Can't believe how harshly some are marking Sanders.

He did lay 7 tackles (no Dog laid more) and 16 possessions is not horrible production playing predominantly in the graveyard

For a kid playing in front of comfortably the biggest crowd he's ever confronted at game 16, he's working his butt off and going ok in an unfamiliar role

And he gets so much negativity from supporters. Amazes me.

What I find perplexing is he was universally a top 5 pick

Then that gets franked quickly when Bevo says he’s the most afl ready kid he has seen

Then match day he’s average.

So is he showing something different at training we aren’t seeing?

There's very little willingness to take the tackler on both with attempting to burst through or side stepping opponents. He doesn't really understand how to create space at the moment. It's probably why he looks so good in these pre season/training games where there's less intensity, less bodies crashing in and would have a lot more time to dispose of the ball where he doesn't really need to create space.

Not worried just yet. Has time to develop this and is very dedicated. Still encouraging hearing he is BOG in some of these pre season games.

He has been terrible in both games in the first half and improved in the second half in both games. He gets plenty of opportunity on ball but his lack of speed is a real concern. He is a long way behind Freijah and has a couple weeks to lift his game before we get back ADZ and The Bont if he cannot he will need to go back to the twos.

i think people have a right to be dissapointed in Sanders so far, given what we gave for him. However:

1. people forget Sanders racked up some big numbers in praccy games before season one, natural ball winner.
21,22,24 posessions early last year in consecutive games, averaging 10 handballs a game, second of all rising stars

2. he's been solid in close, putting his body in and laying tackles.

3. very neat kick. showed against north that he can kick clutch goals and also kick a ball a fair way (that goal from 45 cleared the line easy)

4. by all accounts a great kid and working hard

clearly working on some defensive and positioning aspects, and lacking some confidence at the level. not saying he'll be a star but super confident he makes a good player, a Prestia type (tough accumulator with a little bit of class as well)

Very expensive yearling. Could get to listed level but doesn't look competitive in group company at this stage. May come on as an autumn 3yr old🤞

Freijah bought for a song out of Book 2 at Karaka and already competitive at WFA. I just hope they don't have any plans to geld him.

Just as long as we don't resort to the gelding discussion for Ryley😳

Daicos had 39 but can confidently say he didn’t really hurt us.
Did you watch the game at all?

We have a thread for when other teams' supporters say the Darndest Things. If the Collingwood board has something similar then I reckon you just got a mention.

If Daicos hadn't played that game we would have won it comfortably.

That isn’t what I said. I’m saying he had it 39 times but a lot of the ball he got was in neutral territory. Trying to tag him and ‘limiting’ him to say 29 touches wasn’t going to change anything.

Sheesh. Here's the entirety of what you said:

How else are we meant to read it?
If you meant something else, fine. But it's better to actually say it.

Daicos will likely get the 3 Brownlow votes, and might get 10 AFLCA votes too. He definitely hurt us.

The issue with the Jamarra situation is that because no one has any idea what’s going on internally, the fans have now started to turn on him (rightly or wrongly).

That adds an additional layer of complexity for the club to deal with. The sentiment amongst the public appears to be changing.

The game used to be where is this bloke now it seems it where is Jamarra. I guess they both wear red, white and blue.

It’s not the fault of Sanders that he’s not living up to your expectations of him.

Nor is it his fault what draft pick he was chosen at.

I’m confident that if he was at a club with not as much midfield talent as us he would have showed a lot more.

Have some patience.

I think I'm doing a poor job trying to get my point across. Totally agree he'll be in all the votes, I just think in terms of A grade Daicos games it wasn't his absolute peak, so us not tagging him really didn't make a difference in the end (we don't tag anyway).

SEN saying best guess for Bont's return is round 7. WTF is going on with our medical department if true that is a 9 to10 week injury for a player with no history of injury.
Calf injuries are the trickiest of all the soft tissues, I'm not surprised the timelines keep getting moved around.

Sorry but if this story is true he’s got to go end of the year. Completely unacceptable.

If this is true and most probably is because people must have seen him at the rugby and basketball, and to then be posting on social media when the big celebration game was on is a massive worry for everyone at the club. The club can’t force him to do anything but the fact he is earning hundreds of thousands of dollars is galling to teammates and fans. Bevo and all the coaches and welfare officers and all the players would be doing everything possible.
We can only hope he has a mature mentor that he will listen to and get out of Melbourne asap. Anywhere in Australia would be better than Melbourne right now. But ultimately it will be up to him to turn his life around. He doesn’t have to be a professional footballer, he can go and do an apprenticeship in Warrnambool or similar and live a low key life like the rest of us do. It’s up to you Jamarra.

It really does seem like he has checked out and basically just taking the cash. It appears he is as good as gone by seasons end.

I think we've all tried and hope in good faith to stick with him, but he is just shitting in our face now.

I’ve put a line right through him.

No individual is bigger than the club. We appear to be doing everything we can to throw our arms around the kid but it is starting to reek of Bailey Smith circa 2024 - what’s next, going overseas with our ‘blessing’?

IMHO he’s as good as gone at seasons end, regardless of what Bains has to say on it.

It’s just a distraction we could do without but as I said on another thread, the circus will roll on for a while yet.

6 weeks was never the timeline. The wording was always 'at least' 6 weeks and it was very clear from the language that the club used that this was your standard 3 week calf injury.

People just clung onto '6 weeks' and assumed that was it. The latest injury report has him at 4-6 weeks.

Interesting defence of the club. They do this with every single player.

You think Jones is a week or 2 away?

Psych, it's probably 8

There's some criticism valid around someone like the perennially injured JJ but they've been very clear with this injury.

Point to me where the club has ever said it would be a flat 6 week injury? The timeline was always at least 6 weeks.
