self-reflection than some token group discussion time, as far as I'm concerned.

Of course, for me, it's all a bit heavy on the captain obvious stuff and devoid of any suggestions on how to fix it. For example, I have two young children, with another on the way: I don't really need to take time to consider that my time is disproportionately dedicated to my family and work and that it would be great to spend more time focusing on resting and catching up with friends. "Just take more time to spend on you" is the sort of advice that you tend to get from these sessions. How do I do that? Beats me.

We lucked out a couple of years back and got Emma Murray (see here and here) for a similar event. Firstly, her story is extremely compelling (she made the point that her grief about her son's accident is greater than that of a parent who's lost a child to a tragedy, because it's in her face every day for the rest of her life, which is a reasonable argument). She's a mindfulness coach and does meditation with the Richmond players, but the crux of her presentation was the idea that our minds are like a miner's helmet: we can only truly focus on one thing at a time effectively. The trick is to set our overwhelming lives up in that way: right here, right now, what do we have to do to succeed? Then you execute that and move on to the next thing. Just set up your day and your life doing that and you'll be amazed at what you're capable of. Now that's some practical advice that can be useful whether it's her, me, or Dustin Martin managing the challenges of our respective lives.

But, long story short, we didn't really know what Emma Murray's speech was going to be. She could have been a complete dud as well. It was just dumb luck on our part that she was absolutely sensational.

Actually speaking of death.. had a bit of a cry last night.

I just realised it was my uncles 20th anniversary this year (heart attack) and no one in my family mentioned it whatsoever. Would have been back in July. My family is pretty much split down the middle at the mo..

Yeah, sometimes the saddest thing is when you actually stop to think that you and/or everyone around you has pretty much moved on with their lives. Reminds me of Bill Simmons (not really known for writing tear jerkers) did this memorial article for his dog.

Our daughter didn't cry. She didn't even seem that upset. When we asked her why, she explained, "It was time for her to go to the moon. I'll see her again some day." Oh.

The day after The Dooze left us, our little boy woke up and my wife carried him downstairs to feed him like she always does. I was still half asleep and could hear her footsteps. Then I heard this: "Day-zee. Day-zee." That part didn't make me sad. The part that made me sad happened three mornings later ... when my wife was carrying him downstairs again and he didn't say anything.

Funerals don't always get me. But things like that get me every time.

You wanna re name The Yarra, you wanna close YOUR rock, you don't wanna work, you're forever chasing hand-outs, you're always thinking.

Yep, we have every girly's game of cricket on but we can't watch the Australian mens team, [without paying] We need you back Kerry.

Damien Fleming, how much longer can this go on.
Julia Morris, how much longer can this go on.
My marriage, how much longer.......

Another land rights claim, this ones for a mere 700 mil.
**** me, the aboriginal population of Australia is what ?
If I had my life over again I would marry one.
My ask is, how come they're not the richest people on earth. Per head per dollar given the poorest aboriginal should have more in the bank than Eddie McGuire

Greenies blaming all the fires in Australia on global warming.
The saturation advertising for Celeb. get me out of here. Complete head ****.
Cricket commentators gushing over NZ test team, what part of hopeless have they missed.

The resort we're staying at for New Year's. I stayed here ten years ago and had an awesome time. I talked the place up last year to get my partner and mate to go with me. The management has changed and this time the service is piss poor and the staff are basically incompetent. Last night they had a buffet dinner, which thankfully we didn't have, which cost $35 and another patron said was basically the food left over from Christmas and New Year.

It's sad but typical of the times. In times past you were treated as a guest and treated accordingly.

Tonight I listen about sports people and supporters donating time and money to the fire cause, why should they.
The bloody Government rip off millions and millions from the public with speeding revenue rip offs, part with some of it you bastards.
I'll bet a dime to a dollar the man in the black car who sits between Bruthen and Orbost everyday has moved to a 40 zone somewhere.
And I'm as sure as **** that from Bruthen to Melbourne there'll be 10 of his mates doing the same.
PS. Someone feel free to post this to 50/50 using cold sober as the sender.

Why is that?
Sometimes a street wise or life experienced friend can give you better advice than a book trained counselor and it's cheaper.
Imo, counselling has become the new ' I can make money and maybe jag a lay' trade.
People are vulnerable , and sadly some take advantage .

Luv tattoo's , have heaps myself, but surely it should be illegal for tattooists to do face jobs.
Bad enough looking at the so called 'I'm a big tough bikie ones' but more and more women seem to be getting them. It's a pathetic and sad look.
No.2. Waiting for the price rises on everything with a price on it to fund the Government fire relief. Outside donations are already over 100 million.
No.3. Waiting for the price rises on everything with a price , shit, too late.
