Opinion What stage of the game did you know we would win?

Yeah Prestia’s goal for me. Even rewatching the game yesterday brought back that same feeling. Knew if we kicked the first goal of the last term that we were on- and the build up to that goal was telling. Swarming runners everywhere, Geelong chasing tail, even the celebration post-goal. I went from very pessimistic at half time to feeling like we’d win it.

Hawthorn supporter here so apologies for the intrusion.

I knew you'd win the moment Geelong beat Brisbane. The only surprise was that it took you more than half an hour to put the Cats away. There are several classes between Richmond and the rest.

You'll probably win it next year too although I reckon Brisbane will challenge.

Congratulations.

At half time I got so bummed I went and watched a youtube video on Quantum Physics (quite interesting it was, too!). Wife told me she thought she must be a bad luck charm so was going to bed :D

I remember looking at the clock in the last quarter and it said 14:14 to go (I think we were 8 points up?) and I started thinking you know Dan, I think we are gonna win it from here. So yeah. 14 minutes to go.

It's funny isnt it? The 3 different feelings over past 3 GF's

2017 - was pure joy and elation and happiness that I finally got to see something I was beginning to think was never going to happen
2019 - was happiness & relief that we could back up that 2017 wasnt a one off
2020 - was happiness but recognising just how lucky we are right now, these things dont last for ever, i have probably reflected more on our past 4 years more this weekend that i have done previously.

What it also meant to me is that I have SEEN (old enough to remember) as many Richmond premierships as

North Melbourne 75-77-96-99
Essendon 84-85-93-00
Carlton - 79-81-82-95

There was a time as you would know that you would have conceded that could never happen.

Those spectators on the ground were a bit of a bad omen but I was relieved that they were male and fully dressed.

Cats with Cameron and Higgins must be a better side along with resolve. Id put my money on them.

Dont see anyone outside the eight challenging next year although Clarko will move you guys in the right direction.

I have been thinking a little like this too.

In the past four years we have seen as many as a Collingwood fan born in 1954, a Melbourne fan born in 1958, a Geelong fan born in 1964, a South Melbourne/Sydney fan born in 1919. Not even worth mentioning some clubs.

It also means that since winning our first flag 100 years ago no other side has won more than us. Carlton had five before we won our first, Essendon four and Collingwood five.

Yeah same for me. Small celebration inside - seen this story one too many times before. Just broke Geelong's spirit.

Thought we could win when Dusty kicked his first late in the second quarter.
Thought we should win when Dion kicked his second at the start of the last.
Knew we would win when Jack kicked his second with two minutes to go.

Jack's bomb from 50 on the boundary was the sealer. What a kick. That got me jumping up and down spilling quality lager all over the room ! Lol

At times during the year he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from 35 out but it just goes to show you never lose your talent, maybe just your ability to do it week in, week out.

When I switched off the tv half way through the 2nd quarter (old 90s - 2000s scars still there), and then later saw we were only 15 points down half time. Needless to say I watched the remainder thereafter.

Dusty’s last goal,I let my hair out.

But when we hit the front early, you could see we had em by the body language,Geelong started to tire.
Their heads went down when we hit the front, porkins looked to the sky, with an oh **** look

It was more of a slow realisation for me rather than one single moment. I was being overly pessimistic but I genuinely thought we were gone at half time. Just because of the way the game looked.

When Prestia kicked the first of Q4 I probably knew in my gut we had it but didn't allow my head to relax until Lynch kicked the one in the square.

Watching the replay I realised I should have known earlier, the signs were there early but I was blinded by nervousness.

Seriously though, at halftime i sent a text to a mate saying this feels like the 2019 prelim, we kick the first 2 goals of the third and you could tell we were on top and the mental scars of that prelim were starting to filter through the geelong players heads.

Jacks goal in the last was the official confirmation though and even if he kicked it out on the full it was over because he ate up the clock with us 18 pts up.

When Dusty kicked that goal just before half time!

You could just see the hunger in his eyes and him willing the rest of the team to lift with his celebration!

My nerves stopped at that point...took a while for my head to catch up, but got that feeling in my gut!

I'm with you on this one, this was the definite turning point. I remember thinking at half time that they had thrown everything at us and it was not enough. We were there waiting to pounce.

The Shai Bolton lace out to Lynch in the goal square for me.
