What to take out of the game?

Lack of quality big backs that can kick the ball accurately is a concern...

Seems to be a perennial problem at tigerland...gaspar, kelleways, rance...

Mcguane with his hot handballs...if i ever want to end up in hospital...now i know how to do it...recieve a handball from mcguane...

While they have their moments nahas and edwards just seem to be buffeted away by bigger bodies...

Farmer?!?...miller is a dud...grigg never imposes himself on the contest...

Houli tries but is at best a fringe player and is certainly not a HBF...gourdis did not impress...hislop tried...

Brown won his fair share at the centre bounces but his taps were either poorly directed or our players were not reading him at all...

Throw in some poor decision making while under pressure...

As well as some questionable umpiring decisions...which made it so much harder for ourselves...

Thank god for young TV...a shining light...

Guess its all about development for the rest of the year...which translates as a euphemism for more pain at tigerland...

At least we didnt cave in completely today...:thumbsu:...

geez i keep reading about how good vickery was today and it has me scratching my head.

yes he did some nice things even took a couple of strong contested marks, which is something ive complained about.
id say what he did he did well but i would also say apart from those few things he did well he was non existant.
we have a similar problem with jack if hes not taking marks and kicking goals we are getting little out of him.
we need one of these blokes to be more involved providing more of an option getting more of it and doing all the little things you want your big men to do, the work rate needs to go up heaps from both of them and they both need to play more team oriented footy.

yep tyrone may have kicked a few and clunked a few marks but he was almost invisible apart from that.
i mit be a little harsh on him i will have another look at the game tomorrow but this is the impression i have got having watched it the once.

Oh for christ sake would you just shut up sometimes, you have to complain about EVERYTHING!!!
Vickery was the one player Dimma said won their position today
He's a 21 year old 200cm ruck/forward with only 36 games under his belt and he's on track to kick over 40 goals in only his 3rd season and he kicked 3 goals today in a losing side yet you still want to critisise him for not doing enough. He shouldn't be expected to do more as he is already exceeding expectations for a kid of his age and experience, you shouldn't be demanding performances from him that senior player is expected to do.

Hell, even Wayne Carey in his 3rd year only averaged 13 disposals, 6 marks and 2 goals per game. Vickery has 11 disposals, 4 marks and 2 goals per game playing much deeper forward and rotating into the ruck.

What is the bet that after we win a grand final your first post is suggesting the players that get delisted that year?

What can we take from this game? A much needed reality check and that is about it.

Can't make a call on any players on the basis of this game... otherwise I'd have to highlight Deledio, Cotchin and Newman who had some shocking turnovers. Everyone was below par.

More quality observations from santa.

Damien Hardwick "When you go through our list of players, I thought we had probably one winner, Ty Vickery, on the day"

We got smashed in the midfield. Martin/Deledio/Cotch ... did not work well together, in the third quarter they kept them in there for ages while Melbourne constantly rotated and they were running the ball out of the midfield with ease.

But I suppose Hardwick will stick with the stupid theory that Tuck would only harm the development of the youngsters.

McGuane is a liability, handballs the ball to team mates under pressure all the time! fumbles the ball and calls for the ball in terrible positions.

WHY do our players constantly call for the ball in terrible positions and why are our good ball users handballing it to average ball users only for them to shank the kick. Houli and Deledio handball it to spuds like McGuane far to often and majority of the time McGuane shanks the kick.

while the umpiring was shocking im not going to blame that.

we had our chance to capatilise on the boar din the first quarter. melb had thier chance in the 3rd. it evens out so im not gonna listen to that bs.

I think we had 18 turnovers in thier 50 which they scored 8 goals from. That is first and foremost where we lost the game. Alot of fumbles today, go look at the dees inside 50 tackle count, they smashed us. Our defenders were OK considering they also had 63 inside 50's

fix up the decision making, poor skill errors, and defend the man with the ball and it will go a long way to us improving as a side.

EDIT: also I thought I read somewhere that next year is when dimma implements our defensive gameplan??
